Harlequin romance novels are getting a new lease of life in audio form.
The company has struck a deal with podcast company Audio Up, which is behind Stephen King’s Strawberry Spring, to adapt a number of its books into audio series.
Harlequin is the company responsible for the books behind series such as Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River. The plan is to turn 52 books into podcasts.
First up is Montana Mavericks, a scripted dramatic podcast based on In Search of the Long-Lost Maverick, written by Christine Rimmer.
The series is set in Bronco Heights with its small-town charm and Western allure, where Melanie Driscoll, seeking a fresh start, returns home from the big city into the waiting arms of Gabe Abernathy, a rugged cowboy from the town’s most powerful family with secrets of his own.
It will also have an original soundtrack from a number of rising stars...

Since this is a day ending in “Y” that means it’s time for another Bruce Willis movie to arrive, this time it’s A Day to Die. I may have used that line before, but he’s putting out so many films I’m running out of ways to introduce them.
A Day to Die opens in the middle of a hostage situation. A special security team that includes Connor and Mason is called in to deal with a hostage situation at a school that involves what appears to be some well-armed militia types. It all goes very badly due to the police somehow not noticing several guys with RPGs on nearby rooftops. It also didn’t help that the attackers had a landmine that not only...

"We got the element of surprise... and we got violence." Vertical has released an official trailer for a generic action thriller titled A Day to Die, yet another boring new Bruce Willis movie to ignore. Even the title is generic and forgettable. After killing a drug syndicate member while protecting a parolee, Connor Connolly has one day to pay two million dollars in reparations he doesn't have to Tyrone Pettis. He is forced to ask his old military ops crew, led by Brice Mason, to come together and somehow get two million dollars before Connor loses everyone he loves. Bruce Willis co-stars with Kevin Dillon, Frank Grillo, Leon, Gianni Capaldi, Johnny Messner, Vernon Davis, and Brooke Butler. Not a bad cast, but nah... These dime-a-dozen Bruce Willis movies are as bad as they've ever been, and I really hope no one is wasting their money on them. Just stay away.

What is fame worth? When you’re a starry-eyed kid, it’s easy to persuade yourself that you’d do anything for a shot at the big time. It’s hardly a revelatory to an adult audience that there are unscrupulous adults ready to take advantage of that, but we talk about it now in a way that we didn’t in the early Nineties. That’s when Famous is set, bringing together elements of real life stories in the tale of Jason Mast (Josh Pafchek), a successful young actor who has had to pay an awful price and is looking for a solution.
The story takes place during a party one night at Jason’s house, attended by various industry figures. There’s Heather (Brooke Butler), a successful but still not very well established actress whose agent (Rosie De Candia) wants her and Jason to become, or at least look like,...

It’s a classic horror film where Layla, a recent college graduate, heads back to her hometown, where she reunites with her high school best friends at a hole-in-the-wall bar. They instantly connect like they used to be back in their high school days and decide to visit a place they used to go drink beers at occasionally,...

