After much anticipation, the sequel to the 2017 sketch “Papyrus 2” has finally emerged despite being cut for time during the live broadcast, making its debut on YouTube.
The original sketch was conceived by former “SNL” writer Julio Torres, who was inspired by a past tweet in which he mused, “Every day I wake up and remember that Avatar, a huge international blockbuster, used the Papyrus font for their logo, and no one stopped them.”
Directed by Dave McCary (who also shot the previously pointed Torres sketch “Wells For Boys” with his now-wife and current collaborator Emma Stone), this meditation on obsession and a questionable font became the logo for James Cameron’s massive franchise.
Gosling recalled the (alleged) decision-making process of choosing the font papyrus for the blockbuster, in the past sketch, “Like a thoughtless child just wandering by a garden, just yanking leaves along the way.” Eventually, his character would...

NBC’s The Voice Season 25 is here, and fans are embracing the judges this season. Reba McEntire returned for her second season as a full-time coach, and John Legend and Chance the Rapper rejoined to judge alongside McEntire. Additionally, newcomers Dan + Shay became the first duo judges to join the series. Unfortunately, sources claim that the show creators are “freezing” McEntire’s pay due to budget cuts.
‘The Voice’ creators are reportedly ‘freezing’ Reba McEntire’s pay
The Voice Season 25 features some of the best judges the show’s ever had. Unfortunately, sources claim that the series creators plan to make budget cuts that will likely impact the judges’ pay. Reba McEntire is reportedly getting the biggest payout per individual judge, so she’ll certainly feel the effects of a “talent budget” cut.
“There is a substantial trimming of costs and ways of looking at not increasing spending,” an NBC contractor told The Sun.

Jordan Wiseley is among The Challenge greats, with three wins on the main show and another in the spinoff, The Challenge: World Championship.
He’s become known for overcoming obstacles, including some difficult gameplay from his castmates in War of the Worlds 2.
That season, Jordan was part of Team USA along with other stars, including Leroy Garrett, Zach Nichols, Paulie Calafiore, and Cara Maria Sorbello.
Jordan’s girlfriend and then-fiancee, Tori Deal, was also part of the team until both chose to “defect” to Team UK.
The season included a memorable moment as Jordan proposed to Tori before he defected to Team UK. During the footage, Cara Maria also made a snarky remark doubting their relationship.
On a recent Zach Nichols Podcast, Jordan addressed Cara’s remarks about the season during her The Challenge: Home Turf episode.

SNL alum Kyle Mooney previously made his debut as a feature screenwriter with the indie dramedy Brigsby Bear, and now he’s making the leap to the director’s chair with the A24 pic Y2K. Although the film is uneven, the comedic highs are enough to compensate for the somewhat generic nostalgia-bait storytelling.
Y2K tells the story of a group of teenagers who go to a wild party on the eve of the new millennium, only for things to get even wilder when the world threatens to end. It’s an ingenious concept, and while it takes a bit of time for the movie to hit its stride, Mooney and Evan Winter’s script eventually becomes an entertaining, wacky adventure.
The first half of the film is incredibly annoying. It’s the type of cringe comedy that tries to get laughs by saying, “Look at how stupid we were 25 years ago!

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, better known as the country duo Dan + Shay, are making waves on The Voice Season 25. Smyers and Mooney are the first duo set of coaches that The Voice has ever had, and they’ve come a long way through the years. They previously had a public falling out that nearly resulted in the complete deterioration of Dan + Shay — and their quarreling affected their marriages.

December 31, 1999. Those old enough to remember know what a strange time that was. It was a time filled with excitement, anxiety, and uncertainty around what was going to happen when the clock struck midnight and a new millennium would begin.
Director Kyle Mooney and writer Evan Winter take that momentous evening and absolutely run with it in the insane nostalgia-filled comedy Y2K.
Y2K was nothing like I was expecting. If this is a film you are interested in seeing, and you religiously watched Total Request Live on MTV and know every word to “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain, I would probably recommend you stop reading this review right now and see this movie the first opportunity you get.
Mooney, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, made his directorial debut with Brigsby Bear in 2017. The film was one of my favorites of the year as it combined awkward humour with incredible sincerity.

“What if the Y2K bug was real” feels like such an obvious concept that it’s surprising that it took so long to come up with it. At its best, the teen horror comedy Y2K will make you feel glad that Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter were the first to the punch. Displaying the shaggy looseness of sketch comedy, the film regards its setting with an irony-free attention to detail as it keys itself to the vibes of people who came of age before the new millennium started and would give anything to live it over again, with or without killer robots.
It’s New Year’s Eve 1999, and shy teenage nerd Eli (Jaeden Martell) is more worried about making an impression on his cool-girl crush, Laura (Rachel Zegler), than he is about the approaching millennium and what it might bring. After hitting up the video store with his gregarious best bud,...

