Exclusive: Jennifer Garner (Alias) is set to star with fellow Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird) in true-crime movie Fruitcake.
Max Winkler is directing the true story about Sandy and Kay Jenkins, a seemingly upstanding middle-class couple who went on to embezzle millions from popular Texas-based business Collin Street Bakery. Hauser will play Sandy — an unassuming accountant who was funneling large sums of money into his accounts and credit card bills to support a lavish lifestyle, including expensive jewelry, private jet trips and a second home in New Mexico — while Garner will play his wife, Kay.
Based on the Texas Monthly article “Just Desserts” by Katy Vine, who will serve as a consultant, the 2016 Black List screenplay is written by Trey Selman and produced by Red Sanders at Texas-based Red Entertainment along with Trey Selman.

Fruitcake is the true story of Sandy and Kay Jenkins, a seemingly upstanding middle-class couple, who achieved the American dream after Sandy used his job as an accountant to embezzle $17 million from Collin Street Bakery, the world-famous fruitcake company based in Corsicana, Texas. Ferrell will play Sandy and Dern will play Kay.
Jordan Horowitz, Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons will produce along with Adam Kolbrenner and Red Sanders. Eclipse’s Benedict Carver and Daniel Diamond will executive produce, together with Collin Street president and CEO Bob McNutt.
“Trey’s writing is original and dynamic and unlike any I’ve read before,” said Winkler, “and I’m deeply excited to help tell this story along with two of my favorite actors working today.
