Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry was killed in a helicopter crash on Friday afternoon.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00 p.m. today in Medford, New Jersey,” the band said in a statement on their Facebook page.
The 50-year-old country star was scheduled to perform with bandmate Eddie Montgomery at the Flying W Airport and Resort in Medford on Friday evening, and the concert was canceled immediately.
“Details of the crash are unknown,” the post continues.

The second annual American Country Awards have announced their nominations - Jason Aldean and Zac Brown Band lead the noms with eight apiece; Thompson Square earned seven and The Band Perry and Taylor Swift each received six nominations. "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery also earned a nomination for Best New Artist.
Fans can vote once each day at www.theacas.com. Voting is open until Friday, Nov. 11. The awards, which are hosted by Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth, air in a two-hour live show from Las Vegas Monday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. Et on Fox.

Nashville, Tenn (Reuters) - Acting as a celebrity coach on NBC's hit talent show "The Voice" reminds Blake Shelton of his own rise from star-struck Oklahoma teenager to country music star.
Shelton came to Nashville at age 17, idolizing Travis Tritt and Paul Overstreet and imagining Nashville's famed Music Row as an impregnable fortress of towering skyscrapers.
"I figured out what makes this industry work, what makes the world turn here in Nashville, and it's record sales. It's one thing to hear yourself on radio, it's another for people to go buy your music," the 35-year-old Shelton told Reuters
New York Times' music critic Jon Caramanica recently wrote of Shelton, "Apart from perhaps Taylor Swift, he's becoming the most important and visible ambassador from Nashville to the American mainstream."
Told this, Shelton offered a quick "aw-shucks" reply. But he then gave a considered view of his career path...

It was the 10th anniversary of the Cmt Music Awards, which awards the best in music videos for country music every year. Taylor Swift took home the big prize of Video of the Year for her "Mine" video. She gave her acceptance speech live from a tour stop in Milwaukee.
Newlyweds Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton also earned some awards. Miranda won Female Video of the Year, while Blake Shelton earned Male Video of the Year and also Web Video of the Year, which is a new category in 2011.
Justin Bieber also took home a Cmt award for his collaboration with Rascal Flatts on "That Should Be Me."
