The Night Manager is one of the most loved British series. The spy thriller is based on John le Carre’s 1993 novel of the same name. The series stars Hugh Laurie as Richard Onslow Roper (Dicky), Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, Olivia Colman as Angela Burr, Tom Hollander as Major Lance, Elizabeth Debicki as Jemima and others. The series aired in 2016 and received positive reviews.
In The Night Manager, both Tom and Hugh gave exceptional performances. The Loki actor played the spy with such perfection that no one can imagine anyone else as Jonathan Pine. But did you know, that Hugh Laurie once revealed that he wanted to play Tom’s character? Yes, Hugh loved the novel in the 90s itself and wanted to adapt it into a show. However, that didn’t happen until Sussane Beir decided to adapt the book in 2016.

At the start of the current Emmys season, our in-house editors and cadre of awards experts generally agreed that the next Best Drama Actress winner would be Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”). That wasn’t the case for long, however, as the expert odds have now consistently favored Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) for over two months. Although the editors’ opinion is shared by a majority of our 2,000+ Emmy predictors, the experts could be onto something given the wide open nature of this and many more 2024 Emmy races.
Staunton’s claim to victory is strengthened by the fact that her show is the only past Best Drama Series nominee currently vying for that prize (which it won three years ago). It also helps that her supporting cast mate, Elizabeth Debicki, is her category’s obvious frontrunner due to her status as the sole 2023 drama acting contender eligible for an immediate return.

Dominic West and Lily James made headlines back in 2020 for their Pda scandal during his marriage with aristocrat, Catherine FitzGerald. While their affair rumors caught extreme media attention, the actor makes a rare statement, claiming that the scandal helped him in portraying the now United Kingdom King, Charles III in The Crown show.

The historical drama show consists of six seasons, which primarily focus on the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. While the former plays Prince Charles III in the series, he was spotted in Rome with his The Pursuit of Love costar, sparkling attention among the media. However, that incident helped him in his work.

In a very unsettled drama Emmy field, one of the few ostensible locks this year is Elizabeth Debicki. With 4/1 odds, she is the runaway favorite to take home the Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy for her turn as Princess Diana on “The Crown,” which would make the Netflix series the sixth show to deliver two different winners in the category.
Twelve shows have won drama supporting actress more than once. Of those, seven shows have had one person triumph repeatedly, including “Lou Grant” for Nancy Marchand, who won a record four times, and most recently “Ozark” for three-time champ Julia Garner. The five shows that saw the wealth spread among its cast members are “St. Elsewhere”, “The West Wing”, “Hill Street Blues”, “The Practice” and “thirtysomething”. No show has had more than two cast members win the award.
Interestingly, Marchand (1980-82; her first win was in ’78), Roberts (1983), Woodard (1984), Thomas (1985), Bartlett...

Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), wrapped way back in May of 2023, and we still have a few months to wait before A24 gives it a theatrical release on July 5th… but the folks on the Motion Picture Association ratings board already had the chance to watch the movie, and they have picked their rating for it. MaXXXine has earned an R for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use. Sounds like a good time at the movies to me!
MaXXXine is written and directed by West. Mia Goth reprises the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film has the following synopsis: In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break.

And, action. A few years back, Ti West and Mia Goth took the horror world by surprise – not with the fact that their slasher team-up X was excellent (West’s work has long been acclaimed), but with the news that, during its production, the pair had devised and shot an imminent prequel, the 1920s-set Pearl. Together, the two films made fascinating companion-pieces – each evoking different eras of filmmaking without holding back on the gore, the scares, and some surprising melancholy undertones. Add in astonishing performances from Goth as both rising porn star Maxine Minx and psycho killer Pearl, and you had an instant double-whammy hit. Now, they’re about to cap it off with X sequel MaXXXine – taking Ms. Minx into 1980s Hollywood. Watch the trailer:

The initial trailer for MaXXXine has been released ahead of its highly anticipated premiere in theaters this summer.
This new installment in the X series marks the third entry, following the original film and its prequel Pearl, both released in 2022.
Returning as the protagonist Maxine, Mia Goth reprises her role as the adult film actress who emerged as the lone survivor of the events depicted in X. However, this time, she’s supported by an impressive ensemble cast.
Among the cast are Giancarlo Esposito from Better Call Saul, Lily Collins from Emily in Paris, Elizabeth Debicki from The Crown, Bobby Cannavale from Ant-Man and The Wasp, and the iconic Kevin Bacon.
While X was set at the end of the 1970s in rural Texas, this film moves the action into the ’80s and to the glamour of Los Angeles, as Maxine attempts to pursue a career as a big Hollywood starlet.

The official trailer for writer/director Ti West’s third film of the X trilogy, MaXXXine, is all that and a bag of bloody chips. Mia Goth gets one more grisly shot at stardom in the new trailer for MaXXXine, the final installment of her slasher flick trilogy with director Ti West.

"If I tell you something, we've got confidentiality." Uh oh. A24 has revealed the first official trailer for Ti West's highly-anticipated new horror film MaXXXine, the third film in his trilogy starring the inimitable Mia Goth as the character Pearl and/or Maxine. This is set for release in July in theaters this summer. And it looks like a blast! In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past. In addition to Mia Goth as Maxine, this also co-stars Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. This is looking like the best of Ti West's Mia Goth trilogy, with much more going on. The references to vintage horror are killer. This is going to be a winner,...