A disaster horror comedy that’s equal parts Can’t Hardly Wait and Idle Hands, Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut Y2K is often hilariously sincere in its depiction of social and technological anxieties from the tail end of 1999. Mooney remembers all too well a world where promises of connectivity had not quite caught up with the technology. For those that were not ’90s kids, your mileage may vary and the premise of Y2K might seem confounding: why would a computer system rolling back the clock to 1900 be an issue?
Of course, the anxiety was very real––as documented in Brian Becker and Marley McDonald’s recent HBO documentary Time Bomb Y2K and in stickers from Best Buy telling consumers to shut their computer off before the clock strikes midnight. Mooney’s version bursts with the absurd creativity of a teenager sketching out a wild comic book scenario with...

Did 12th District tribute Lucy Gray Baird really die at the end of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes?
Rachel Zegler would like to quote Olivia Rodrigo, who provided the end credits song for the $337M-plus grossing fall hit, “Can’t Catch Me Now”: “She’s in the trees, she’s in the breeze.”
“I for one, like to believe she’s alive,” says Zegler.
Zegler was at Deadline’s SXSW studio for her A24 apocalyptic comedy, Y2K, directed by SNL alum Kyle Mooney which made its world premiere in Austin, TX on Saturday night.
Mooney interjected about the potential for a Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2, “I will say she’s in fact, coming back.”
Added Y2K scribe Evan Winter, “She is in the post credits scene of our movie.”

In what could almost be a weird pop-cultural physics phenomenon, people keep making youth nostalgia movies that highlight a particular moment, an iconic time period that everyone who grew up in it remembers with transcendent fondness — yet the distance between the moment and the movie commemorating it keeps getting longer and longer. “American Graffiti,” the movie that invented the genre, was set in 1962 and came out 11 years later, in 1973. “Dazed and Confused” was set in 1976 and came out 17 years later, in 1993. “Adventureland” was set in 1987 and came out 22 years later, in 2009. And now we have “Y2K,” an end-of-the-millennium high-school party movie that premiered last night at SXSW. It’s set on the last day (and the day after) of 1999, and it’s coming out 25 years later. When somebody ultimately makes a youth nostalgia movie set in 2024, it probably won’t come out until 2054.

AOL Instant Messenger. Nintendo 64. Sisqo’s “The Thong Song.” Nu Metal and all things Limp.
If you understood any of the above words, chances are you remember the turn of the millennium with fondness, as well as a degree of cringe. But if you don’t know these ancient relics, you probably still recognize the youthful and eagerly game faces that director Kyle Mooney has cast in his directorial debut, Y2K. Either way, the former SNL alumni has bet heavily on cultivating retro good vibes for his house party of a horror-comedy, and after watching the film at its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival this weekend, it’s safe to say the thing rages, even if with all the grace and style of a suburbanite scrub.

‘Y2K’ Review: Rachel Zegler in a Sci-Fi Comedy That Offers Lots of ’90s Nostalgia, but Not Much Else
The shrill drone of dial-up is a defining feature of Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut Y2K, even if the actual sound plays only a few times throughout the comedian’s brash and lopsided film. The jagged melody of low-toned hums and static interludes not only captures the possibility of the late ’90s and early aughts; it also represents the anxiety provoked by the turn of the new millennium.
In the years leading up to the year 2000, rumors swirled about a bug that would wreak havoc on computer systems around the world. The extent of this potential damage was never entirely clear — millions of dollars could be lost, total mayhem might ensue — but the real panic it inspired revealed how reliant humans had become on technology to facilitate all aspects of their lives. In Y2K, Mooney and his co-writer Evan Winter wonder what would happen if the threat had been real.

In "Y2K," director Kyle Mooney recreates December 31, 1999 with such a specific but deliberately broad brush that it recalls the vision of the 1950s in "Back to the Future." A specific moment in time, simultaneously captured and reduced in such a manner to sell the younger folks on the setting while making the older folks do the "Leonardo DiCaprio finger point meme" every five seconds. Millennials may wince once they realize the era of their childhood has now become period piece fodder, their entire childhood now an alien enough world to require very specific production design, but it'll only happen after they've giggled in recognition and appreciation. Mooney's film assumes its target audience was alive and aware at the turn of the century, and gears its best jokes accordingly.

