The Seasoning House has been highly anticipated by fans of British horror. It’s the directorial debut of Paul Hyett, special effects artist who has worked on such recent favorites as The Descent and Woman In Black. It has played at a variety of international festivals and advance buzz has been exciting:
“Hyett’s direction is measured, confident, and darkly poetic throughout, weaving an emotional web of tenderness amidst hopelessness and abuse. The cast are stellar …” – Dread Central
“Aggressively entertaining, a stark and ferocious new revenge thriller, both unflinching and compelling.” – Scott Weinberg, FEARnet
“… it’s stylistically bold and brutally compelling..” – Owen Williams, Empireonline.Com
Now you can own the The Seasoning House Blu-ray. Just leave a comment here naming your favorite horror movie with the word ‘House’ in the title (mine would be Last House On The Left of course). Three lucky winners will be mailed new Blu-rays of The Seasoning House.

"It gets better," goes the campaign to lift the spirits of those burdened by being outsiders. But what happens if you just can't make it? What if losing yourself in hobbies or spending time with your best friend just isn't enough to overcome the constant harassment and bullying? That's the central question of Matthew Johnson's rather nervy and impressive directorial debut "The Dirties." Hitting the festival circuit hard this year, the film has slowly been gaining a steady buzz, in large part due to its Grand Jury Prize and Next Wave Spotlight wins at Slamdance and Fantastic Fest. And now it's headed to a theater near you. Starring Johnson (who also co-wrote and produced the film) alongside Owen Williams, the story chronicles two cinema-loving high school best friends making a movie for a class project, in which they play detectives bringing down the bullies at their high school. But...

After the critical and commercial success of Kick-Ass, a sequel was inevitable.
The movie goes on general release this week, and the reviewers across the world have been quick to share their opinions on the follow-up.
From the Daily Mail's "Sick-Ass" denunciation, to Den of Geek's more positive reading, Digital Spy rounds up the main critical opinion below
Robbie Collin - The Daily Telegraph
"In Kick-Ass 2, when a gang of costumed enforcers smash up a gambling den to the strains of 'When the Saints Go Marching In', you shrug because you've seen something very much like it before in a film called Kick-Ass. Maybe cinema really does have a copycat violence problem... Your ass is constantly braced in readiness and hope, but it remains un-kicked."
Henry Barnes - The Guardian
"Significantly less confident and less brazen. It's a have-a-go affair that tries out the same blend of red-blooded action and salty-blue humour,...

Matt (Matthew Johnson) and Owen (Owen Williams) are two high school kids making a movie about two high school kids making a movie about two high school kids making a movie... Wait. Are there two levels of reality or three? I get dizzy just thinking about it, so for now I will just stick with three...or two. Anyways... The movie that Matt and Owen are making is precisely what we might expect from high school boys nowadays. The dialogue is riddled with profanity and -- like most of the YouTube generation -- they have a bloody fascination with bodily injuries. As if the characters within the film cannot think of anything original to say, their dialogue is chock full of cinematic quotations and references (appropriately enough, several chunks of Quentin Tarantino dialogue is cleverly re-appropriated). Oh, and the production value is low enough to deter some viewers...but they do use wireless mics!

Throught the years, the Sundance Film Festival and its more irreverant cousin, the Slamdance Film Festival have played host to no shortage of films about adolescents and high school. But we're willing to bet there are few as potentially eye-opening as "The Dirties." Set to premiere at Slamdance in a just a short while, we have the exclusive red band trailer for the film, and it's definitely worth a look. Marking the feature directorial debut of Matt Johnson (the man behind the web series "Nirvana The Band The Show"), he also co-stars (with Owen Williams) in, and co-wrote (with Evan Morgan), the tale of two cinema-loving high school friends, who are tormented by bullies. They decide to make a movie about exacting revenge on their tormentors, but it turns out, one of the friends isn't joking about getting justice. And as you'll see below in the trailer, what starts with...

"In 1962," begins Ronald Bergan in the Guardian, "Don Sharp was a minor ex-actor, hack writer and jobbing director of British B-films, when he was offered the chance to make a gothic horror movie for Hammer, 'the studio that dripped blood.' In the event, The Kiss of the Vampire (1963) rescued both Sharp, who has died aged 89, and Hammer from the doldrums. The studio, which had suffered several expensive flops, turned to Sharp due to his experience in low-budget filmmaking. Sharp, who claimed to have never watched a horror movie, let alone directed one, quickly steeped himself in the Hammer style by spending a week or so watching past successes, principally those directed by Terence Fisher and Freddie Francis. The Kiss of the Vampire, made with a smaller budget and an unstarry cast, recruited mostly from television, scored at the box office, and Sharp became associated with horror movies thereafter."
