Whatever happened to director Joseph Monahan’s independent cannibal-slasher flick Wonder Valley? We caught up recently with the first-time filmmaker to get the skinny on the now completed flick. Read on!
Filmed in May 2011 in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California (see our coverage of that here), Wonder Valley was written by Monahan (who also executive produces), Kenny White and producer Creep Creepersin, and the narrative follows a quartet of vacationers who unfortunately find their numbers start to dwindle during their ill-conceived trip in purportedly unexpected and rather bloody ways. Along with actors Charlie Vaughn and Suziey Block, rounding out the cast are Natalie Pero (Raze), David Michaelson and Kim Ward, with makeup effects provided by Jacky Belle (The Devil’s Carnival).
“The original narrative basically changed back to more of its original form,” director Monahan told us of the Wonder Valley re-shoots, which he recently completed. “Before we shot on location last May,...

With Christian Ackerman’s short film Hell’s Belles having premiered this past Saturday, March 24th, in Hollywood, California, we thought we’d bring you a photo gallery from the red carpet invitation only event, as well as word on the audience’s response. Read on!
“The premiere was kick-ass!” said Hell’s Belles writer, director and editor Ackerman of the event, who along with producer Drina Durazo organized the premiere, which was co-sponsored by Dread Central. Held on the picturesque rooftop of the Cosmo Lofts Building overlooking Hollywood, the Hell’s Belles premiere kicked off with a red carpet, two open bars, hors d'oeuvres and appropriately rocking music spun by DJs Xalox B and DJ Devious prior to the screening.
“We had a huge turnout, and I was happy to unleash the Belles onto the world,” effused Ackerman. “I tried to make it an experience everyone would remember, and...

This writer and Dread Central's The Horror Starlets took part this past Sunday, October 23rd, in the seventh annual non-profit Bowling for Boobies Los Angeles breast cancer charity event, and we wish to thank those in the horror community and beyond who so generously donated to this wonderful cause. We couldn’t do it every year without you!
Culminating at Jillian’s Hi-Life at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles, California, with a pink carpet, a night of bowling, and the paparazzi snapping away (see our photo gallery by Geza Decsy below), the charity - run by founder Stephanie Lahart of the Busted Foundation - raised over $100,000 with our team (who received an award this year for ‘Biggest Balls’ for ‘Most Money Raised the Fastest’) contributing nearly $14K of that total. As they do each year, the proceeds will directly benefit local Los Angeles women battling breast cancer.

This writer is asking you, our tightly-knit horror community, as we approach October – our month of months – to unite for a good cause: to support local Los Angeles women battling breast cancer by contributing to the Bowling for Boobies campaign.
For the past several years I've been involved directly with Bowling for Boobies (a non-profit fundraiser which provides monetary assistance to L.A. women who are experiencing financial challenges as the result of fighting and living with breast cancer). It's been a vastly rewarding experience as the money Bfb generates goes directly to someone struggling with this deadly disease, Not some ambiguous research society.
This year we're at it again with the 7th Annual Bowling for Boobies, which culminates on October 23 in Los Angeles at Jillian’s Hi-Life at Universal City Walk with a red carpet followed by an evening of bowling. Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's will be on...

Recently Dread caught up exclusively with filmmaker Charlie Vaughn (director of Bloody Mary 3D) and in this capacity actor in regard to his current turn as ‘Jeffery’ in the now shooting cannibal-slasher flick Wonder Valley. Read on for a first look at ocular candy featuring star Suziey Block and a teaser poster from the indie production.
Helmed by first-time feature director Joseph Monahan, whose background lies in specialty photography (he was responsible for the rig that rendered that hammer Pov in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor), Wonder Valley was shooting Day Five last evening in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California. Written by Monahan (who also executive produces), Kenny White and producer Creep Creepersin, the narrative follows a quartet of vacationers who unfortunately find their numbers start to dwindle during their ill-conceived trip in purportedly unexpected and unsurprisingly rather bloody ways. “The idea came to me a few years ago when I began writing a feature horror/comedy around a young female who drives a hearse,” writer, producer, and director Chris Ackerman told Dread last Saturday night on the set of his then-shooting short film Hell’s Belles. “The main character, ‘Adria Blackmoor’, lives a sheltered life as a morgue technician at her grandfather’s cemetery when unfortunately the gates of hell open, and she’s forced to battle a strange assortment of creatures to save her town.”
Hollywood being Hollywood, however, burgeoning filmmakers are keenly aware of the distinct lack of imagination most suits have during the pitching process (a manuscript seldom cuts it any longer in communicating one’s vision), so Ackerman, who previously served as an associate producer on Yossi Sasson’s 2008 horror feature Dead and Gone, took it upon himself to helm a shortened version of his script,...