Ah, Y2K. The millennium bug that induced widespread fear over the possibility of a worldwide infrastructure crash once 2000 arrived becomes infectious fodder for a teen comedy infused with horror and nostalgia. Armed with a pitch-perfect, game-for-anything ensemble and great practical effects behind the carnage and calamity, A24’s latest offers up the most entertaining, funny-bone-tickling apocalyptic scenario since This Is the End.
Comedian and actor Kyle Mooney, who co-wrote the script with writer/producer Evan Winter, makes his directorial debut here. He kicks Y2K off with a potent dose of dial-up nostalgia as it sets the stage for one unpredictable 1999 New Year’s Eve party from hell. Shy teen Eli has an easier time connecting with his unrequited crush Laura (Rachel Zegler) over AOL, despite his extraverted best friend Danny’s constant nudging and encouragement to finally make a move. From the widespread fear that the repeal of Net Neutrality would eventually force us to pay a dollar for every Google search to the misguided belief that Matt Patricia would turn the Detroit Lions into an equally fearsome version of Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots dynasty, recent human history is filled with incorrect predictions and wild overreactions. But few false alarms rang louder than the Y2K frenzy, in which much of the world spent 1999 panicking that the new millennium would cause the technology that powered our society to instantly stop working once years started with 20 instead of 19. The fear was grounded in some semblance of reality, but any potential catastrophe was averted when the world’s top computer programmers worked together to resolve the problem before we closed the book on the 20th century.

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst donned his turn-of-the-millennium apparel for the SXSW world premiere of “Y2K,” the Kyle Mooney-directed teen disaster comedy in which the rapper plays himself.
“Y2K” follows two high schoolers who crash a New Year’s Eve party on the last night of 1999 when they realize that the projected computer apocalypse is actually happening before their eyes. Claudette Godfrey, president of SXSW Film and TV, introduced the film by joking that it was an honest depiction of what happened that night.
Then, in a post-screening Q&a when Godfrey asked Durst how he celebrated Y2K, he committed to the bit. “Dude, are you trolling me?” he asked. “This is the A24 24th year celebration of surviving Y2K. What the fuck is going on here? We’re all survivors, right?”
The other answers to Godfrey’s question were less illustrious, as stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell,...

Do you remember where you were on New Year’s 2000? Were you home wondering if all the electronics in your home were going to short circuit? Kyle Mooney explores an alternative to what happened on that day in his directorial debut Y2K. His unique comedic voice and offbeat humor have prepared him for this ambitious project that emerges as a striking commentary on the intersection of technology, generational angst and the human spirit. Mooney, alongside co-writer Evan Winter, crafts a narrative that is at once a love letter to the turn of the millennium and a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked technological advancement.

Thames TV’s Rainbow was the ordinary, everyday tale of Geoffrey: a grown man who turned his back on family life and a fulfilling career in favour of living in a primary-coloured nightmare with an assortment of irascible talking animals and polyamorous troubadours. There was Bungle, a moody, stroppy wet-blanket of a bear who spent the day naked but inexplicably donned pyjamas at night-time; George, a passive-aggressive pink hippo who hid his Machiavellian evil and simmering sexuality behind a façade of lash-fluttering shyness; and Zippy, a… a… erm… (whatever the hell Zippy was) hellraiser with a rugby-ball head who enjoyed hurling hand grenades of mischief into every interaction. Whenever we think of Rainbow, it’s this cast of four main characters that comes to mind, but they weren’t the original quartet, and neither would they close out the show’s long run on television.

The One Direction singer got his start with The Voice in season 23 and won, making an early name for himself as a tough coach to beat. Fans were delighted to see him return for season 24. But it looks like he didn’t necessarily receive a pay bump after his inaugural season.

With so many A24 items looking for 2024 positioning, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle Mooney‘s feature debut waits for the next train to pass but we kinda like what a Park City premiere might do for the film. Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Alicia Silverstone, Fred Hechinger and Daniel Zolghadri populate what is bring coined as a disaster comedy. Production on Y2K would have taken place in New Jersey around the month of April. Mooney needs no introduction to most because of his work with SNL, but it’s worth mentioning that the actor, comedian, writer, producer was one of the co-writers on Dave McCary’s Brigsby Bear (2017) – a Sundance and Cannes selection.…...

Model Maleesa Mooney’s death was ruled a homicide after autopsy reports showed that she was found dead inside her refrigerator. Her death has officially been ruled as “homicidal violence.”
Authorities found Mooney in her apartment in downtown Los Angeles on September 12.
She was beaten, gagged and bound before the perpetrator stuffed her body into a refrigerator.

Model Maleesa Mooney was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment on September 12, two days after the death of Nichole Coats.
Coats, also a model, was found dead in her apartment in the same area of the city.
Mooney’s death has been listed as “deferred,” but the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office cited “Cause A” as “homicidal violence.”
Mooney’s sister, Jordan Pauline, also a model, told Ktla she believes her sister’s death was listed as “deferred” because the victim was so badly beaten it was difficult to determine the exact cause of death.
“I can’t imagine what my sister went through and it pains me to even think about it,” she said.
Pauline went on to reveal that Mooney was two months pregnant at the time of death.

