In October of 2020, The Band Perry — siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil — headed down to Dallas, Texas, to try and give their recording days as family trio one last shot. Unmoored during Covid lockdown and slowly finding their way back to Tennessee from their shared Sherman Oaks, California, house, they made a series of demos with Paul Cauthen’s producing team that never saw the light of day. Kimberly Perry was a fan of Cauthen’s 41 Project, especially his “Cocaine Country Dancing,” and thought the feel might suit them and their Southern gothic inclinations.

This year’s Country Music Association Awards at times resembled a classic tune from the genre. There were troubles, people leaving, and much fightin’ and feudin’ going on.
Still, the 54th edition of the awards went on as scheduled, emanating from the Music City Center in Nashville with co-hosts Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker.

The nominations for the 54th CMA Awards are out this morning, and they don’t include country music legend Garth Brooks as a nominee for the Entertainer of the Year award.
That’s because Brooks voluntarily disqualified himself in late July, saying that he’s won too many times — seven, to be exact, including last year’s — and wants to give the opportunity to another artist.
It was a tweet from a fan that steered Brooks to the decision.
“It said, ‘Hey, man. This guy, why doesn’t he just step down (and leave) the entertainer for the next generation?’ 100% agree,” he told press according to The Tennessean. “It’s time for somebody else to hold that award.”
That leaves the possibilities open this year to Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Luke Combs and Eric Church. May the best country star win.

Kelsea Ballerini performed two songs off her upcoming album Kelsea on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday night, her latest single “Homecoming Queen?” and the vulnerable “La.”
“I’ve got a love n’ hate relationship with La,” Ballerini sings in the atmospheric mid-tempo track, which finds the Tennessee native sharing feelings of inadequacy when she visits California’s celebrity mecca: “I’ve got some famous friends that I could call but I don’t know if I’m cool enough/what’s worse than spending time alone is one of them not picking up.

With the romantic new track “The Bones,” Maren Morris imagines the sturdy structure of a building as a metaphor for the makings of a solid relationship. But instead of being confined indoors surrounded by four walls and a roof, the song’s official video, directed by Alex Ferrari, captures Morris and her musician husband Ryan Hurd in intimate vacation footage, canoodling on a beach and taking in the scenery around them.
“When the bones are good, the rest don’t matter/Yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter,...

Country crooner Brett Young offers an example of his new, upbeat approach with “Reason to Stay,” the third track released from his upcoming second album, Ticket to L.A.
Co-written by Young with Jon Nite, Jimmy Robbins and Emily Warren, “Reason to Stay” follows in the sonic footsteps of the album’s title track and first single “Here Tonight” — both songs show off a fresh side to the Cma nominee’s artistry. He’s been previously known for vulnerable, brokenhearted ballads like “In Case You Didn’t Know,” Like I Loved You” and “Mercy,...

When Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye burst onto the scene in 2014 with “Girl in a Country Song,” the duo were often highlighted as part of the next chapter for country music. That breakout hit, along with the biting “Shut Up and Fish,” helped to get them placed in the same category as Miranda Lambert, the Dixie Chicks and Carrie Underwood; namely, women who don’t take any shit. But with their latest project, Maddie and Tae wanted to show fans the other dimensions of themselves.

Allow RaeLynn to reintroduce herself.
It's been more than five years since the country darling first caught Blake Shelton's ear with her Pistol Annies-inspired blind audition on The Voice's second season. "I heard this voice start to sing, and it was familiar, but it was also like something I'd never heard before," Shelton tells Et. "Instantly, she looked like a star standing there -- an unexplainable thing that she has about her that separates her from everybody else in the world."
Then just 17 years old, competing for Team Blake, RaeLynn was ultimately sent home by her coach during the competition's quarterfinals. And that's when the real work began.
"I went straight back to Nashville, started writing Monday through Friday, then got my butt in a van," the 22-year-old tells Et. "I went to every country radio station in the U.S., got ready in gas stations, lived off Starbucks and Chick-fil-a -- that's how it...

Don't call RaeLynn insecure!
The 22-year-old country singer is battling jealousy with a song of empowerment on her new album, WildHorse, out Dec. 2, and only Et has your first listen to the track "Insecure."
Watch: RaeLynn Dishes on the Date That Inspired 'For a Boy'
"I had the title 'Insecure' in my phone and I didn't know how I wanted to write it. I was like, 'Maybe this is not going to be a song,' because I didn't want to write a song about being insecure, you know?" RaeLynn tells Et.
But a chance encounter alongside her husband, Josh Davis, provided a perfect creative spark.
"I was out with Josh and I kinda got insecure about this girl that was checking him out or whatever, and I remember getting in the car and doing the thing that girls always do -- 'Do you think she's prettier than me?' 'Do you think she's cooler than me...

RaeLynn's newest music video hits extremely close to home - her childhood home. The singer's latest tune "Love Triangle" is a raw and emotional account of what it's like to be the child of divorced parents. "When you're a kid of divorce, that is your life," RaeLynn, 22, tells People exclusively of knowing the feeling first-hand. "You have two beds, you have two separate lives. The whole point of family is to be a unit and to do a lot of things together and it's just not that when your parents are divorced. I think there's been a lot of divorce songs out there,...

"We Were Us" was the one that almost got away from Keith Urban. Instead, his duet with Miranda Lambert became a very sweet 16th No. 1 single, celebrated with writers Nicolle Galyon, Jon Nite and Jimmy Robbins at a high noon Music Row party in Nashville on Monday. Composed as a duet, the song was first intended for an unnamed female artist, according to Gaylon, who said: "We heard through the grapevine that she was kind of looking for a duet for her record, so we kind of wrote it for that, but somehow it made it into Keith's hands before...

In 2009, Alexz Johnson was on her way to becoming a rockstar, just like her TV persona Jude Harrison. After starring in the Canadian television series "Instant Star," Johnson was signed to Epic Records. Things looked promising for the young singer, who had recorded a debut album with the label. However, when Epic started to restructure their artists, Johnson was subsequently dropped from the label, and her debut album was never released.
"It was an amazing experience," Johnson told HuffPost Entertainment. "I was even offered a part on '90210,' but I turned it down because I really wanted to go on tour with this record. Then it never ended up getting a release. I waited about 10 months, but the head of the label, who signed me, wasn't there anymore, and it never got released."
Some artists may have given up, but Johnson, 25, is doing things her own way. After being dropped,...
