Jonathan Friedland

Jonathan Friedland is an award-winning journalist, corporate communications specialist and marketing advisor. He started his career as a journalist, working for over 20 years as bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal and The Far Eastern Economic Review. He was part of the Wall Street Journal team that won the Pulitzer Prize for its coverage after the events on September 11th. He has also won Inter-American Press Association awards twice for his reporting in Latin America. He then moved into corporate communications, first as the SVP of Corporate Communications at The Walt Disney Co. and then as the Chief Communications Officer at Netflix.
Most recently, since 2019, Mr. Friedland has created Octagonal Hall LLC, a company which advises on the rapid scale of global brand marketing, public policy and communication teams. He has worked, through Octagonal Hall, with the world's leading digital platform DiDi Chuxing, with China's short video and live streaming platform Kuaishou Technology, with the U.S. film and TV studio Blumhouse and many others.
Mr. Friedland serves on the board of TreePeople, a Los Angeles-based environmental NGO, and he has been a senior fellow of the Edward Murrow Center at the Fletcher School of Diplomacy at Tufts University.
