Longtime makeup artist Rebecca Wachtel has experience in realizing beloved book characters for television adaptations. She spent seven years working on the hit Freeform series “Pretty Little Liars,” the wildly successful show based on the Sara Shepard novels. So when she was hired to lead the makeup department on the Amazon Prime Video limited series “Daisy Jones and the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Wachtel knew where to start.
“I feel like any time you’re transferring a book to screen, I want to honor the characters in the book, and I want to be true to them and I want to make the fans happy,” Wachtel tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. The question the makeup needs to answer, she adds, is simple. “How do you bring the characters to life with the actors that were cast and kind of meld those...

A familiar face is returning for Season 2 of Max’s Pretty Little Liars reboot. Original Pll cast member Annabeth Gish will reprise her role as Dr. Sullivan in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.
Gish recurred as the character in the original Pretty Little Liars series, which aired for six seasons on Freeform.
Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, the new series debuted five years after the original Pretty Little Liars series ended, focusing on new characters in the new fictional town of Millwood, Pa and with multiple references to iconic horror movies (think Carrie and the original Halloween).
Season 1 picked up 20 years after a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Pretty Little Liars, the soapy teen drama based on the books by Sara Shepard, captivated audiences for seven seasons. The cliquey friend group found themselves being harassed by an anonymous “A” after the disappearance of their leader, snarky Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse). But here was something the actor wished had disappeared with her character.
In ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ Sasha Pieterse loathed her character’s yellow ruffled tank top

Throughout the first few seasons of Pretty Little Liars, most of Sasha Pieterse’s appearances on the show were flashbacks from the night Alison disappeared. Because of that, she’s usually seen wearing the same piece of clothing — a ruffly yellow tank top.

Based on the novel series by Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars gathered a passionate following over its seven-season run. Warning: This post contains spoilers for the HBO Max series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.”
“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” is a much more horror-centric take on Sara Shepard’s young adult novels about a group of teenage girls who are being stalked by an anonymous assailant.
While the teen slasher series contains plenty of callbacks to the original series, there are also a ton of winks to classic horror films that make the series that much more eerie — from strikingly obvious references like “Carrie” to more subtle references like “The Shining.”
“We’re such die hard horror fans,” co-creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TheWrap. “I think that’s part of the fun of this show is getting to play with those tropes and doing new versions of those scenes.”

"Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin" is finally here, and there's a lot to unpack following its three-episode premiere on July 28. The latest slasher thriller is the third spin-off of the popular Freeform teen drama, "Pretty Little Liars," which loosely adapts Sara Shepard's YA book series of the same name. Expanding the Pll canon, the new HBO Max series opens with a bang as viewers are taken 22 years back to the fateful night that kicks off the chain of mysterious events that are transpiring in the present timeline.
It all starts with the turn of the century celebrations that come to a bitter end as a student named Angela Waters kills herself during a rave in Millwood, Pa. She was a friend to a tight-knit group of five young girls who just so happen to be the future mothers of the new generation of Liars. Wild coincidence, right? Not really.

For a certain generation of TV watchers, the theme song for “Pretty Little Liars” scratches an itch like no other. The original series, which ran for seven seasons on ABC Family before the channel became Freeform, began each episode with the lilting melodies of the Pierces’ “Secret” over pristine images of the main quartet in their funereal finest, making winking eye contact with the camera in order to shush it. The stage thus set, TV’s first iteration of Sara Shepard’s novels was slick, if not exactly subtle.
Now, after two previous tries at spinoffs (“The Perfectionists” and “Ravenswood”) failed to launch, a new attempt at reviving the franchise has arrived in the form of “Original Sin.” Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” the drama follows in its predecessor’s footsteps by establishing its tone straight from its evocative opening-credits sequence.

HBO Max is getting ready to try its hand at yet another spinoff of the popular Freeform teenage drama series "Pretty Little Liars," and the first look alone has sent chills down our spines. Could this be the first "Pll" spinoff that goes the distance?
Titled "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin," the forthcoming reboot will follow a fresh bunch of Liars who scramble their way out of a series of troubles that befall them when an unknown Assailant - notoriously dubbed A - threatens to unearth their well-buried secrets. The original mystery drama, which adapts Sara Shepard's YA book series of the same name, ran on Freeform from 2010 to 2017. It spawned two failed spinoffs - 2013's "Ravenswood" and its 2019 follow-up, "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" - both of which were canceled after one season. Since the previous two shows in the Pretty Little Liars universe have direct ties with the parent series,...

