Wei Han(I)
- Producer
Wei Han is the Founder and CEO at Bliss Media, which is based in Shanghai, China. Under her leadership, the company has built up its capabilities in international film financing, production, acquisitions, distribution, and also artist management. As a former investment banker and M&A expert, she has dedicated herself to pioneering a business model that seeks to bring the global film industry to the booming Chinese market and the flourishing Chinese film industry to the world.
Han has acquired the Chinese distribution rights of Jonathan Jakubowicz's "Resistance" starring Jesse Eisenberg, which is in post-production and will be released globally later this year. She produced two-time BAFTA award winner Charles Martin's "S.M.A.R.T. Chase" starring Orlando Bloom and financed and executive produced Denize Gamze Ergüven's "Kings" starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig. Past credits include Pablo Larraín's "Jackie" starring Natalie Portman, Sean McNamara's "The Moon and Sun" starring Pierce Brosnan, and Roland Joffé's "The Lovers" starring Josh Hartnett. The films that she has produced and worked on have premiered at major film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and Telluride Film Festival receiving both Academy Award® nominations and wins.
Han also orchestrated an incredibly successful campaign for the release of Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" in China, culminating in more than US$60 million at the local box office while smashing previous records of all imported war films in less than 70 hours of its release. The film remained in theaters for more than the customary 30 days approved by the film bureau as a result of its strong box office performance and across the board positive reviews. "Hacksaw Ridge" then went on to win an Academy Award® for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
Han also co-owned Insiders, a Los Angeles-based international sales company, together with Wild Bunch and CineFrance. One of its titles, Jeff Nichols' "Loving," was an official selection of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, then received numerous festival accolades before receiving Golden Globe® and Academy Award® nominations. A joint venture between Insiders and MadRiver Pictures then saw the formation of IMR International. This entity, which had two titles at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, "Windriver" and "You Were Never Really Here," and one title at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, "Under the Silver Lake," is also partially owned by Han.
Han was previously managing partner of Maritime Capital, which she founded in 2006. She previously worked in the M&A department at the New York headquarters of IBM. Han has an M.B.A. and a Master of Science from Boston College Carroll School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Centenary College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She also completed an advanced finance program at NYU Stern Business School.