"What are you still doing here? There's nothing left but a pack of wolves." Indican has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Fox Hunter, the latest from filmmaker Patrick Shanahan. This has gone under a few other titles including The Hounds of Dixie and Cotton, but will be released with this final title. It's about a Southern family of blue-blood media moguls that falls apart "at the crossroads of past and progress in matters of death, wealth, love and American journalism." The comedy stars Reece Thompson, Madison Iseman, Beth Broderick, Brooke Butler, Olivia Grace Applegate, Benjie Anderson, Frieda Jane, Ira David Wood III, Michael Rupnow, and John Lescault. This looks a lot like Knives Out, but without a murder mystery, instead with way more quirky satire. And a bit of a Wes Anderson vibe. Read More: Screen Media Films Picks Up Fantastic Fest Hit 'Darling' Monarch Home Entertainment has picked up the creature horror film "The Sand" for domestic release on October 13, just in time for Halloween. An homage to classic 80's B-horror films like "Tremors," "The Sand" follows a group of hungover young adults who awake to a beating sun and a seemingly carnivorous beach that devours anything with a heartbeat that touches the sand. Mitchel Musso, Jamie Kennedy and Brooke Butler star. "This movie was an intentional effort to take a beloved and niche genre, and elevate the story above contemporary expectations," says producer Gato Scatena. "We're proud of this one. It's in the classic creature-feature wrapping paper, but contains above-average character arcs formulated by the writers [Alex Greenfield & Ben Powell], and tailored execution by our director and Dp [Issac Gabaeff and Matt Wise respectively]." After an all-night graduation beach party, a group of hung-over students wake up under blazing sun to find their numbers somewhat depleted. An enormous alien creature has burrowed down deep and anyone foolish enough to make contact with the sand finds themselves at the mercy of a sea of flesh-eating tentacles.
Can you say Blood Beach?
Ok so maybe that’s not fair. After all Jeffrey Bloom’s 1980 fear-flick, despite having a similar premise – something eating people on the beach, dragging them under the sand – is world’s apart from the gory body-horror of Isaac Gabaeff’s film. Whereas that film often played for oddball humour both intentionally and unintentionally, The Sand plays things very straight.

Tagline: "This beach is killer." The b-movie madness continues with The Sand. This killer beach movie, involves a strange marine organism and it has a thirst for human flesh. The body count piles high in the film's first trailer. And, The Sand stars: Jamie Kennedy (Scream), Brooke Butler (All Cheerleaders Die), Cleo Berry (Zombie Apocalypse) and Nikki Leigh. As well, The Sand debuts, on DVD, in late October. In the film's trailer, a beach party turns into a bloodbath. Keg stands and bikinis are swapped for screams and amputations. You see, a new organism is inhabiting a sunny beach and no one gets to put on sunscreen, without the threat of a skin-removing rash. As well, the film will be shown at London's Film4Frightfest. The film festival begins in late August and dozens and dozens of horror films will be shown here. More on the release of The Sand is hosted below.

As well, The Sand stars Jamie Kennedy (Buddy Hutchins), Brooke Butler (All Cheerleaders Die) Nikki Leigh, and Mitchel Musso. Early artwork for the feature is hosted here. It's not a horror film itself, but a case could be made that the blood shed in Heathers flows as freely through the genre today as does that of the Dead trilogy or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's certainly splattered all over All Cheerleaders Die, a vision of the high school pecking order as bitter as the 1989 pre-Columbine bloodbath, but significantly less witty or humane. All cheerleaders may die, but they don't all leave much behind when they go.
After watching her friend Alexis (Felisha Cooper) killed in a cheerleading stunt gone wrong, Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) tries out for the squad when the new school year begins-and to the surprise of all involved, makes it on. She quickly befriends Tracy (Brooke Butler), who has already started dating Alexis’s old boyfriend team captain Terry (Tom Williamson), much to the chagrin of Maddy’s old girlfriend Leena (Sianoa Smit-McPhee). Don't want to be subjected to a venomous haunting? Then you may not want to move into an old Victorian mansion. Then again, we like when you do silly things like that. It makes us smile from ear-to-ear.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that All Cheerleaders Die star Brooke Butler (pictured) has signed on to get all screamy alongside Todd Lowe (“True Blood”) and Ashley Crow (“Heroes”) in the new film The Remains, written and directed by Thomas Della Bella.
Production begins this fall.

Though it admittedly takes some research to wrap your head around exactly what it is, the recently launched platform TentSquare is one hell of a cool idea, essentially allowing fans to be directly involved in every single aspect of a film's production.
While crowd-funding services like Kickstarter are all about money, TentSquare is more about creativity, putting things like screenplay development and casting into the hands of members. It's pretty damn revolutionary and an exciting glimpse into the potential future of filmmaking.
The reason I bring TentSquare up is because the fan-powered platform was used to build the short horror film While You Were in a Coma, which has just officially entered production. For the past few months members have hand selected the writers, director, lead actor, and cinematographer of the short; and it's now ready to get rolling.

