Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who was recently seen in the Nikhil Mahajan-directorial ‘I Love You’, has spoken about her upcoming sci-fi film ‘Ayalaan’, which she went on to call a ‘once in a lifetime experience’.
‘Ayalaan’, which is directed by Tamil filmmaker R Ravi Kumar is a sci-fi-extraterrestrial-comedy film which employs a great deal of VFX and high-quality CGI. While using CGI in Indian films is nothing new, having a movie with more than 4,500 CGI shots is a new one.
Talking about the film, the actress said: “Oh, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because there is an extraterrestrial in the picture, and you know there isn’t one when you’re shooting, but you’re assuming there is. You must shoot it in such a way that people believe the film has an actual alien.”
“You’re reacting to a prop, you’re reacting to nothing, and you have to do it convincingly.

I Love You has a deeper meaning to it and is always used in the context of happiness in most movies in the romantic genre. Jitendra Joshi, who plays the lead character ‘Nishikant’ in Godavari won the best actor award at Iffi to be the only 4th Indian actor to win this award in the last 60 years! To add to the credibility, Godavari was the only Marathi film among the six films selected in Indian languages by the government for Cannes and the only Indian film at this year’s Vancouver International Film Festival.
One of the most silent characters of Godavari – Nashik – has a lot of mythological significance due to its references to stories of Ramayana, birthplace of Hanuman, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, Kumbh Mela, source of Godavari, etc. However, even in contemporary times, the ancient city of Nashik, on the banks of the river Godavari is seen to be maintaining its traditions going on for years together.

Zee Theatre is celebrating the birth anniversary of eminent playwright Vijay Tendulkar with teleplays Khamosh Adalat Jaari Hai and Sakharam B. Tendulkar redefined Marathi theatre with his searing commentaries on socio-political issues and often rattled conventions and questioned oppressive norms. Both teleplays perfectly exemplify the incisive and powerful writing that Tendulkar's peerless oeuvre stands for. Khamosh Adalat Jaari Hai is an adaptation of his 1967 Marathi classic Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe and Sakharam B is based on the 1972 masterpiece Sakharam Binder.

“Betaal” – original Netflix mini-series influenced by local legends and myths, but also by the forgotten god of dread described in Somdev Bhatt’s storybooks from 11th century, is the first proper Indian attempt at the zombie genre. Spiked with social criticism, the show offers more than just snapping jaws of the undead, who happen to be the former British colonialists.
The Volunteers battalion that served under the command of lieutenant colonel John Lynedoch during the Independence War of 1857 is trapped in a mountain passage built a long time ago by the English, and the flesh-thirsty men are held under control by rituals performed by local villagers, under the guidance of their sorceress. In the very opening scene, people are seen praying to lord Betaal to keep his slumber, and their peace intact.

Netflix has ordered five new originals out of India with Hollywood producers including Blumhouse and Chernin Entertainment getting in on the action.
The Svod service is doubling down on its scripted drive in the region – following the success of titles such as Delhi Crime and Selection Day.
Over the next twelve months, it will launch Bombay Begums, Mai, Betaal, Messy and Masaba Masaba.
Bombay Begums, executive produced by Chernin Entertainment and Endemol Shine India, is a story set in contemporary urban India that sees five women, across generations, wrestle with desire, ethics, personal crises and vulnerabilities to own their ambition. As glass ceilings are shattered and hearts are broken, difficult choices have to be made. And as each woman strives to find her own truth, they find in each other an unexpected understanding and the sliver of a bond. It was created, written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava.

“The scripting is done, the finance is in place. We are just waiting for [actor] Girish Kulkarni to become free,” said Mahajan, whose last film release was the 2015 vigilante film Baji.

D earCinema profiles the six screenwriters who are participating in Nfdc Screenwriters’ Lab at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival.
Screenwriters’ Lab, a 2-part workshop conducted by the National Film Development Corporation (Nfdc) is designed to prepare screenwriters with original Indian stories for working with the international filmmaking community.
Nikhil Mahajan answers five questions about his project “Dainik” (Daily):
Tell us about your project:
Dainik (Daily) is an investigative drama set in the 1970s. It’s a story of a young, firebrand journalist and an extremist, Hindutvawadi goon, who form an unlikely friendship to start the first daily newspaper in a town that had none of its own. Based on true events, Dainik traverses the journey of this newspaper and the challenges that it brings with it.
At what stage of development is it?
I am still working on the screenplay. I am also meeting actors and looking at possible casting options.
