On Thursday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the United States’ very first AI music law: the Elvis Act, which amends pre-existing legislation to protect the voices of artists as property rights.
Signed at a ceremony hosted at a honky tonk in Nashville’s famous Broadway district, the Elvis Act was supported by the initiative, The Human Artistry Campaign, and has a number of prominent supporters, including country stars Luke Bryan and Chris Janson (who were both at the signing), Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., a bipartisan coalition of Tennessee lawmakers, and more.
Amending the state’s pre-existing Personal Rights Protection Act of 1984, the law — formally titled the Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security Act of 2024 — basically upgrades an individual’s voice to a property right, like their name, photograph, and likeness. “They all call it puppy love.” Dolly Parton opens this pet-centric two-hour variety special, Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala, singing a new take on her very first single — which she originally recorded in 1959 at age 13 — “Puppy Love.” In addition to the country legend’s performances (you’ll also hear “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You”), expect musical guests like Lainey Wilson and Chris Janson, comedy bits and star-studded special guest appearances by Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell, Neil Patrick Harris, and Parton’s cohost Jane Lynch, among others. Best of all, “there’s going to be dogs all around, everywhere,” says animal lover Parton. And naturally, that includes her French bulldog, Billy. The main event is a canine fashion show, of course, with the pooches in looks from the Doggy Parton product line. “One of the things I’m most excited about is we’re going to re-create...

Savannah Chrisley is all about showing off her skills.
This time, it’s her bartending abilities.
The Growing Up Chrisley star hopped behind the bar to sling some drinks and looked amazing doing it.
Savannah donned a cropped Live Oak t-shirt and Daisy Dukes as she was behind the bar. She showed off her abs, which were toned due to her workout sessions. The Daisy Dukes were frayed at the bottom, which is on brand for the fashionista.
It was a clip from a recent episode of Growing Up Chrisley and Savannah just wanted to show off her cocktail knowledge. The beautiful blonde did just that.
Her bartending skills are there, but so are her days as a pageant girl, as Savannah did her walk and pose while filming the clip.

“I’m trying to get songs on country radio,” says Steve Earle. It’s not what anyone would expect to hear from Earle these days, especially when we’re supposed to be discussing Jerry Jeff, his new tribute album to Seventies Texas legend Jerry Jeff Walker.

When contemporary Nashville artists and songwriters talk about perfect modern country songs, many of them wind up circling around one in particular: the Miranda Lambert-sung “The House That Built Me.” The co-writer of that and other classics over the last few decades, Tom Douglas, is the narrator and subject of a film, “Love, Tom,” just announced as coming out exclusively via the Paramount Plus streaming service on Feb. 24.
A trailer for the project has the world-class songwriter appearing in a variety of Nashville locales, including the Ryman Auditorium, the Shelby Street Bridge downtown, a truck and a front porch, as he offers narration derived from a well-remembered, inspirational acceptance speech he gave upon being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
Monument Records will release a 10-track companion album of the same name, for which Douglas will be joined by some of the country artists he’s written for and/or with,...

Covid is to blame for yet another performance to be canceled on a New Year’s Eve television special. Zac Brown revealed Thursday on social media that he has tested positive for Covid-19 and the band will not be performing as scheduled on CBS’ New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
“Despite taking precautions, I’ve tested positive for Covid-19,” Brown wrote on the band’s official Twitter account. “While we were very excited to join the incredible line up of artists and millions of amazing fans tuning in to watch, our #1 priority is the safety and well-being of our fans, band, crew and venue staff. We’re looking forward to great things ahead and seeing you all on our tour next year.”
He then wishes everyone “a happy and healthy 2022.”
Bobby Bones and Entertainment Tonight‘s Rachel Smith will host Nashville’s Big Bash, which will culminate with the famed Nashville music note drop at midnight.
The current country lineup of performances includes headliners Dierks Bentley and Lady A, along with guest artists Ingrid Andress and Breland. The five-hour broadcast on CBS will feature nearly 50 performances from a dozen locations in downtown.
A second stage will be located at Skydeck on Broadway. Performances there will include Riley Green, Chris Janson, Jon Pardi, and Carly Pearce.

“I grew up remembering when a sitcom would celebrate 100 episodes, and they’d wheel out the cake,” says Dan Rogers. For the Grand Ole Opry, which he serves as executive producer, they’re gonna need a bigger bakery. The weekly Nashville-based show, which has been a radio program since 1925 and a TV series on and off for many of those years, is about to have its 5000th weekly Saturday night broadcast on Oct. 30. Eat your heart out, “NCIS,” “Simpsons,” “Gunsmoke,” “Meet the Press,” “General Hospital,” et al. — there’s an old kid in town.
“It’s unprecedented, and you’ll probably never see it again, especially with a radio show,” Rogers says. “Five thousand Saturday nights is astounding when you begin to think about each of those Saturday nights and what was happening on those Saturday nights — civil unrest, World War II, the Depression. But even the past 80… you know,...
