Last year on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the show hopped genres from hi-tech super hero espionage to supernatural thrill-fest to Matrix-like action. And now, here in season of 5 of Marvel’s first modern TV series, we have hopped genres again into the realm of apocalyptic sci-fi survival as this new season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts off with a huge bang.
And boy, did we need it. After six weeks of watching Marvel’s Inhumans endlessly wander around Hawaii aggressively not using their powers, it sure feels good to have some proper Marvel action on ABC. So where to begin?...

With a hot new single on the airwaves and a tour under way, Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick – the frontman of pop band Fitz & the Tantrums – is flying high.
“I make music to have people hear it,” Fitzpatrick tells People in this week’s issue. “I want it to reach as many people and then we go out on tour, and every night I’m like ‘Is anybody actually gonna show up?’ Then I look out and there’s 5,000 people out there to see us, and I come out on stage and they all know the songs.”
He says, “It’s the dream – that’s everything.

Welcome to PeekTV, your daily look at the best that television has to offer. In each installment, we make three picks for the best shows to watch and…toss in a little extra.
The Weekend of May 19-21 What Happened Last Night?!
(Why is this man sulking? Find out what happened with last night’s TV picks.)
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”
Season 3, Netflix
Synopsis: As Ben Travers put it in his season review: Through six episodes, Season 3 has shown far less reliance on the past and an invigorating interest in the future. It’s not that Kimmy’s time underground got stale so much as her rapid development into adulthood would inevitably require more time to be spent in the present. We’ve covered a lot of her arrested development, and now it’s time to see what kind of story an adult Kimmy has to tell. So far, it’s a damn good one.

Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. gets spooky as we meet the team’s new boss - a heroic blast from Marvel’s past...
This review contains spoilers.
4.1 Meet The New Boss
I’ve been recapping Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for Den Of Geek Us since the premiere. To be honest, while I still enjoyed the series immensely last year, it was kind of a chore (I know, first world nerd problems). Every episode was pretty much the same. Inhumans machinations and intrigue and Hydra, Hydra, Hydra. The show was enjoyable, but it was rather hard to write about. Maybe that’s why I’m really enjoying this new direction Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is taking. The focus on the supernatural and the rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a post-Civil War world has brought a new lease of life to Marvel’s inaugural TV series.

Mama and Papa Pope are back in the Scandal fall finale, but it turns out there's an even bigger threat much closer to the Oval Office. Here’s a look at some of the episode’s most shocking moments:
Return Of The Popes
Maya "Mama Pope" Lewis is back, but still in chains, at the episode's start and, despite her pleas to her daughter to "handle it," Olivia tells Jake Ballard to "charge her and lock her up." After Ballard takes out a hitman who is carrying a playing card with his face on it, the team deduces that Papa Pope is also back in the picture, attempting to tie up loose B613 ends.
"Girl, you need to move on," Olivia’s mother warns when she comes looking for answers to Rowan’s motivations. "All you two do is talk about each other. You’re just like him."

Last night’s explosive Scandal finale pushed the limits of fair play in the crazy world of D.C. manipulation and international terrorism. Yesterday Papa Pope (Joe Morton) told Big Morning Buzz Live host Nick Lachey who he’d want his television daughter to grow old with. So did Olivia choose Fitz or Jake?
Warning: Scandal Season 3 finale spoilers ahead!
Jake, kinda? Olivia is on that plane her father offered to her at the end of last season, with Puppy Dog Ballard by her side. The fallen B6-13 head asked her to walk in the sun with him (swoon) and finally she didn’t fight back. Her phone even rang before takeoff — how cool is it to see “White House” pop up on your screen? — and she had the self-control to let it go. A lot of that has to do with the fact that her boyfriend is damaged goods.

