Brian Stelter signed off in his final airing of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” Sunday with a message to the network and its viewers.
“I believe America needs CNN to be strong,” the CNN host said. “And they will continue to be, because all of us are going to help make that happen. The free world needs a reliable source.”
This Sunday’s show marks the final episode of the morning talk show that has been on the air since 1992, as Stelter exits CNN in a move announced Thursday.

Updated with video: President Donald Trump pretty much secured the main talking point for this week’s Real Time With Bill Maher after a Wednesday press conference in which Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the November election to Joe Biden.
The topic of the concern over whether Trump would refuse to vacate the White House peacefully has been front and center for Maher for almost two years. It came up time and time again in Friday night’s show, from pressing Sen. Bernie Sanders on what a plan might look like if Trump declined to exit in January if Biden wins, to clear frustration that it’s taken “mainstream media” outlets so long to catch up to his concerns.

As startling as it was to hear President Donald Trump refuse to commit to a peaceful transfer of power in this year’s election, what was surprising was how he came to make the remark.
Responding to a question from Playboy’s Brian Karem on Wednesday, Trump said: “We’re going to have to see what happens. You know that. I have been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster.” Watch their exchange below.
The president’s answer quickly dominated cable news coverage, drew sharp rebuke from his Democratic rival Joe Biden and eventually saw a number of Senate Republicans push back — albeit without using Trump’s name.
By Thursday afternoon, the consternation over the remark became so great that the Senate passed a resolution by unanimous consent reaffirming that, after November 3, there would be a peaceful transfer of power.

Donald Trump would not commit to a peaceful transition of power after the election, again blaming the use of mail-in ballots in the upcoming election.
At a press conference, Playboy correspondent Brian Karem asked Trump whether he would commit to a peaceful transition, no matter which way the election goes.
“We’re going to have to see what happens. You know that. I have been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster,”
Then Karen followed up. “I understand that. But people are rioting. Do you commit to making sure that there will be a peaceful transition of power?”
“Get rid of the ballots and you will have a very peaceful…there won’t be a transfer, frankly. There will be a continuation. The ballots are out of control. You know it, and you know who knows it better than anybody else? The Democrats know if better than anybody else.

A federal appeals court ruled Friday that the White House wrongly suspended the hard pass of Playboy’s correspondent Brian Karem after a raucous incident in July in which he got into an argument with Donald Trump’s former aide Sebastian Gorka following a Rose Garden ceremony.
A three judge panel of the D.C. circuit ruled unanimously to uphold a lower court ruling in favor of Karem, concluding that he “lacked fair notice that the White House might punish his purportedly unprofessional conduct by suspending his hard pass for a month.”
On Sept. 3, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras granted Karem’s motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction. He found that then-White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham’s rationale for revoking the pass was too vague.
The appellate justices agreed.

Brian Karem has again come up the winner in a legal fight that commenced when the Trump Administration attempted to suspend his press access to White House grounds. On Friday, the D.C. At one short moment in President Donald Trump’s coronavirus briefing on Monday, he was asked about reports that some states saw a spike in poison control calls after his suggesting that perhaps human ingestion of disinfectants would be a way of combating the coronavirus.
“I can’t imagine why,” Trump said, as he tried to move on to the next question.
When Playboy‘s Brian Karem pressed him on whether he takes responsibility for it, Trump said, “No, I don’t.”

The White House is appealing a federal judge’s decision from earlier this month to restore the hard pass of Playboy’s correspondent Brian Karem.
The Trump administration suspended Karem’s credentials after a raucous incident in July in which he got in argument with former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka following a Rose Garden ceremony.
The notice of appeal was filed Friday in federal court in Washington. Karem’s attorneys and those of the administration also filed a joint motion to stay the proceedings pending the appeal.
On Sept. 3, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras granted Karem’s motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction. He found that White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham’s rationale for revoking the pass was too vague.
“White House events appear to vary greatly in character,” Contreras wrote in his opinion. “Thus, without any contextual guideposts, ‘professionalism,’ standing alone, remains too murky to provide fair notice here.

3Rd Update with lawsuit filed: Playboy senior White House correspondent and CNN contributor Brian Karem filed a lawsuit Tuesday against President Donald Trump and White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham over the suspension of his White House “hard pass” credential last week.
The filing (read it here) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia called the defendants’ revoking of Karem’s pass “arbitrary, unlawful, and unconstitutional,” and his Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher Llp lawyers asked the court for a temporary restraining order to restore his credential immediately.
The lawsuit over the suspension, which stems from a July confrontation in the Rose Garden with former White House aide Sebastian Gorka, marks the second by a White House journalist in a year, following CNN’s Jim Acosta’s suit last November. Karem is also a CNN analyst, and claimed the Rose Garden argument was a mere pretext to revoke his credentials.

President Donald Trump ripped CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta on Wednesday, calling him a “terrible person” to his face after the journalist repeatedly questioned him in an East Room press conference the day after the midterm elections.
“CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN,” the president said as Acosta stammered. “The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible. The way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way.”

President Donald Trump held a press conference Wednesday to explain his view of what the 2018 midterms meant. In an often dry rundown of numbers and statistics, Trump took a moment to name-drop Oprah Winfrey and commend her for her tough campaigning on behalf of Georgia’s democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
“People … worked very very hard respectfully for those candidates, like Oprah Winfrey, who I like. I don’t know if she likes me anymore but that’s ok. She used to,” said Trump. “But she worked very hard in Georgia. Very very hard.”
