The first concept art for HBO’s upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel series, “House of the Dragon,” was revealed by WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar Thursday, giving fans their first look at the fire-breathing stars of the show.
The images, which you can see below, were shared by Kilar at the very end of a blog post announcing all of Warner Bros. 2021 films will debut in theaters and on streaming service HBO Max simultaneously.
“Principal photography starts on the next Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon, in a few months,” Kilar wrote. “Look out for dragons overhead!”
HBO’s “House of the Dragon” will be filmed primarily in England rather than Northern Ireland, the location that the original series famously used for the majority of its eight-season run.

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with your traditional black and white handcrafted wooden chess set. If you’re going to be geeky about a new thing, however, you might as well bring some of your older geeky interests to it as well. Here are some of the best geeky chess sets we could find.

On Game of Thrones, Kit Harington played the lonely, taciturn and somber Jon Snow, whose status as a bastard child within the Stark household informed his aloof personality. In next year’s McU film Eternals, he’s set to play the Black Knight, and a broody name like that might make you assume he’ll be a similarly gloomy hero. Well, a new interview with the actor hints that this may not be the case.
Speaking with The Telegraph, Harington revealed that his parents raised him in what he describes as a “gender-fluid” environment, saying:
“I idolised my mum. I followed her around the house. It was because of her that I wanted to be an actor. She used to take us to the theatre at least twice a week. I asked for a Mighty Max and she bought me a Polly Pocket. I asked for an Action Man and...

Can we really call Jon Snow the hero? It’s an odd question, I get it, and it’s likely that people might want to argue over it for hours on end. But with Kit Harington stating that he’s done playing the silent hero that’s tortured by having to do the right thing, it’s time to examine just what Jon Snow did in Game of Thrones that makes him heroic, and those times that make it feel as though he was simply a tortured man that had no idea which way to turn until there was no other choice open to him.

This article contains spoilers for George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series.
For readers of George R.R. Martin’s book series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” it was the gasping disappointment heard around the internet. During the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale, Arya Stark makes the fateful decision to leave Westeros behind and pursue a potential new life in Braavos, and Ramin Djawadi’s music swelled as her ship disappeared into the great horizon. Then… credits. To those who never read the book it was bittersweet poignancy; for book readers though, the immediate question is where is Lady Stoneheart?!
The grim moniker, which was given to Catelyn Stark’s reanimated corpse, first appeared in print during the infamous epilogue of A Storm of Swords—the book that served as the primary basis for the third and fourth seasons of HBO’s television series.

Catelyn Stark (played by Michelle Fairley) was famously killed off at the Red Wedding in Season 3 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” just as the character was in George R.R. Martin’s novels. And on the now-concluded show, that is where her story ended — but that’s not the case in the books.
In Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series — which still has two more upcoming books, “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring,” before it concludes — Catelyn is resurrected as the vengeful Lady Stoneheart, a fan-favorite character.
So why did Lady Stoneheart never make it into “Game of Thrones”? According to interviews with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss included in James Hibberd’s upcoming book, “Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon,” there is a threefold explanation.

Anyone who watches television will remember when the controversial final season of Game Of Thrones dropped in 2019. Not only did it let down a good portion of the fanbase, but it seems that the last batch of episodes also caused Jon Snow actor Kit Harington a great deal of stress, to the point that he was considering quitting acting altogether.
The cast, as well as the crew, put loads of work into making the final season enjoyable, but the public response was less than stellar. While the rest of the seasons received at least a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, Game Of Thrones’ final outing earned a 55%, which marks a low for the popular fantasy series.
Jon Snow was undoubtedly a highlight of the show’s run, though, with many applauding Harington for his performance as the fan favorite character. That being said, this didn’t stop him from feeling the weight...

Kit Harington is no longer interested in playing characters that resemble Jon Snow, the “Game of Thrones” hero he portrayed for eight years on HBO’s blockbuster fantasy series. During an interview with The Telegraph (via Insider), Harington said roles like heroic Jon Snow and the masculinity the character represents no longer need to be put out into the world.
“I feel that emotionally men have a problem, a blockage, and that blockage has come from the Second World War, passed down from grandfather to father to son,” Harington said. “We do not speak about how we feel because it shows weakness, because it is not masculine. Having portrayed a man who was silent, who was heroic, I feel going forward that is a role I don’t want to play any more. It is not a masculine role that the world needs to see much more of.”