A new generation of liars are up to no good in the first trailer for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” premiering this summer on HBO Max.
A sequel to the popular 2010 ABC Family/Freeform teen drama “Pretty Little Liars” — based on Sara Shepard’s book series of the same name — “Original Sin” follows the chronology of the original show, which ran for seven seasons and 160 episodes, but focuses on a completely new set of teenagers in a new town
Bailee Madison, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Chandler Kinney and Zaria play the five main characters: Imogen, Minnie, Noa, Tabby and Faran, a group of friends tormented by “A” — an anonymous identity assumed by villains in the original series. Whereas the As from the original show harassed the girls with their personal secrets, this A is going after the friend group for the mistakes their mothers committed while they were in high school.

HBO Max has given a direct-to-series order to a “Pretty Little Liars” reboot from “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the streaming service said Thursday.
Titled “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” the show will be set in a new town and follow a “new generation” of liars, but exist in the same universe as the Freeform series created by I. Marlene King and based on the novel series of the same name written by Sara Shepard. King is not involved in the reboot.
Here’s the official description for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”:
Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago…as well as their own.

HBO Max has issued a straight-to-series order for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” a reboot of the original Freeform series. The show hails from “Riverdale” producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” producer Lindsay Calhoon Bring.
Set in the present day, 20 years after a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart, the new “Pretty Little” liars will center around a group of disparate teen girls who find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago.
“Original Sin” is described as a “dark, coming-of-rage, horror-tinged drama.”

Sir, it’s the reboots. They’re getting…they’re getting faster.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riverdale creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is developing a reboot of Freeform’s pulpy high school hit Pretty Little Liars. This comes just only three years after the show wrapped up its seven-season run in 2017.
This new Pretty Little Liars project will center on a new story with new characters. No network has been attached yet but it is believed that HBO Max is the most likely destination. This makes sense given that Pretty Little Liars is a Warner Bros. TV property. There is no additional information regarding a production date at press time but Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will reportedly executive produce the drama alongside Aguirre-Sacasa. It is unknown if original series creator I. Marlene King will return in any capacity.
Pretty Little Liars is indeed a pretty important property for Warner Bros.

Well, that didn’t take long. Just three years after Pretty Little Liars wrapped its seven-season run on Freeform, the Warner Bros. TV series is being eyed for a reboot. Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is on board to develop a new take on the drama series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This alternate version of Pll will reportedly feature an entirely new story with a fresh crop of characters.
The original show, which had Marlene King at the helm, starred Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario and Sasha Pieterse as a group of Pennsylvania teenagers being hunted — largely...

“Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on a reboot of Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars,” TheWrap has learned.
Aguirre-Sacasa’s take on the teen drama, which was created by I. Marlene King and based on the novel series of the same name written by Sara Shepard, would follow a new story, focused on new characters. He is developing the “Pll” project for Warner Bros. TV — which recently absorbed “Pretty Little Liars’s” original studio, Warner Horizon — where he has an overall deal.
Showrunner of both The CW’s “Riverdale” and Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Aguirre-Sacasa will executive produce the potential reboot series alongside Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.
No platform is attached to the reboot, which is still in the early stages of development and has not been taken out to the marketplace yet.
Warner Bros. TV declined to comment on the “Pretty Little Liars” project.

A reboot of the Freeform series “Pretty Little Liars” is in the early stages of development at Warner Bros. Television, Variety has confirmed.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who previously developed “Riverdale” for television, is developing the potential reboot under his overall deal with Wbtv. Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will serve as executive producers on the project, as Alloy controls the rights to the series. All other details, including the plot, are being kept under wraps.
At this time, it is unknown if series creator I. Marlene King would be involved in any new iteration of the series. King departed her overall deal at Wbtv last year for a new deal at 20th Television.

Whether we love them wholeheartedly or as guilty pleasures, Young Adult books make for great reading and TV material.
Unfortunately, TV is prone to making the same adaptational mistakes with Ya books as they are with any other type of literature.
Fortunately, TV is always searching for it next teen hit, so there's plenty of opportunities to finally give these Ya books a proper TV adaptation.
Let start with Pretty Little Liars because even though it aired for seven seasons, there's quite a demand for a redo.
Compared to the TV version, the Pretty Little Liars books, written by Sara Shepard, had far more substance.
For one thing, the books were much better plotted whereas the TV series was nonsensical.
The books were much better in how it depicted mental health.
Despite its great casting, the TV series did a huge disservice to the characters. The TV show radically changed...