Ahead of the season finale of ABC’s hit series Scandal, Joe Morton sits down with Nick Lachey on Big Morning Buzz Live to decide just who Olivia Pope should end up with: President Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III or Captain Jake Ballard. It’s a tough decision to make considering both characters are portrayed by the hotties, Tony Goldwyn and Scott Foley, respectively. But Morton, who plays Kerry Washington‘s onscreen father, Rowan “Eli” Pope, he’s taking into account a lot more than good looks. Not only are there tons of relationship drama but there’s all the backstories, secret identities, and last-minute twists. On the show, Fitz has just replaced Papa Pope with Jake as the head of B6-13. So Pope has plenty of axes to grind. Morton goes the logical route, by citing B6-13′s regulations that members are not to have families.

AMC has ordered a pilot for a Kevin Smith talk show. The weekly show would adapt Smith’s podcast Hollywood Babble-On for TV which Smith describes as “Entertainment Tonight but filthy.”
Think you’ve seen Kit Harington naked thanks to that Game of Thrones scene in that rock pool? In a GQ profile, Harrington admits that scene featured a butt double. “I had a broken ankle… so the only time you saw my ass, it wasn’t my ass.” Instead a crew member with curly black hair and a great backside was asked to get a haircut to match Harrington and fill in.

Scandal fans know Jeff Perry as the manipulative Cyrus Beene, a man who will stop at nothing to protect President Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant. Halfway through the show's third season, the storylines are getting more outrageous than ever before. Popsugar sat down with Perry to discuss his infamous character's shifting psyche, plot rumors, and the actor's real-life adoration for Kerry Washington. Keep reading to learn more about Perry's perspective, and scroll to the end of the story to watch highlights from our in-studio interview. Popsugar: I think is going to be a very exciting season for Cyrus. Jeff Perry: Cyrus is a man who is hardwired and adores his job, as strange as it is, as a chief of staff. Very much like Olivia Pope's job, played brilliantly by Kerry Washington. Trying to fix everybody else's problems is their DNA. That is their comfort zone. That's what Cyrus loves. In...

More often than not, it's the dysfunctional TV relationships that viewers find themselves cheering for. But for every Damon and Elena or Olivia and Fitz, there's another couple out there that has managed to prove that love can be stable and happy and still be cheer-worthy.
So in honor of Valentine's Day, here's a look at the recent TV relationships that make us love the idea of love.
Ben and Leslie, 'Parks and Recreation'
These two were soulmates from the get-go, and the ways that Ben and Leslie go above and beyond to make one another happy is inspiring. They understand that love requires sacrifice, but that sacrifice doesn't mean they need to end their romance. Also, they show laughter is the best medicine.

A week after learning that "Scandal" was on the hunt for the Grant kids, the roles have been filled.
TVLine reports that Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Mellie's (Bellamy Young) children, Jerry and Karen, will be brought to life by Dylan Minnette and Madeline Carroll.
Both actors have a history with ABC. Minnette recently appeared in an episode of "Agents of Shield" and recurred as Jack Shephard's son on "Lost." He also played Jason Isaacs' son on the short-lived NBC drama "Awake."
Carroll has guest-starred on "Scandal" creator Shonda Rhimes' other series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," as well as also turning in a guest spot on an episode of "Lost."
"Scandal" resumes Season 3 on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC with the 11th episode of 18. The Grant brood will make their debut in Episode 15.
Do you think Minnette and Carroll are the right choice for the Grant children?...

Just when you thought Beyoncé was poised to steal all of the pre-holiday thunder, Jennifer Lawrence continues her streak of being our completely adorable fantasy Bff.
Lawrence appeared on Conan Wednesday night to promote her sexy, ’70s flick American Hustle. Rather than dish on what Christian Bale is like in real life or whether or not Amy Adams is a natural redhead, Lawrence chose to regale the crowd with that awkward moment when a hotel maid found sex toys in her room. “Butt plugs,” to be exact. “Can you just trust me that it’s normal of a story?” she asked. Whatever you saw, Jenny! And how do you like your coffee again? Check out Lawrence’s disclaimer-laden story (“bought as joke” being our favorite) above, and try to think of another–if any–Hollywood star who could talk about butt plugs on national television without instantly being accused of sex addiction.