Lucky McKee is a director I have been familiar with since I saw his 2002 film, May, starring horror mainstay Angela Bettis. McKee went on to direct an excellent episode of the short-lived Masters of Horror television show entitled “Sick Girl”, again starring Bettis. It was, however, McKee’s 2011 film, The Woman, that truly hit me between the eyes and sold me on Lucky as a director. A dark, grotesque, macabre film that dealt with female power and the role of the abuser, The Woman cemented McKee as a horror director to watch, which leads us to this review…

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge…and Zombies?
Based soley on the title of Lucky McKee’s (May, The Woods) All Cheerleaders Die, I had a kind of preternatural premonition that I would be enjoyin’ this one. Hell, based on that title, I can’t believe ol’ Lucky himself didn’t call yours cruelly and have him introduce the film like some sort of sexy William Castle (which totally could have happened if I was available, but of course my duties to the House that Fearsome Forry built have kept me too busy to make cameos).
So was my uncanny ability to completely judge whether I’ll like a movie or not based solely on its title still the stuff of legend,...

Lucky Mckee has had his ups and downs with various projects from the criminally underseen The Woods to the success of films like The Woman. With his latest, All Cheerleaders Die, Mckee collaborated with his old college buddy Chris Sivertson to relive their college days by fleshing out a short film to a full feature film filled with cheerful mayhem.
Here’s what Mckee had to say about the film, which is now available on VOD with a Blu-ray/DVD release on July .
Dread Central: Did your success working with Jack Ketchum lean you towards collaborating again this time around with Chris? What advantages do you find in that kind of mutual relationship?
Lucky McKee: Film is, in its essence, a collaborative art. It's a blast to create stories with good brains. Chris and I have collaborated like this since we were teenagers so it's pretty natural at this point.

Co-director and writer Chris Sivertson took the time to speak with us recently regarding his collaboration with longtime friend and cohort Lucky Mckee for their new film All Cheerleaders Die, which enjoyed its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Dread Central:Can you talk a little about how long the idea for All Cheerleaders Die has been rolling around in both of your heads? Did it just arise from a late night wandering around the USC campus?
Chris Sivertson: We came up with the idea about a year out of film school at USC. We'd been reading indie magazines, seeing how filmmakers were picking up the first Dv cameras and making b-movies for very little money. We watched a bunch of those films and decided that it would be a great format to shoot our first feature. Low cost, low risk, freedom to experiment. So we cooked up a simple idea: football players vs.
What do Cecil B. De Mille, Alfred Hitchcock, Michael Mann, and Michael Haneke have in common? They all remade movies they had themselves previously directed. Filmmakers Lucky McKee (May, The Woman) and Chris Sivertson (I Know Who Killed Me) can now claim membership of this small but illustrious group thanks to their new collaboration All Cheerleaders Die, a remake of the pair’s 2001 horror movie.
Released to cinemas tomorrow (and also available on VOD) the revamped All Cheerleaders Die stars Caitlin Stasey, Brooke Butler, Amanda Grace Cooper, and Reanin Johannink as a quartet of cheerleaders who die in a car...

Sapphic Sillies: Sivertson & McKee’s Latest Lacks Spirit
Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson, old college friends and now notably notorious film directors (though for different reasons) have paired up to share directorial and screenwriting credit for their new film, All Cheerleaders Die, a film which happily delivers content that matches its over-the-top title. Originally, this was a short film of the duo’s from 2001, now developed for feature length, though one gets the sense that there’s not quite enough material to justify the expansion. Sadly, this is hardly on par with McKee’s other perversely enjoyable horror films, such as the exceptional May (2002) or the gritty schlock of The Woman (2011). The good news is, it’s definitely better than Sivertson’s infamous 2007 film, I Know Who Killed Me (2007).
Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) is a rebellious outsider at high school, certainly not involved with the popular girls, but certainly not a social outcast either.
