The live shows of “America’s Got Talent” Season 18 begin on Tuesday, August 22 with the first “Qualifiers” round. In this stage of the competition, the acts sent through by the judges during the “Auditions” phase will perform again for a chance to advance to the finals. Of the 55 acts we know advanced to this round, 21 incorporate some form of singing in their overall talent. That’s over a third of the acts still in the competition, leaving us to wonder whether singing acts have a distinct advantage when it comes to the world’s biggest talent show. In terms of winners, it’s been four years since the last singer, Kodi Lee, claimed victory.

One of the most talked-about acts to come out of this year’s “America’s Got Talent” auditions is Putri Ariani, thanks in no small part to Simon Cowell blessing her with his Season 18 Golden Buzzer. All these months later, Simon is reflecting on the 17-year-old blind singer/songwriter’s audition at the piano and he’s expecting big things for her in this competition. “I would be amazed if she’s not either the winner or the runner-up. I mean, that’s who I put my money on,” he reveals in the NBC video above.
Putri came all the way from Indonesia to show the world her talent, and she performed two songs on the big stage: “Loneliness” and “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” “There was something about her, even before she started to sing,” Simon now declares. “I just — I had a feeling. And I’ve done this a long time.

“Last week we lost one of our soldiers, Specialist Elijah Crawford, so we are dedicating this performance to him and all of the soldiers that have passed before him,” declares the group’s spokesman, who noticeably holds back tears. The July 12 episode of “America’s Got Talent” ended on an especially high note with a star-making performance from singer-songwriter Wyn Starks. Before he took the stage, Starks told host Terry Crews, “Fear has stopped me for too long… I have to do this. Before his death, he wrote the song “My Turn,” which the kids decided to sing on the big stage to “honor him” in front of “AGT” judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara (Howie Mandel was out sick).

“America’s Got Talent” is TV’s only competition show that embraces all forms of variety acts, whether you’re a singer, a comedian, a magician or anything in between. Throughout its nearly two decades years on the air, seven singers have claimed victory with the others being a mix of ventriloquists, magicians, etc. (See the “AGT” winners list.) Has NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” found its next singing superstar? Storm Large — yes, that’s her real name — wowed the judges during Tuesday’s third episode of Season 16 by putting a sultry rock ‘n’ roll twist on Frank Sinatra‘s “I Got You Under My Skin.” The 51-year-old musician has been working in the industry for 30 years, but still has yet to become a household name. After previously competing on CBS’s “Rock Star: Supernova,” Storm now calls auditioning for “AGT” an “enormous, terrifying opportunity.” Watch the video above.
Before she began singing, Simon Cowell asked her if they’d ever met before. Storm quickly joked, “We were so young, Simon. Let’s not bring that up.” Hmm, perhaps the judge saw her on “Rock Star: Supernova,” where she came in fifth place, or during her 2006 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”?

This talented tyke from Season 12 has become one of the most viral acts ever, with her original 2017 audition racking up more than 350,000,000 views. In our recent poll asking fans to name their favorite “Agt” winner of all time, Darci Lynne unsurprisingly topped the list at 38%. Only three other champs came in with double-digit support: close-up magician Shin Lim in second place at 18%, singer/ukuleleist Grace VanderWaal in third place at 12% and singer/pianist Kodi Lee in fourth place at 10%.

From singers to dancers to danger acts and everything in between, “America’s Got Talent” is TV’s only competition show that embraces all forms of variety acts. Throughout its 15 years on the air, seven singers have claimed victory with the others being a mix of ventriloquists, magicians, etc. (See the “Agt” winners list.) However, there are five specific variety acts that have yet to win the top prize of $1 million and a headline show in Las Vegas. Can any of these acts make history for “America’s Got Talent” in Season 15?
Comedians
Stand-up comics have come so close to winning over the years, but none have ever claimed the top trophy. Tom Cotter in Season 7, Taylor Williamson in Season 8 and Drew Lynch in Season 10 were all runners-up on their respective years. Can any of the Season 15 comedians pull through in the end? So far we’ve seen Usama Siddiquee give it his all on the stage,...

The “America’s Got Talent” winners list is full of solo singers. In fact, there are seven so far throughout the show’s 15-year run: Bianca Ryan (Season 1), Neal E. Boyd (Season 3), Kevin Skinner (Season 4), Michael Grimm (Season 5), Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. (Season 6), Grace VanderWaal (Season 11) and Kodi Lee (Season 14). However, a singing group has never prevailed … until now? Ahead of Tuesday’s third episode, NBC has released a sneak peek video of Resound, a humble singing trio from Richmond, Virginia (watch above). Do they have what it takes to make “Agt” history?

“Alesha, thank you for that Golden Buzzer,” says the leader of Silhouettes after “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” judge Alesha Dixon anointed them with the confetti shower during Monday’s episode. Kodi, who is both blind and autistic, is the seventh singer to claim the “Agt” championship in the 14-year history of the show. A group variety act has never won “Agt,” although Detroit Youth Choir came tantalizing close this year. Perhaps it was their age that worked against them. With “America’s Got Talent” season 14 underway, it is a good time to go back and check in with all 13 acts to win “Agt” to date. On September 19, magician Shin Lim joined the exclusive club of “America’s Got Talent” winners, with his sleigh-of-hand act. “America’s Got Talent” crowned its 13th winner Wednesday with magician Shin Lim squeaking out a win over the dancers Zurcaroh. Lim is the second sleight-of-hand artist on the winners list after Mat Franco who took the title in Season 9. We had not expected Zurcaroh, who were Tyra Banks‘ Golden Buzzer, to do so well, given that no other dance group had won “Agt” in its 12-year history (solo dancer Kenichi Ebina won Season 8).

“America’s Got Talent” is set to crown its lucky 13th winner on the September 19 results show. The race is too close to call between teen singing sensation Courtney Hadwin and magician Shin Lim. One of them will win the season 13 title, which comes with a $1 million cash prize and a chance to headline at a Las Vegas casino.
Whoever tops the tally of America’s votes will join a winners list of talent that includes last year’s champ Darci Lynne Farmer. This pint-sized singing ventriloquist took time off her nationwide tour to appear on the first live show of this season of “Agt.” She was the the third ventriloquist to win “America’s Got Talent” after Season 2’s Terry Fator, who appeared on the Season 12 finale alongside Farmer, and Season 10’s Paul Zerdin.
Farmer was only 12 when she won the show last September. She was the third tween talent to take the title.

You’d think there’d be a strong correlation on “America’s Got Talent” between which act performs Last during the Finals and who ends up being named the winner, as that act would be freshest in voters’ minds. But amazingly, the opposite is true. Over the course of all 12 seasons of “Agt,” only two acts went on to win the $1 million prize after being given the plum spot in the finale: Season 11’s singer-songwriter/ukuleleist Grace VanderWaal and Season 7’s animal act Olate Dogs. Is there a curse for acts who perform last during the Finals?
VanderWaal and Olate Dogs were heavy favorites heading into the respective finales, so it’s possible producers gave them the final position as a way to boost their visibility. But many acts in other years have also been the frontrunners to win and producers chose not to place them last. Ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer...

Neal Boyd, who died on June 10, won season 3 of “America’s Got Talent” back in 2008.