The dark reason behind Melinda May's nickname was revealed in "Marvel's Agents of Shield" episode 9, "Repairs." Though the story behind "The Cavalry" twisted and morphed over the years, Coulson tells Skye that the incident that caused May to go cold was not a happy one.
According to him, May was a bit like Skye before she found herself in a situation she came out the worst for fixing. No one knows the details of the mission except May (which means it will take until at least the next sweeps period for the audience to find out as well), but Coulson says it caused May to lose herself.
Skye deduces that Coulson is keeping May around to try to warm her up again, and it seems like it's working. The post-credits scene shows that May got in on the aircraft prank war (which has a real-life parallel offscreen) by putting shaving...

In 2007, CBS rejected Babylon Fields, an ahead-of-its-time zombie drama about a town where people rise from the dead and return to their old homes. Now, NBC is giving the series another try according to Deadline. I expect it will have to work to avoid seeming like a copycat of shows that came afterward like In the Flesh and Les Revenants.
It’s official. Ronan Farrow will host a show on MSNBC starting in 2014. Farrow says he wants to create a show that works as “a guide on how people can have agency in the story”. In the meantime, expect to see more of Farrow on MSNBC.

Last night, South Park missed an air date for ths first time in 240 episodes due to a power outage the previous night that made it impossible to get those last-minute touches done.

Shonda Rhimes is a busy lady, but when she's not working on her two hit ABC dramas, "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal," she's trying to calm the masses on Twitter who scream questions at her in all caps and then get angry when they don't like the answers. It's funny to watch it unfold, time and time again, but mostly that level of passionate fandom is a testament to the characters Rhimes has created on both series.
HuffPost TV caught up with Rhimes at ABC's Television Critics Association Summer 2013 cocktail party on Sunday to try to help quell some of the Internet anger happening in the off-season.
But as you "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" fans can attest again, no answers will ever appease everyone. So, read on to hear her thoughts -- about everything from the "wonderful" Scott Foley hatred and more "Scandal" twists to come in Season 3, to Calzona-related rants from "Grey's" fans and more.

We’ve reached that glorious time of year when the networks start letting loose with screeners of returning shows’ season premieres. Here, quickly, are 12 not-at-all-spoilery observations about what’s new with Olivia and her gladiators.

The White Stripes may have called it quits earlier this year, but we’ve seen and heard plenty from former frontman Jack White since their demise. Adding yet another eccentric appearance to the list is word that White will appear on the History Channel’s “American Pickers” next week.
The show is admittedly addictive, following two friends/business partners as they scour various barns, homes and junkyards across the country in search of hidden antiques. The episode is set to air at 9Pm Est on January 9 and will feature pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fitz as they visit White’s Third Man Studios and label home in Nashville. The two will reportedly barter with the music icon over memorabilia, which will include the photo booth used in the music video for “Hang You From the Heavens” by one of White’s many musical projects, The Dead Weather.

Happy Towel Day! I hope all of you have been spending your day in appreciation of the genius of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Discussion question for the evening: has the emergence of tablet PCs and the iPad give us actual Hitchhiker's Guides? Hell, even smart phones at this point have given us the ability to access a wealth of information and directions from virtually anywhere. Well, anywhere with cell service so depending on which carrier you're with... whenever you're near a major city or suburban area if you're lucky. The bottom line is that I really want a cover for my cell phone that says "Don't Panic" on it in large, friendly looking letters. Here's your Wednesday night TV:
8:00pm: "American Idol" on Fox. 127 minute 10th season finale. Because a two hour long season finale just wasn't enough, those extra seven minutes are life or death Crucial...

As most of you who read this site regularly know, I'm not a huge fan of reality TV. Even the few reality shows that I like (usually things like "Top Chef" where there's a clear goal and a certain level of ability is required among the participants) I get bored with really quickly. I'm pretty certain that all the reality TV shows on television right now could disappear and I probably wouldn't notice except that Pajiba After Dark would get way shorter certain nights. However, reality TV seems to love me. Since I moved to Miami more and more reality series are being filmed here, which led to me actually encountering part of the cast of "Jersey Shore" while out one night which is, thus far, the closest I have come to the proverbial sausage being made. Tomorrow morning or mostly likely later this evening, I will be getting closer...
