Fox Who will make it to the top 12?
It was an agonizing night for the contestants on “American Idol” as 40 million voters sent 14 singers packing. But some of those got a second chance.
It was painful enough to watch everyone stand on stage as Ryan Seacrest dragged out the news, but there were to be 2 wildcards chosen by the judges. So even if a singer didn’t make the cut from voters, everyone waited out the nearly 2-hour show to...

Fox The cast of “American Idol.”
“American Idol” shortened its list of singers tonight. By the end of the show there will be just 12 finalists staying and 12 going home. The public’s vote will count for 10 picked and the judges will pick two wildcards to go to the finals as well.
Ryan Seacrest said the voting reached new Idol records – 40 million in two nights.
Here’s a halftime report:
Five guys will get the nod to go on in the competition.

This is going to be hard. I honestly can say that ten of these girls could really have a shot at getting voted in. There was an interesting variety of song choices, and overall another great night of music. I'm sort of sad that I won't get to see more of some of these girls, but overall I think there are a variety of ways this could go without making me unhappy.
I'll go again in the order they sang.
Tatynisa Wilson: "Only Girl in the World" This is a shouty song to begin with, and Tatynisa did little to change that. It was pitchy, even if sung with convinction. Once again Randy was the voice of reason, pointing out the flaws of the performance (in a constructive way no less.) Verdict: out.
Naima Adedapo: "Summertime" I'm going to pretend that I've never heard of Fantasia Barrino for...

In the words of the great philosopher Kool: “Oh yes it’s ladies’ night, and the feeling’s right. Oh yes it’s ladies’ night, oh what a night.” Or to put it another way, the top 12 women of American Idol‘s tenth season just brought it to the big stage, and now we’re faced with the tough work of advancing a quintet to the finals, while forcing the other seven to walk the reality TV plank. Somehow it doesn’t seem fair, does it?

The "American Idol" universe is about to get infinitely more interesting this week, as the Top 24 will get chopped down to 13 by the end of the week (America will vote on the Top 10, and then each judge will get a wild card pick). Each performer will still get the chance to sing for his or her life this week, so there are still lots of performances left. MTV News (especially "American Idol" expert Jim Cantiello) will be all over the developments this week, including the premiere of "Idol Party Live," which will air this and every Thursday night (March 3) at 10 p.m. (right after "Idol" wraps its live show) on MTV.com.

HollywoodNews.com: Get ready to start choosing your favorite contestants on ‘American Idol’ as oddsmakers are choosing who they believe will win.
At this time, those at Bogdog.com are reportedly placing Lauren Alaina as the early favorite, states MTV. Another female performer comes in second most likely to take the title: Julie Zorrilla.
Unfortunately, TaTynisa Wilson, Jordan Dorsey or Rachel Zevita are given the worst odds of winning this year, but maybe one of them will come from behind to win it all.
Who do you think will win?

The "American Idol" Top 24 is here! Fans, get your voting fingers ready. Before the guys take the stage Tuesday night (March 1), Zap2it thought we should offer some of our picks and predictions from our very own Tierney Bricker and Andrea Reiher.
Favorite Guy
Tierney: Paul McDonald. I don't know why producers decided to hide Paul in the "Idol" dungeon throughout the audition process, but I guess I should just be grateful they eventually let him out, right? Paul has worked his way through, not relying on a sob story or crazy antics -- just his unique (so overused, but true here) and distinctive voice. I don't think there's ever been a contestant more prepared for the "Idol" machine -- and fame in general -- than Paul.
Andrea: Scotty McCreery. Talk about a true downhome, old-school country voice. Plus, this year they are supposedly not going to be shoe-horning the Idols into various genres.

They've already survived Hollywood Week, Las Vegas and even that very long walk down the airplane hangar, but now, the real competition begins. On Tuesday night (March 1), the "American Idol" Top 24 will sing for their lives — guys first, followed by the girls on Wednesday — and it will be up to viewers at home to determine just who moves on.
And though there's still a long way to go until we reach the finals in May, that hasn't stopped some "Idol" hopefuls from already surging to the front of the field ... at least, according to the oddsmakers, that is.
With the Top 24 set to tip off, the folks at Bodog.com have just released their odds for each of the remaining contestants, a list that's topped by early frontrunner (and Steven Tyler favorite) Lauren Alaina,...

The picking out of semifinalists on American Idol has to be the most agonizing episode to watch. On one hand, I want to see everyone's reaction. On the other, did we really need to take two hours to tell people yes and no?
Every year, it seems the producers try to outdo themselves in making the contestants travel to and from their final judgment. It's gone from a room, to a mansion, and this year is in the nicest looking airplane hangar I've ever seen. (I'm a military brat, so I've seen quite a few.) What's next year going to be? Will the contestants have to take a small boat to a remote island?
This is a fairly straight-forward episode, so I'm going to go down the line, just as Idol did. (Although I promise to try and keep my word count down.)