A24 released the trailer for “Maxxxine” early Monday, the third part of a genre trilogy from Mia Goth and director Ti West. Whereas “X” focused on a porno shoot in 1979 and “Pearl” took the action way back to 1918 (with Goth mugging with a frozen smile for insane lengths of time), “Maxxxine” is set in Los Angeles during its sleaze nadir of 1985, with Goth’s Maxine Minx ready to make the transition from adult entertainer to horror movie star. Alas, a serial killer (“The Night Stalker”) is on the loose, causing trouble.
Set to “My Obsession” by Animotion and “Self Control” by Laura Branigan, Maxxine and hear blown-out hairstyle zoom around L.A., meeting Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon along the way.

Two years after Ti West's "X" unleashed aspiring movie star and blood-soaked final girl Maxine (Mia Goth) into the world, she's back in the first trailer for "MaXXXine" -- and closer than ever to achieving her dream. "You're a f**king movie star," she whispers to herself in the mirror at the end of the film's just-released first trailer, and it's easy to believe her.
A few years after driving away from the Texas farmhouse where she was nearly killed, Maxine Minx has rebranded herself as a bombshell blonde in double denim, and she's quickly building a resume in the adult film industry. The movie seems to kick off with Maxine earning a role in a legitimate horror movie, but her aspirations are soon threatened by something neither the women who work alongside her in L.A.'s sex work scene nor fans of West's franchise saw coming: the L.

Like any summer movie slate, the lineup is chock full of sequels and franchise additions, but one of the few that may bring something a bit fresh is the final entry into Ti West’s X slasher trilogy. All starring Mia Goth as Maxine / Pearl, the first film X dropped in early 2022, while its prequel Pearl arrived in September of the same year. While the wait for the sequel, MaXXXine, has been a bit longer, it’ll now finally debut this July. Ahead of the release, A24 has now dropped the first trailer.
Also starring Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, with Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon, the 1980s-set feature follows the adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx as she finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.

Look out Hollywood! Maxine Minx has come to town to be a star, and heaven help those who get in her way. Including, presumably, a mysterious killer who has designs on her.
A24 has finally dropped the trailer for Maxxxine, the final nail in the proverbial coffin of its hit and acclaimed X horror trilogy from filmmaker Ti West.

Mia Goth’s Maxine has found her home in the seedy underbelly of erotic films in 1985 Hollywood.
One of IndieWire’s most anticipated films of 2024, Ti West’s “MaXXXine” is set to conclude the franchise led by star Goth following the success of “X” and “Pearl.” Goth’s Maxine survived the bloodbath during an adult film shoot in “X,” and brought her twisted final girl status to the starry city of Los Angeles a decade later. Maxine’s thirst for fame mirrors her counterpart Pearl’s (also played by Goth in both “X” and origin story “Pearl”) obsession with stardom.

The third movie picks up with Maxine (Mia Goth) as she “continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.” In addition to Goth, MaXXXine boasts a cast which includes Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Moses Summney, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
There have been rumblings that the sequel is a “good old whodunit slasher,” but Goth has teased that she views MaXXXine more as a superhero movie. “That’s how I read the script,” Goth said. “Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot.

“The Bear” cooked up a record-breaking 10 Emmy wins for its first season and it feels all but certain that it will nab a bookend Best Comedy Series statuette in September — not to mention go 7/7. But what has the best chance of taking it down? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss the top-heavy comedy field… and the rise of “The Gentlemen”?
“Hacks,” returning for its third season on May 2 after missing last year’s eligibility, and “Abbott Elementary” are second and third in the odds behind “The Bear.” Each also stars the most recent Best Comedy Actress winners, Jean Smart and reigning champ Quinta Brunson, respectively. While “Hacks” Season 3 is yet to be seen, “Abbott” has returned with a bang with its shortened third season, due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss the drama field, which has lots of open slots.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday and we’ve saved the drama long enough. To misappropriate a classic line from one of my favorite comedies for purposes of this column: Are we having fun yet? Once home to “Succession,” “Better Call Saul” and “The Last of Us” among other bangers, this year’s drama category feels somewhat lighter by comparison. There is no real frontrunner, at least in the way we’ve been used to here, so that leaves “The Crown” — three years removed from its Emmy sweep but with a demonstrably less-loved season — and “The Morning Show” at the top of the predictions charts. The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.

Constantin Film and Big Light Productions has tapped Christian Schwochow, whose credits include “The Crown,” “Munich: The Edge of War” and “Bad Banks,” to direct its upcoming high-profile drama series “Nuremberg,” based on the Nuremberg Trials. The show will be written by Frank Spotnitz, whose credits include “The Man in the High Castle,” “Ransom” and “Leonardo.”
The series follows young survivors of World War II who go to work for Allied prosecutors trying Nazi criminals in Nuremberg, only to find their quest for justice undermined by secret efforts to build a new world order based on power, not principle.
Schwochow said: “The Nuremberg Trials marked a pivotal moment in human history, ushering in a new age of responsibility and justice. This is a story of humanity grappling with its deepest shadows. Its relevance has never been greater, and I am filled with a humble sense of duty to tell this story faithfully.

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

No Wonder Woman 3 With Gal Gadot ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Patty Jenkins directed the DC movies Wonder Woman (2021) and its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 (2021). The female-led superhero movie stars Gal Gadot, is in the titular role. While the first movie received a great response, the sequel struggled to impress everyone. Now that DC has revamped itself entirely with a new slate and James Gunn and Peter Safran headlining the kind of content going on, will Patty return to direct the third part?
On the Talking Pictures podcast, the host asked Patty Jenkins if there will be Wonder Woman 3 and if she will return to direct the Gal Gadot starrer. The director said that she’s done with the franchise for the time being, and easily forever. Jenkins believes that there won’t be a third movie, too.
Patty Jenkins said, “No. They’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being.