The show may have drawn to a close with a reputation as an all-time great well ensured, but the postmortem on Game of Thrones nonetheless looks set to continue for a while yet. Some fans still haven’t gotten over the disappointing conclusion to the eighth and final season, with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss facing accusations that they failed to come up with any good ideas of their own once they ran out of source material to adapt.
The backlash from a loyal and passionate fanbase reportedly played a huge part in the duo walking away from developing a Star Wars trilogy before the ink had even dried on their contract, with Benioff and Weiss unwilling to remain under such intense scrutiny from the diehards. A petition was even launched in an effort to remake the final season, something that was laughed off by several of the stars but embraced by others,...

It’s been over a year since the finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Here are five things we learned about the show since then.
“It’s been more than a year since Game of Thrones fans tuned in to the series’s finale—concluding both the eighth season of the HBO epic and the overall saga conceived by author George R.R. Martin. The final season, and the last episode in particular, answered many burning fan questions—including the fate of characters like Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage)—and finally named a new ruler of Westeros.”

Taghi Amirani’s gripping film about the move against Iran’s prime minister highlights an inglorious chapter of history
This powerful and authoritative documentary by the Iranian film-maker Taghi Amirani is as gripping as any thriller. Coup 53 is about a vitally important historical event and horribly inglorious chapter in the postwar UK and US: the story of how, in 1953, Britain and the US teamed up to unseat the Iranian prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh – who had nationalised British oil interests – and replace him with the skittish, preening and very biddable Shah of Iran. This cataclysmic meddling was the Book of Genesis in the bible of dirty tricks.
The coup emboldened the British to try the same in Egypt against Gamal Abdel Nasser over the Suez canal, and their humiliation there taught them that this sort of thing could not be attempted without a green light from the real imperial power: the US.

The final season of Game of Thrones, as the most-watched TV show in the world, was highly anticipated. But now, more than a year later, it stands as one of the most divisive conclusions in the history of fiction.
After seven seasons and many years of narrative buildup, the White Walkers were finally marching towards the Seven Kingdoms. Daenerys Stormborn had come to Westeros at last, clashing with the Lannister royalty. And more importantly, the show finally unveiled the truth about Jon Snow; the fact that he was actually the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. What’s more, many other side characters finally reached the pinnacle of their arc. The stage was set for Game of Thrones to hit the home run and fulfill its destiny as the greatest TV show of all time.
And then came the shortened eighth season.

It's incredible to think that just a few years ago, we didn't know the Pearson family.
In just four seasons of This Is Us, the Big 3 has burrowed their way into our hearts in a way that only a handful of TV families have managed to do.
From the stunning pilot episode to the heartbreaking fight between brothers during This Is Us Season 4 finale, we've found our selves wanting to hug the Pearson clan.
We also, occasionally, want to strangle them, too.
So while we wait for This Is Us Season 5, my fellow TV Fanatics, Jack Ori, Berea Orange, Sarah Little, Whitney Evans, Jasmine P., Lizzy Buczak, Jessica Lerner, and I have gotten together to kibitz, complain and debate all things Pearson.
Christine: So let's dive in and ask who was your favorite character at the beginning of the series, and has that changed?

Stephen Colbert highlighted the worrying testimony of ousted public health official Rick Bright — and President Donald Trump’s attempts to drag the spotlight away from his depiction of how the government has handled the Covid-19 crisis — on The Late Show Thursday.

Game of Thrones alum Kristopher Hivju had recently joined the cast of The Witcher to play a role in the second season of the fantasy show, but unfortunately, he and his wife both tested positive for the Covid-19 and quarantined themselves at home to fight the disease.
We all know Hivju for portraying Jon Snow’s biggest brother-in-arms, Tormund Giantsbane. But the actor recently found a new fantasy home in the upcoming chapter of Netflix’s The Witcher. He’s set to appear as Nivellen, a cursed man who turns into a monster and kills people without really intending to. While we don’t have any more details on his role as of now, we’re glad to see that former Game of Thrones cast members are doing well for themselves even after HBO’s show came to an end last year.

Game of Thrones’ divisive series finale is nearly a year old now, having premiered—ten months ago to the day—on May 19, 2019. As sobering as that may be in a “time flies” kind of way, it has allowed everyone to objectively reflect on things. Indeed, now that the smoke and ash has cleared from our proverbial King’s Landing, star Emilia Clarke—whose character, Daenerys Targaryen, underwent a rapidly radical trajectory turn—is admitting her disappointment in not only her character’s fate, but the final season’s overall approach.
While more definitive judgments on HBO’s Game of Thrones will likely be left to posterity, it has been long enough for Clarke—now free from the show’s publicity process—to offer her feelings about the finale in a recent interview for Sunday’s edition of U.K. paper The Times, brandishing the candor befitting of the Mother of Dragons…...

