From the moment The Haunted Mask hit TV screens one chilly October afternoon in 1995, Goosebumps fans the world over knew that a movie was only a matter of time.
Those were the days of Goosebumps bedding sets, green and purple wrist watches bathed in cobwebs and time spent begging parents for the $8.95 (plus $2 shipping and handling) so that one might join the hallowed, card-carrying ranks of the Official Goosebumps Fan Club. Bookmobiles everywhere overflowed with copies of Night of the Living Dummy II and The Barking Ghost and the silver screen was ripe for the kind of wicked playfulness and fiendish glee that only R.L. Stine could deliver.
But adolescent aficionados of the spooky and the strange never saw their dream of a 90s big screen Goosebumps adventure realized. Monster kids grew into horror loving adults before Slappy and his gang of sinister monstrosities escaped the pages of R.L.

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from “Swagger” Season 2, now streaming on AppleTV+.
As Reggie Rock Bythewood was gearing up for AppleTV+’s second season of “Swagger,” the filmmaker was thinking about how to elevate the series and take it to another level.
One film that came to mind was Sam Mendes’ “1917” and how cinematographer Roger Deakins had shot the film and presented it as if it were one continuous long shot.
The series follows a team of basketball players inspired by NBA star Kevin Durant and in the latest “maze,” as Bythewood calls it, the team down to six players, Jace (Isaiah R. Hill), Phil (Solomon Irama), Musa (Caleel Harris), Drew, Royale (Ozie Nzeribe), and Nick (Jason Rivera) head to Maryland’s Youth Facility, a detention center for young offenders for a game. “I thought about ‘1917’ and the entire film is shot as if it were one shot.

The second season of Swagger will debut on Apple TV+ in June. The streamer announced the news Wednesday, along with a few first look images of the cast.
The images don’t give much away, showing a few moments with star Isaiah Hill’s character Jace Carson. One appears to be on the court after a game with O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s Ike, a former star player-turned-youth basketball coach. Another image appears to be a more tender interaction between Jace and Quvenzhané Wallis’ Crystal.
Season 2 comes just under two years after the premiere of the first installment, which prompted a bit of a time jump to accommodate the aging of the younger cast, as well usher in a more compelling storyline, creator, showrunner and director Reggie Rock Bythewood said during Apple TV+’s Television Critics Association panel.

Much like its main rising basketball phenom, “Swagger” has all the skills it needs. At the outset of the new Apple TV+ drama, we’re introduced to Jace Carson (Isaiah Hill), a touted 14-year-old Maryland prep prospect who can show off his ball-handling skills and a cradle dunk all in a single take without the disguise of camera trickery. Soon, he gets a coach in former phenom Ike Edwards And Jace has a fiercely devoted mother in Jenna (Shinelle Azoroh), who considering this show is based on the early experiences of Kevin Durant is destined for her own special recognition at some point in the future.
It doesn’t happen right away, but the longer the series’ opening season goes, the more it figures out how to utilize all the tools at its disposal. “Swagger” is so concerned with setting up Jace’s stakes from the get-go that the early...
