América Móvil general director Daniel Hajj has announced that Carlos Slim’s Mexican conglomerate plans to invest $8.5 billion in Latin American in 2019, focusing primarily on fiber-optic infrastructure and updated mobile technologies such as 4.5G and 5gG.
In a conference call with analysts, following the company’s recap of fourth quarter results, Hajj laid out the company’s intentions, while also stating that the company is planning to provide triple-play services in Mexico.
During the fourth quarter of 2018, América Móvil recorded a net profit of $492.4 million, reversing losses of $546.4 million over that same period in 2017, according to the company’s financial and operating report.

Last December, Gabriel Contreras, president of the Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (Ift), indicated that a subsidiary of América Móvil had applied for a license to provide pay TV services.

Mexican telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim trimmed his holdings in the New York Times Co., selling roughly half of his investment this month at a price of just about $240 million. With the stock up enormously over the last year, the sell-off means a massive windfall for Slim — already one of the richest people on Earth. The news was first reported by Bloomberg, which noted a relatively unremarkable public release from Slim’s company earlier this month. Slim first became an investor in the Times in 2009, when he loaned the company $250 million to help get it past the financial crisis. He...

New York (AP) — Larry King said Thursday that his talk show will resume this summer on the new digital network Ora.TV, earlier than he or the network had anticipated.
The show "Larry King Now" will mark the startup of the network financed by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. Executives had originally intended to launch in the fall.
But King said he wanted to "get into the political mix." The Democratic and Republican national conventions to name presidential nominees are this summer.
King said he expected the format of his show to be similar to "Larry King Live," which aired on CNN in prime time for 25 years, and he's retained much of his old production staff. The new show will generally be 30 minutes in length, instead of an hour, although there will be flexibility to go shorter or longer depending on who's being interviewed, said Jon Housman, Ora.TV's CEO.
