When I was first introduced to NFL player Spencer Paysinger through my good friend and colleague Dane Morck, I found myself living April's closing line. Spencer and I were different. For starters, I'll state the obvious, he is a ...

The CW has made the bulk of its first pilot-to-series orders of the season. The network has ordered two reboots, Charmed, from Jane the Virgin creator-showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and CBS TV Studios; and Roswell, New Mexico (fka Roswell) from The Originals scribe Carina Adly MacKenzie. Also picked up are In the Dark, from CBS TV Studios and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films; All American (fka untitled April Blair/Spencer Paysinger) from writer April Blair, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods., L.A. Galaxy soccer player Robbie Rogers and Warner Bros. TV.
A late entrant in the race, Julie Plec’s new project set in The Vampire Diaries/The Originals universe, Legacies, also scored a series order. I hear it came down to that and the Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters, and the network opted to go with Legacies based off a script by Plec and encouraged by the solid ratings...

Also earning pickups are “In the Dark,” “All American,” and “Legacies.”
CW’s new roster for the coming season is once again heavy on fantasy and supernatural themes. “All American” is a departure in telling the culture-clash story of a high school football player from South Los Angeles who is recruited to play for a school in Beverly Hills. Penned by April Blair, “All American” adds another show to the CW roster of exec producer Greg Berlanti, who scored two drama series pickups from CBS earlier today.
The new spin on “Charmed,” which ran from 1998 to 2008 on the WB Network and CW, hails from “Jane the Virgin” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin.

The CW is moving forward with its in-the-works Roswell reboot, placing a pilot order for a new one-hour series set in the infamous UFO town. The pickup comes just days after the network commissioned a pilot for an update of another WB classic, Charmed.
All told, The CW ordered six new pilots on Wednesday. In addition to Roswell 2.0 — which is being penned by Originals scribe Carina Adly MacKenzie — the network gave the green light to an adaptation of the novel Skinny Dip, the mortuary-esque dramedy Playing Dead, and the alien thriller The End of the World as We Know It.