The wildly controversial “Game of Thrones” series finale will be celebrating its one-year anniversary in two months, and with some distance comes some brutal honesty from cast member Emilia Clarke. The Emmy nominee played Daenerys Targaryen throughout the show’s eight-season run and says in a recent interview with The Sunday Times that the HBO drama’s series finale left her annoyed. “Thrones” ended with Daenerys becoming the primary antagonist of the series. The character dies after being stabbed by Jon Snow. Clarke tells The Times, “Yeah, I felt for her. I really felt for her. And yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn’t have to deal with something? He got away with murder — literally.”
“I knew how I felt [about the ending] when I first read it, and I tried, at every turn, not to consider too much what other people might say,” Clarke continued, “But I did always consider...

Game of Thrones and The Witcher star Kristofer Hivju has become the latest actor to be diagnosed with Coronavirus.
Hivju struck a chord with Thrones fans for his memorable portrayal of Tormund Giantsbane, a proud member of the Free Folk who became a loyal friend to Jon Snow towards the show’s grand finale. Alas, the actor took to Instagram to share an update from Norway, where he confirmed that he’s now tested positive for Covid-19, and has entered self-isolation with his family.
Hivju joins a list of big name actors spanning Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, and McU alumni Idris Elba, who announced his diagnosis via Instagram earlier today. Each PSA follows a similar – but no less meaningful – template and draws a stark red line under the severity of the situation.
Here’s what Hivju had to say:

HBO has ended its more than 10 year tenancy with Titanic Studios, the Belfast, Ireland studio where multiple seasons of “Game of Thrones,” as well as the now-scrapped Naomi Watts-led prequel pilot, were filmed, a spokesperson for the premium cable channel told TheWrap Tuesday.
After the Dan Weiss and David Benioff-created series ended last year and the scrapped prequel pilot finished shooting, there was still an effective agreement between HBO and Titanic Studios that the location would remain vacant until a letter of notification was issued by the pay TV channel to Titanic Quarter, Northern Ireland Screen and others associated with Titanic Studios saying it no longer needed the studio. That letter has now been issued.
It is currently unclear where “GoT” spinoff series “House of the Dragon,” which was ordered straight to series by HBO in October and is currently in pre-production, will be shot, as the pay...

Listen, we all knew Hopper was alive. Try as they might to turn “Stranger Things'” latest ending into a cliffhanger, the Duffer Bros. tipped their hand regarding the gruff but lovable sheriff played by David Harbour. I mean, come on. The circumstances of his death were way too suspicious — No shot of the sheriff getting zapped? No body? Please. But if those context clues weren’t enough to quell fans’ tears, the finale’s mid-credits sequence referencing “the American” made sure viewers held out hope for their hero’s return.
And now it’s come. No, Netflix didn’t surprise drop “Stranger Things 4” (can you imagine?), but the streaming giant did unveil a new teaser trailer with one clear purpose: to confirm Jim Hopper’s still alive and kicking.
While “alive and hammering” would be more accurate, we’ll leave the question of what Hopper is doing in Russia up to the detectives out there.

2019 was a pretty rough year for television queens across the board.
Queen Daenerys became one of the most hated characters in TV history, Queen Elizabeth showed up far too late at the Aberfan disaster and Queen Calanthe threw herself off a tower with her kingdom lying in ruins. But, on the face side of the coin, there were also several queens who found more success in the reigning department.
Without further ado, here is a look back on the year’s TV queens, rated on their, well, queenliness.
Queen Elizabeth II from “The Crown” – 3/5 Crowns
Season 3 of “The Crown” saw Olivia Colman pick up the royal mantle during a time of great turmoil for the British people. To be fair, the crippling economic crisis of the 1960s wasn’t entirely her fault, but she let her people down in a crucial moment after the disaster of Aberfan, failed as a...

For any Daenerys Targaryen stans still reeling over that controversial Game of Thrones series finale, it looks like the Mother of Dragons' fate was foreshadowed long before Jon Snow showed up with a knife. In an interview with TV Guide, Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that Daenerys's white fur coat in the season eight premiere was a huge hint at her transformation into the Mad Queen. More than a few Reddit users caught onto the significance of Daenerys's wardrobe while the series was still on air, and we should have known our Khaleesi was going to lose control all along.
"When she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy."

