It has been less than a decade since 26 people, most of them children, were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, and barely 10 days since the last major U.S. mass shooting made national news in Buffalo. And now, yet again, the nation faces the senseless deaths of a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. At least 19 children and two adults were killed on Tuesday in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, according to the Associated Press.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old man who lived in Uvalde.

There’s nothing like the “Vegas Callbacks” round to make So You Think You Can Dance look like a common pool party!
Thirty-five dancers moved on after a grueling Vegas Callbacks round. Contestants had to make it through four routines: Broadway with Tyce Diorio, Jazz with Sonya Tayeh, Ballroom with Jason Gilkinson, and Contemporary with season 2 runner-up and frequent choreographer Travis Wall. We barely saw any names on-screen (so I’m sorry I can’t give you the official list of 35), but the editors did make sure to give us one complete Vegas story arc: that of Blake Lively lookalike Alexa Anderson.

Nicole Scherzinger was a musical guest on the July 14 episode of "So You Think You Can Dance". Before the top 10 contestants of the dancing show were announced, the former frontwoman of The Pussycat Dolls showed off her moves while singing her solo single "Right There".
The female judge of "The X Factor (Us)" was introduced by host Cat Deeley who recently celebrated her Emmy Nomination for Reality Show Host. Sporting a long ponytail, she bared her midriff in a white top, short shorts and a sheer white blouse at the Thursday gig.
"Sytycd" sent home Ryan Ramirez and Alexander Fost that night. Ryan was in the bottom three with her partner Ricky Jaime, while Alexander dragged along Sasha Mallory to the dangerous zone. The other couple in jeopardy were Melanie Moore and Marko Germar.

The number of dancers in "So You Think You Can Dance" season 8 has been trimmed to 10 on Thursday, July 14 as two more contestants were sent packing. The unlucky ones were Ryan Ramirez from the girl camp and Alexander Fost from the male pack.
Ryan was in the bottom three with her partner Ricky Jaime, while Alexander dragged along Sasha Mallory to the dangerous zone. The other couple in jeopardy were Melanie Moore and Marko Germar. Before the judges' decision was unveiled, Nicole Scherzinger took the stage to perform.
Another announcement delivered during the result show was the All-Stars. Allison Holker (season 2), Brandon Bryant (season 5), Chelsie Hightower (season 4), Comfort Fedoke (season 4), Kathryn McCormick (season 6), Melody Lacayanga (season 1), Pasha Kovalev (season 3), Robert Roldan (season 7) and Stephen "Twitch" Boss (season 4) will return to the show next week to accompany the top 10.

Traditions were broken on So You Think You Can Dance this week: A Season 8 couple who hadn’t been in the Bottom 3 all season found themselves in jeopardy during tonight’s results show. The judges, for the first time in five weeks, eliminated a male and a female contestant who hadn’t been dancing as partners. Oh, and gloriously, both the show and its sublime host Cat Deeley found themselves nominated for Emmy Awards.

Heading into tonight on So You Think You Can Dance, there were six couples left—half of them safe, the other half in danger of not making it into the top 10 and the ensuing Sytycd live tour. Following last night's 12-routine performance show, it seemed pretty obvious who would be picked to dance for their lives: Jordan Casanova and Tadd Gadduang, Ryan Ramirez and Ricky Jaime, and Caitlynn Lawson and Mitchell Kelly. Right?! Almost. Clarice and Mitchell made practically no impact with their opening lyrical hip-hop routine (a bummer of a miss from Christopher Scott), so even though they steamed up the stage with their lady-rocker-scorned contemporary number in the latter half of the...

Will there be a more stressful day this year for So You Think You Can Dance fans than Thursday, July 14? No, that’s not a reference to Bastille Day — Nigel Lythgoe is a Brit, after all! — but it will mark the brutal moment when the final two dancers are sent home just short of the Sytycd Season 8 touring Top 10, and the 2011 Emmy nominations are announced. And as far as I’m concerned, there can only be one satisfying conclusion: Ryan Ramirez and Ricky Jaime must get the boot, and Cat Deeley must finally score herself a nod in the Outstanding...

Tears flowed faster than the footwork of the dreaded quickstep during tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance results-show telecast, but ultimately the right two dancers went home. (No, I’m not talking about Carmen Electra, though she was conspicuously absent from the judges’ table after guesting in the “gentle celebrity” spot on Wednesday.)
To be honest, I’d have been okay if Ashley and Chris had done the one-two step back to obscurity in Week 1 of the Season 8 finals — following that “cheating couple” hip-hop routine the judges loved but I didn’t get at all — a development that...