Eddie Murphy has always been open about the respect he has for late comic Richard Pryor. But Murphy’s admiration for Pryor might’ve grown even more after Pryor defended him against two other comic legends.
Richard Pryor told these comic veterans to apologize to Eddie Murphy for their behavior Eddie Murphy | Matt Winkelmeyer/FilmMagic
Murphy and Pryor even met a couple of times. One of the fondest memories the Nutty Professor star had of Pryor was when the comic came to his defense. Back in his much younger days, Murphy was on the cusp of his career breakthrough. He recalled doing standup at The Comedy Store in the 80s, sharing the same building with comedians Paul Mooney and John Witherspoon.
“I was like first-year SNL and I was killing, and I was like, ‘They’re giving me the light?’ I was only up for 10 minutes,’” Murphy said on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Los Angeles police are investigating the deaths of two models, who were both found dead in their apartments just two days apart.
Nichole Coats, 32, was found dead on September 10 by her father and aunt when they went to check in on her after days of zero contact. The last time they had any communication with Coats was on September 8, when she told them she was going out with someone.
Coats’ aunt, May Stevens, told Ktla that she believes her niece’s death was a murder as she said she couldn’t recognize Coats and was found with her legs in a kicking position.
“I don’t know who she went out with or what transpired there. I have no idea but I’m going to find out,” said Sharon, Coats’ mother. “So if you’re out there, you’re going to get caught. You’re messing with the wrong person.

Dubai, July 18 (Ians) Australia batter Beth Mooney piped Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu to regain the top spot in the women’s Odi players ranking released on Tuesday.
Athapaththu’s reign at the top of the Odi batters rankings lasted just two weeks as she slipped to third with 758 rating points and Mooney climbed to top with 769 ratings.
Mooney was among the runs in the first two ODIs against England with scores of 81 not out and 33 as Australia regained the Ashes with a win in the second match of the series.
Following the Australian closely is England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt, who almost stole victory from the hands of Australia in the second Odi with a stunning 111 not out off 99 balls. Despite her knock going in vain, Sciver-Brunt moved up two spots to No.2 and a career-best rating of 763.

London, July 9 (Ians) England beat Australia by five wickets via Dls method in a rain-affected third and final T20I to win the series 2-1 at Lord’s and keep their slim hopes of winning the multi-format Women’s Ashes 2023 alive, here on late Saturday night.

While “You” Season 5 won’t be hitting Netflix for a while, Penn Badgley is tiding over fans by teasing that some unresolved business from Joe’s past escapades will return for the final season of the thriller series.
“I’ve heard you’re on the edge of your seats waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to ‘You,'” Badgley said in a video that played during Netflix’s Tudum Global Fan Event hosted Saturday from São Paulo, Brazil. “More importantly, you’re considering what, or should I say who, Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York.”
“Though I can’t say who just yet, we all know there are many loose ends from Joe’s past,” Badgley continued, as the clip flashed to Marienne locked in Joe’s cage in London during his psychotic break in Season 4.

Wherever Joe Goldberg goes, his glass cage follows. As "You" progresses through its four seasons, the baseball-cap-wearing serial killer moves from New York to Los Angeles to (the fictional) Madre Linda to London, trapping many of his victims in a transparent chamber at each new locale. When Joe's cage reemerges in season four with a wide-eyed Marienne Bellamy locked inside, my first thoughts were, "Hold up, how the hell did this thing make it all the way from California to England in one piece? Did it travel by plane? Boat? Did Joe get Tsa PreCheck for it?" With these questions pestering me and many other fans, I did a deep dive to dissect what I'm formally referring to as "The Mysterious Case of Joe Goldberg's World-Traveling Glass Cage."

Mumbai, March 4 (Ians) Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s impressive fifty (65 off 30), followed by Saika Ishaque’s sensational four-fer (4/11) led Mumbai Indians to a dominant 143-run victory over Gujarat Giants in the opening match of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) 2023 at the Dr Dy Patil Sports Academy, here on Saturday.
Kaur’s historic fifty powered Mumbai Indians to an imposing 207 for five in 20 overs. Apart from Harmanpreet, Amelia Kerr (45 not out off 24) and Hayley Matthews (47 off 31) also played valuable knocks for Mi.
Chasing a huge total, Gujarat batters had immense pressure on Gujarat and they crumbled under that. With Mooney getting injured in the first over, they were already staring down the barrel.
Very soon Gujarat lost four wickets inside the powerplay which completely pushed them back. They couldn’t recover from there. Only two batters got into the double digits, with Dayalan Hemalatha being the top-scorer beat Gujarat Giants Innings 64-9 in 15.1 overs by 143 runs.