Into the absence left by “Game of Thrones” strides “The Witcher,” perhaps the most credible of several recent attempts to capture its predecessor’s robust claim on audience affections. Like “Thrones,” “The Witcher” is based on an existing series of novels; “The Witcher” also boasts richly expensive visuals and an expansive-seeming world, at least in its first five hours.
What it lacks, though, is tonal consistency. This is a show with moments of drama and of gruesome violence cut through with a glancing humor that too often feels tossed-off and out-of-place in the world the show has created. The show’s dramatic sensibility is intense and indulgent, crafting action sequences whose length bulks out episodes past hourlong running times. Its comic sensibility is puerile and a bit sarcastic. Indeed, Henry Cavill’s “Witcher,” a hunter of supernatural beings, and his frequent scene partner, Joey Batey’s jester and bard Jaskier,...

A controversial episode of Celebrity Big Brother was the most complained about British show of the decade, while Love Island, The X Factor and ITV daytime show Loose Women also make the list from regulator Ofcom.
More than 25,000 people complained about an episode of last year’s Celebrity Big Brother on Viacom’s Channel 5. The complaints were centered around an incident where former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett alleged assault by fellow housemate Ryan Thomas, who starred in Coronation Street.
The second most complained about show of the decade was an episode of daytime talk show Loose Women from 2018. The episode in question featured an argument between presenters Kim Woodburn and Coleen Nolan, with the majority of complaints arguing that there was bullying on the ITV show.

The Northern Realms are about to bear witness to a totally different breed of monster-hunter.
His name? Geralt of Rivia – otherwise known as the White Wolf and the Butcher of Blaviken – whose solitary life comes screeching to a halt when he crosses paths with Princess Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg. Longtime fans of the Witcher series will know those names all too well, and while much has been made about Henry Cavill being cast as Geralt in the soon-to-be-released TV show, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Netflix’s rendition of The Witcher will place a sharp focus on both Ciri and Yennefer, as they navigate an increasingly volatile Continent.
Case in point: this newly-revealed gallery of images for The Witcher (h/t Cbm), which draws attention to the show’s massive ensemble cast… not to mention some of the grotesque beasts about to taste the bite of Geralt’s sword.

Game of Thrones has only been previously nominated at the Golden Globes a total of seven times, including five nominations for best drama series and a supporting actress nod for Lena Headey. Fans had a lot to say about the final season of Game of Thrones, not much of it complementary. Due to the rushed pace caused by having a mere six episodes to cap off a vast and sprawling saga, much of the revelations and occurrences were left open to interpretation. One of those moments that went unexplored was exactly what was going through Jon Snow’s mind when he turned on Daenerys after her rage and contempt led to her immolating King’s Landing.
The season 8 home release provided some insight from Kit Harington, the actor playing Jon, in a making-of documentary about the finale titled Duty is the Death of Love, an inversion of “love is the death of duty” that Maester Aemon told to Jon in season 1 to explain why the Night’s Watch have no wives or family. Game of Thrones might be over and done with in a broadcast sense, but people are going to be talking about its myriad details for some time to come. One question left dangling though – exactly where Drogon was heading with Daenerys’ body – has been answered by the commentary of the final season’s home release.
To recap: after seeing Missandei murdered in an act of pointless spite, Daenerys decided that surrender wasn’t good enough for King’s Landing and proceeded to unleash hell upon the city with her pet weapon of mass destruction, succumbing to the hereditary insanity of the Targaryens brought about by generations of inbreeding.
Upon declaring herself queen she was promptly killed by her consort/nephew Jon Snow since he decided nobody as unstable as her should ever be a ruler, regardless of how much he loved her. Drogon responded by reducing the Iron Throne to a pile of molten slag,...

An alternate ending was filmed ahead of the conclusion of Game of Thrones, according to actor Kristofer Hivju, who played ginger man mountain Tormund Giantsbane.
The finale of the show saw Jon Snow kill Daenerys upon realizing she’d descended into madness, witnessing her dragon-borne rampage immolating King’s Landing and its people. Afterwards, the surviving heads of the great houses declared Bran their king, and we didn’t stick around to see them come to realize what a terrible idea it was to elect as ruler an omniscient immortal who’s devoid of empathy and views life through a prism of nihilistic determinism.
Regarding the different set of events though, Hivju stated that: “We shot an alternative ending that was mostly for fun, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.” He didn’t elaborate any further, not mentioning who was involved or...