So You Think You Can Dance continued a Season 8 tradition on Wednesday night of bringing us an inoffensive guest judge who lobbed softballs and/or followed the Nigel Lythgoe party line. The latest variation on this theme, Carmen Electra, brought a supple, new-age-y twist to the role, but she might have been just as effective if she’d held up placards with emoticons conveying her feelings about the various dances: “Happy,” “sad,” “sexy,” and “I’ve run out of vocabulary words.” The one thing that confused me about Electra’s judging stint, though, was her response to Cat Deeley’s question about her dance credentials.

It was another night of unforgettable performances as the Top 14 dancers took to the stage on 'So You Think You Can Dance' (Wed., 8Pm Et on Fox). This time, joining Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy on the judging panel, were Carmen Electra and Travis Wall.
Electra detailed her own extensive background in dance, so we wouldn't think she was just a pretty face, while 'Sytycd' fans know Wall as the runner-up in Season 2. Since Season 5 he's become a staple in the roster of choreographers turning in brilliant performances, so it was an exciting evolution to see him judging the show.
Always a favorite of the judges, Ryan Ramirez impressed yet again in a "quirky" jazz routine with partner Ricky Jaime.

On Wednesday night’s Top 16 episode of So You Think You Can Dance, highly entertaining guest judge Kristin Chenoweth declared that the night’s final two-person routine was “a dessert — and I liked every bite!” But if you think about it, her metaphor could’ve (and maybe should’ve) been expanded to describe the entire two-hour telecast, which offered one sweet treat after another, to the point where I was practically waving my arm at the TV screen and shouting “I’ll take one of everything!”

Since Iveta Lukosiute, the 30-year-old ten-dance ballroom champion, got the boot on “So You Think You Can Dance” last week, the blogosphere has been churning with debates about what the judges are – and should be – looking for on the show. Is “Sytycd” about potential? Or performance? Nigel blathered on and on about Ryan Ramirez’s “potential,” even though a lot of people (myself included) felt her solo performance was middling at best. I’m also starting to question her permagrin, which seems stuck onto her face even during routines that should be about communicating anguish or sadness. The first...

We're not sure what it says about "So You Think You Can Dance" that the first celebrity judge of the season was Megan Mullally -- star of "Childrens Hospital," erstwhile Tammy no. 2 on NBC's "Parks & Recreation" and "Will & Grace" alumna. She's not really known for her dancing. But, hey, we were pretty jazzed, what with being big fans and all. We hoped to catch a glimpse of real-life husband Nick Offerman (Ron Effing Swanson) in the audience, but no such luck -- probably home whittling a canoe.

We've been through cross-country auditions and Las Vegas week, but 20 dancers walked the "So You Think You Can Dance" green mile to make it to the finals of our favorite dance competition. And, lucky for them and us, no one went home this week and the dancers got to show off their skills in their native genres.
The first four dancers to make it into the top 20 performed (in front of a live studio audience, no less) the first routine of the night to The Irrepressibles' harmony-heavy "In This Shirt." The Stacey Tookey-choreographed routine was modern and floaty -- all pale folds of flowing fabric and fog machines obscuring the dancers' feet.
Our first four were all from the contemporary end of the spectrum: Rickey Jaime, an 18-year-old from Tampa, Fla.; Miranda Maleski, a 19-year-old from North Hollywood, Calif. (who told Zap2it she danced on stage behind Kanye West at Coachella); Melanie Moore,...

'So You Think You Can Dance': Where Have We Seen Them Before? (Or, Why is the Dance World So Small?)
If there's one thing I learned from watching So You Think You Can Dance, it's this: the dance world is a small one. There's always a chance that the dancer you're watching knows, or has worked with, either a former contestant, a fellow hopeful, or one of the show's judges or choreographers. Or maybe we've seen them in previous seasons of the show.
Say, Ryan Ramirez, who auditioned in San Francisco. She almost made it to the Top 11 last year, but was cut from the Top 24. (I couldn't find a clip of that moment, though.) And then there's the fact that she also worked with former Sytycd judge Mia Michaels, which might explain as to why she didn't make it last year -- and why she might make it this year.
