Outlander fans were treated to the reunion of the centuries with one of the series’s most exhilarating episodes that had Claire and Jamie Fraser coming face-to-face after 20 years apart. Claire and Jamie may finally have reunited, but they are by no means safe. In the time that she’s been gone from the 18th century, Claire has been safe. She has now returned to a time where a headstrong female physician would at the very least be seen with suspicion, to say nothing of the danger Claire found herself in the last time she came through the stones. That was

If you thought it was a little excessive, for “Outlander” to wait until nearly halfway through the third season to bring together its star-crossed stars, know that showrunner Ronald D. Moore deemed it necessary.
“I was firm on that,” he told IndieWire about denying fans the reunion of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). “I was like, ‘I want them to want it. I’m happy that they’re going a little crazy. Let’s make them earn it, getting them back together.'”
His reasons, though, weren’t based in sadism — instead, the veteran showrunner wanted to stay loyal to the novels he was adapting for the Starz drama. Thus, following Claire’s return to her own time at the end of Season 2, the couple at the center of the Starz drama would spend 20 years living separate lives in their original time periods.

Before this past Sunday’s Outlander, the last time Claire and Jamie Fraser saw each other, they were in their 20s. After roughly two decades apart, they reunited (or at least started to) at the end of Episode 5… looking much like they had on the eve of the Battle of Culloden, despite the intervening years.
And that, star Caitriona Balfe says good-naturedly, is just something viewers of the show are going to have to get on board with.

The only conceivable reaction to the final two minutes of this week’s Outlander was collective held breath. The reunion 200 years in the making has finally arrived, as “Freedom and Whiskey” saw 20th century doctor Claire Randall Fraser finally find her husband Jamie Fraser in the 18th century. Before we get to Jamie and Claire’s ‘reunion of the centuries’, we have to talk about how the reunion came to be, and why it wasn’t an easy decision for Claire to choose to go after Jamie this time around. Luckily, there was someone there to give her the final push. Little

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers through “Outlander” Season 3, Episode 5, titled “Freedom & Whisky.”]
Author Diana Gabaldon has become quite the expert on 18th century Scotland thanks to the research she’s done to write the “Outlander” novels on which the hit Starz series of the same name is based. Since the action takes place over decades, in many different lands, and during times of political unrest, her two main characters have had to take on a number of different names.
On Sunday’s episode, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) has finally returned back to Scotland after spending two decades in the 20th century. She had stayed parted from her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) for so long because she had believed he had died at the Battle of Culloden, but when it’s revealed that he had survived and imprisoned, she begins to wonder if they can reunite. Finally, she finds evidence of a printer named Alexander Malcolm who had printed a phrase that only her Jamie could have known.

Unrequited Love
If the second episode of “Outlander’s” third season was a showcase for Jamie and the important things he’s been through during his separation from Claire, Sunday night’s fifth installment was all about bringing Claire back to the forefront of the conversation by all but ignoring Jamie until the hour’s closing moment. Following Frank’s death, it was hard to feel sympathy for Claire, so this episode also served as a form of redemption. We followed her work and home life following her visit to Scotland and saw what a bleak, Jamie-less future could potentially mean for her, but that outlook didn’t last long when Roger returned with some not-so-shocking news about one A. Malcolm, the Edinburgh printer who wrote of whisky and freedom.

When cast members meet for the first time, sometimes it takes a while for them to warm up to each other, but that wasn't the case for Outlander's Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. The actors, who play love interests Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall in the Starz series, had "instantaneous" chemistry right from the very beginning. "When I first met Sam at our chemistry test, which I always think is quite funny, he was the nicest guy and he just put me at ease," Caitriona told The Wrap back in April 2015. "I was a little nervous and he's just that kind of solid, grounded guy. We had one day in London and we took this big, long walk in Hyde Park, and it was great. We just talked about our lives and sort of about the characters and what we thought and that day I was like, 'This is going to be great.

Sam Heughan is arguably one of the best things about Outlander, and not just because he's extremely good-looking. The 37-year-old actor, who is dating MacKenzie Mauzy, is also extremely talented. That shouldn't come as a surprise, though, given the fact that Sam graduated from Glasgow's Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) in 2003. The native Scot studied the school's BA acting program before breaking into the entertainment industry and eventually landing the lead role of Jamie Fraser on Outlander. Outlander is in the midst of airing season three, but the actors are actually on a break between seasons, including Sam Heughan, who looks like he's feeling free as a bird with a new 'do. Yes, he’s a hot Scot with a crazy popular show, piercing blue eyes and the manners of a prince, but you may not know that Sam Heughan’s repertoire extends far beyond acting and Hollywood heartthrob. In fact, he just added designer to his resume. The 37-year-old star, who plays Jamie Fraser on Starz’ mega-hit Outlander, serves as the global brand ambassador for Barbour. And this fall he made his mark on the label, designing a signature men’s and women’s capsule collection for the brand.

Sam Heughan has gained a mass following for his role as Jamie Fraser, but Outlander isn't the only book franchise he's tied to. The Scottish actor, whose full name is Sam Roland Heughan, was actually named after the Lord of the Rings character Samwise Gamgee. Yes, really. Apparently, his parents are huge fans of the book-to-movie franchise. Not only were they in a band called Gandalf's Garden, but Sam's brother, Cirdan, was also named after the Telerin elf from the franchise. We can't help but wonder if Sam has ever thought of starring in one of the movies.

Although the Outlander TV show dropped in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic in season two, the total audience actually grew by nearly five percent. Because premium cable networks rely on paid subscribers -- rather than ad revenue -- audience growth is more important than a show's demo numbers. Starz was quick to respond to that growth and renewed Outlander through its fourth season, back in June of 2016. Can it build on its success? Will Outlander be cancelled or renewed for more seasons on Starz? Stay tuned. A time travel drama, Outlander, stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser. Say it with me: Droughtlander is over! And boy, did the show’s third season open with a bang. “The Battle Joined” was one of the most heartbreaking, devastating hours of television ever produced, and this is coming from a writer who’s had two months to recover from the initial tragedy when it was previewed at San Diego Comic Con. Unrequited Love
At its heart, Diana Gabaldon’s saga is a tale of romance about how love conquers all: war, continents, and even time travel. Viewers have caught on with their own passionate and often outspoken love for Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall/Fraser. And that makes a third season, marked by the lovers having been separated for nearly two decades, a tricky thing. Rather than picking up where the second season left off — with Claire, her daughter Brianna, and historian Roger tracking down the presumed dead Jamie through the history books — “Outlander” returned to the period just after Jamie and Claire’s separation to dig into some of that lost time. With 20 years to cover, there’s certainly a lot of story to incorporate, but the more writers fall down that rabbit hole the longer they separate the couple people are waiting to see. That makes this season a hard,...
