- Justin majored in Composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2010. From there he received a Professional Certificate from the Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television (SMPTV) program at the University of Southern California in 2011, and proceeded to start working in the film, TV, and multimedia industry. - Justin worked in Berlin and Leipzig twice for the film Cloud Atlas - For a month in 2011 to help arrange and orchestrate music written prior to shooting, and again for two more months in 2012 for the final score.
- Justin's orchestral work "Trebia: Transitus Hannibalis" won the UCSB Primavera Orchestral Competition, and received an Honorary Mention Corwin Award in 2009, competing with undergrad and graduate students. He had not yet had any official training in orchestration at that time.
