TNT is playing the long game with its NHL studio team, inking multiyear contract extensions for Wayne Gretzky, Paul Bissonnette, Anson Carter and Henrik Lundqvist weeks before the 2023-24 season faces off.
The Warner Bros Discovery-owned network also said today that veteran broadcaster and 13-year NHL goalie Brian Boucher is joining as an ice-level analyst, working alongside A-team announcers Kenny Albert and Eddie Olczyk.
All-time NHL points leader Gretzky and ex-NHLers Bissonnette and Carter have been with the NHL on TNT since it began in 2021, and newly minted Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Lundquist joined last year. They all will be teamed again with studio host Liam McHugh.

Bob Costas is joining the starting lineup at WarnerMedia’s Turner Sports — at least for now.
The veteran sportscaster will serve as on-site studio host for pre-game and post-game coverage of the National League Championship Series on Warner’s TBS cable network, marking the first time Costas has worked game coverage for the media conglomerate. He already hosts a sports-journalism program, “Back On The Record,” on Warner’s HBO, and contributes to its CNN news network.
“It’s my job to kind of move everything along, be the traffic cop asking a few good questions,” Costas says in an interview. He has been calling and analyzing the sport since the 1980s, first for NBC and more recently for the MLB Network. Talks between Costas and Turner Sports were previously reported in August by the New York Post.

Al Michaels is being pulled from “Sunday Night Football” this weekend “in accordance with NBCUniversal Covid-19 safety protocols,” NBC Sports said on Friday.
“Michaels has not been cleared to work this weekend’s game,” the group informed media via email.
Mike Tirico will replace Michaels on the primetime NFL game’s play-by-play.
NBC did not specifically say if Michaels tested positive for Covid-19, but the legendary sportscaster said the following in a statement provided to media: “I feel great, I have no symptoms, and my temperature this morning was 97.5. I look forward to returning to the booth as soon as possible.”
We asked an NBC Sports spokesperson if Michaels tested positive for Covid-19 or if this was a decision made out of an abundance of caution due to a potential exposure, but that information was not made available to us.

Steve Kornacki has a new job that lets him keep his old uniform.
MSNBC viewers revere the khaki-and-dress-shirt-clad correspondent’s ability to synthesize reams of polling data that helps them understand the twists and turns of various elections. Just a month ago, Kornacki manipulated a giant touch screen during hours and hours of MSNBC 2020 election coverage — and helped millions of anxious viewers get through one of the most harrowing political events in recent memory.
Now he’s hoping to do the same for football fans.
Kornacki just finished a second week of Sunday duty for NBC Sports, making regular appearances on ”Football Night in America” and the halftime show of ”Sunday Night Football.” He’s not looking at how many votes Trump or Biden may have left in Arizona’s Maricopa County. He’s examining the potential for the Miami Dolphins or Baltimore Ravens to reach the playoffs. “There’s...

Bob Costas says he lost his job co-hosting the Super Bowl on NBC last year after the network told him he “crossed the line,” a teaser for an upcoming “E:60” report from ESPN shows.
“I remember being told that now I can no longer host the Super Bowl,” Costas says in the trailer that was released Friday. It goes on to narrate that the veteran play-by-play sportscaster reveals in Sunday’s show how and why “his tortured relationship with football came to an unexpected end.”
“I think the words were, ‘You’ve crossed the line,'” Costas said. “And my thought was, what line have I crossed?”

It’s official. Mike Tirico has been named the new studio host for NBC’s primetime Sunday pregame show Football Night in America. Tirico was reported to have been the leading candidate to succeed Dan Patrick, who told the New York Post in March that he turned down a new five-year contract to continue as host. “I didn’t want to do it and not love doing it,” Patrick said at the time. He had served as Football Night‘s studio host since 2008.
Tirico will work alongside Fnia analysts Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison, and NFL Insider Mike Florio, from Studio 1 at NBC Sports’ International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Ct.
For the past two seasons, Tirico co-hosted Fnia from the game site. That role now will be filled by Liam McHugh, who will be joined on site most weeks by the Sunday Night Football team of Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya.

After winning the hearts of Americans on the ice (and on Twitter), Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon was approached this weekend about joining NBC as a correspondent in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for the remainder of the 2018 Winter Games.
It was an offer his team initially accepted, according to one report, only to turn it down soon after when Rippon, who said he first learned about all of this via social media, realized he would have to leave Team USA — something he felt he could not do out of respect for his teammates.
“I am so flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent.
