In October 2020, months into the pandemic’s decimation of the restaurant industry, Dan Levy got the idea for “The Big Brunch,” the uplifting HBO Max cooking competition that revolves around his favorite meal of the day. Levy was in bed at the time, and sprung up to “write it down from start to finish.” The next day, he called his managers to tell them about it, and when they asked Levy what exactly the show would be, he presented it to them in “great detail.”
As we sat together on a seafoam green banquette, facing the open kitchen in which the chefs cook on the show’s bistro-inspired set — designed by David Korins, of “Hamilton” fame — it was clear that those details are very important to “The Big Brunch.”
As is the show’s heart, with which fans of Levy’s “Schitt’s Creek” are by now well-acquainted. Levy has friends who are chefs,...

Did Pepsi actually launch an ad campaign in which they seemed to promise a Harrier jet to anyone who collected enough Pepsi Points? Strange as it sounds, they did. The Netflix documentary series Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? follows the case of John Leonard, the man who attempted to get Pepsi to give him a jet and ultimately sued the corporation when they refused to come through.
Netflix just dropped the trailer for the docuseries and announced the four-part series will premiere on November 17, 2022. The streaming service also released the following description of Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?:

Because no media story of the ’90s is complete without a streaming documentary about it, a docuseries examining a court case over an infamous Pepsi commercial is heading to Netflix. Four-part docuseries “Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?” will touch down onto the streamer November 17.
The series, which cheekily takes its name from stoner comedy “Dude, Where’s My Car?,” revolves around John Leonard, a college student who, in 1996, went on an ambitious quest to obtain 7 million “Pepsi Points,” a loyalty program that offered merchandise for customers who bought enough Pepsi cans. In a commercial for the program, Pepsi advertised that 7 million points (equivalent to about 4.3 million in Pepsi cases) could be redeemed for an Av-8 Harrier II jet.
The Coke competitor made it even easier via some fine print in the catalog that allowed one to buy Pepsi Points for just 10 cents apiece. In this case, 15 legitimate Pepsi Points plus a...

HBO Max dropped the trailer for “The Big Brunch,” the new cooking competition series from creator Dan Levy, who also serves as host and judge. “Black Bird,” a limited series starring Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser, will premiere on Apple TV Plus this July 8, the streamer announced Thursday.
Based on James Keene and Hillel Levin’s true crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption,” “Black Bird” stars Egerton as Keene, a police officer’s son who is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison for drug dealing. While serving his sentence, he is offered a chance for early parole, on the condition that he move to a prison for the criminally insane and befriend serial killer Larry Hall (Hauser). Keene reluctantly agrees to the unusual case, and develops a complicated relationship with Hall as he attempts to discover the truth behind the murders the convict is suspected of committing. In addition to Egerton and Hauser, the series also stars Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta.

Dan Levy’s upcoming HBO Max cooking competition “The Big Brunch” has found its judging panel: Joining Levy at the judges’ table will be chef Sohla El-Waylly and restaurateur Will Guidara. The unscripted series — created and hosted by Levy, and produced by Boardwalk Pictures — will premiere on the streamer later this year.
In the announcement, Levy and fellow executive producers Andrew Fried and Sarina Roma of Boardwalk Pictures said: “We owed it to our competing chefs to find judges who could help them in really meaningful ways — both in the kitchen and beyond, and Sohla and Will do just that. They each have such distinctly unique culinary voices that combined, speak not only to flavor and technique, but also business and hospitality. We couldn’t be more excited that Sohla and Will have joined us, as their expertise and insight are an invaluable asset to our incredibly inspiring group of undiscovered chefs.

The primary simultaneous imbalance and blessing of W. Kamau Bell’s We Need To Talk About Cosby is that even with a running time of four-hours, it’s clear by the end there’s still a lot more to say about the ex-convicted sex offender who was once America’s Dad.
Which is sort of the point of the United Shades of America host directed docuseries, premiering today at the virtual Sundance Film Festival and on January 30 on Showtime. After potent interviews with fellow comedians, journalists, cultural commentators, and lawyers as well as several of the dozens and dozens of survivors of Cosby’s sexual assaults in the docuseries, when Bell asks towards the conclusion of the fourth episode if you can “separate the art from the artist, and should you?” the conversation has no choice but to continue in the existential afterparty.

Showtime Documentary Films announced “We Need To Talk About Cosby” will premiere on Jan. 30 at 10 p.m., following its Sundance Film Festival premiere.
From Emmy-winning director W. Kamau Bell, the four-part docuseries will take a deep dive into Bill Cosby’s influential career and ultimate downfall — due to accusations of rape, drug facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery and other misconduct by more than 60 women.
“As a child of Bill Cosby, I was a huge fan of all of his shows and wanted to be a comedian because of him,” said Bell in a statement. “I never thought I’d ever wrestle with who we all thought Cosby was and who we now understand him to be. I’m not sure he would want me to do this work, but Cliff Huxtable definitely would.”
Added Vinnie Malhorta, executive vice president of nonfiction programming, Showtime Networks: “Kamau has bravely ventured into...

Dan Levy’s production calendar just keeps exploding. The latest project for the multi-hyphenate, cooking competition series “The Big Brunch,” which also comes from Boardwalk Pictures, has been ordered at HBO Max with a 2022 targeted premiere.
Levy created and will host the series that centers around celebrating inspiring but still undiscovered culinary voices from all across the U.S — but also brunch. As the title promises, the competing chefs will have to find innovative and personal ways to redefine what it means to dine between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The series will spotlight the chefs’ stories and business dreams while also giving them a chance to compete for a “life-altering prize.” (HBO Max has yet to announced the specific details around the episodic format or prize amount.)
