Birgitt Bender
Elementary school and 1975 Abitur in Düsseldorf. Studied law in Cologne, Geneva and Freiburg, first state examination in 1980, legal clerkship in Berlin, including practical training with a lawyer and local politician in San Francisco, second state examination in 1984.
1984 to 1988 legal advisor, later women's affairs officer for the Green Party in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg. Lectureships at several universities of applied sciences.
Deputy honorary state chairwoman of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Baden-Württemberg (DPWV).
Through her involvement in citizens' initiatives, Third World solidarity work and the women's movement, she joined the Green Party; 1988-2001 member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, 1988-1990 parliamentary group leader (first female parliamentary group leader in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament), 1992-2000 deputy parliamentary group leader.
Member of the Bundestag since 2002.
