Peter Ramsey, Caleeb Pinkett Producing Live-Action Feature Adaptation Of Comic Book ‘The Storm Clan’
Exclusive: Academy Award winner Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and former Overbook head Caleeb Pinkett (Cobra Kai) are set to produce a live-action feature adaptation of The Storm Clan, the comic book created by Dallas Jackson and Joe Casey, which marks the first title from Jackson’s new company DJ Classicz Comix.
Jackson and Casey will pen the script, with former Lionsgate exec Jorge Alfaro to serve as an EP.
A sci-fi action adventure story, The Storm Clan watches as an ex-military weapons engineer trains his five adopted children to be undercover hi-tech/martial-arts thieves wearing an invincible bionic-body armor. Previously orphaned, the teenagers gifted with bionic technology see it provide them with the opportunity to protect themselves from the threats of the streets, also empowering them to take advantage of life instead of being taken advantage of, and most importantly, giving them comfort and sense of belonging within a family.

It’s hard to explain exactly what inspired this list. Maybe we just wanted to rave some more about Pixar. Maybe watching Avatar again and the new sequel Avatar: The Way of Water boggled our minds. Whatever it was, it’s done, and we can’t take it back (the delete key is broken). It is kind of strange that there are so many blue movie characters. If we wanted to do, say, Best Red Characters in Movies, it would just be five pictures of Hellboy and five pictures of Darth Maul. Travel below to see our picks for the very best blue characters in movie history!

Exclusive: We understand that Amazon Studios MGM Senior Production & Development Executive Sandino Moya-Smith was unfortunately part of the cuts made by the streaming/theatrical studio this morning.
Moya-Smith, who was involved in development and also feature physical production, was recently working on Doug Liman’s Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC middleweight fighter who ends up working at a rowdy bar in the Florida Keys where things are not as they seem. Moya-Smith was also overseeing Wrecking Crew, the Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa buddy action comedy from Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto. The year began, as they usually do, with so much promise. This was, after all, supposed to be the year that DC came roaring back, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the long-awaited The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Marvel had its own big slate. We were to be in a Shangri-La of screen superheroes. Yet in the end, it appeared the comic book movies failed audiences.
Or did they? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, based on comics from the 1980s, is one of the top animated movies of the year. David Fincher’s stylish The Killer is based on a French graphic novel. And of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is a towering achievement even beyond the medium of animation.
In other corners, movies based on toys, for the most part, are looked down upon and are considered jokes. But here, too, 2023 surprised us.

Well, Schmoes, as 2023 finally draws to a close, we reflect on another unique year for movie fans. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes shook up the release schedule, but we still got a ton of movies on the big screen and via countless streaming platforms. If there is one thing for sure, there are always movies highly overrated and underrated by critics and fans alike. As the UnPopular Opinion Guy, I felt it was only fitting to issue my list of the movies I felt the masses got wrong. Some of these may shock you, and some may piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective of the movies of 2023. If you disagree with any of the choices, please voice your opinion in the comments below. After all, the only opinion that really matters is yours, and I am just here to share mine.

Jamie Foxx made a surprise appearance at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and Aapi Achievements event on Monday night, marking his first public outing since he was hospitalized for a medical complication in April.
Foxx, whose honor was not announced in advance, received the Vanguard Award for his performance in The Burial and took to the stage unassisted, showing off his trademark wit and humor as he discusses the health challenges he’s faced this year.
“I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage]. And I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people saying that I was cloned out there,” he jokingly told the crowd at the Fairmont Plaza Hotel in Century City. “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now, it’s different.

Dear Hollywood,
As the Thanksgiving holiday dawns, I urge you to include Latino films and performances on your winter watch list and give Hollywood Latinos and their projects a fair chance to be seen.
While Latinos are a growing and essential part of the cultural and social fabric of America, based on the dismal numbers from the recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Report on major Hollywood films released between 2007-2022, it’s clear that Hollywood — America’s narrative-creating and image-defining institution — is broadly failing to acknowledge or include the Latino community.
The Annenberg report notes slow progress over the years. In 2007, no Hispanic/Latino actor held a lead or co-lead role in major Hollywood films. In 2021 and 2022, there were marginal gains, with 10 films where Hispanic/Latino actors held lead or co-lead roles, out of a total of 109 and 118 leading roles, respectively. Among directors and producers of major Hollywood films, less than 5% were Hispanic or Latino,...

Blue Beetle came out late in the summer as the actors’ strike took place. While the film’s star, Xolo Maridueña, has been able to have some of his pre-strike comments about the film come out during the promotional period, the Cobra Kai star was not able to do any press for the DC movie or talk about it in any way on any venue. However, earlier in the summer, when the hype for the new Dcu movie started to build, Maridueña and the film’s director, Angel Manuel Soto, were able to share just how personal and important this movie was for them as it was a superhero story with a prominent Latin representation that made them very proud and emotional.

With the recent conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike, actors can now freely discuss projects they previously had to keep quiet about during the labor dispute. One such actor is “Blue Beetle” headliner Xolo Maridueña, who took to social media and thanked his supporters in his first public remarks since the DC superhero film was released: “This is for all our inner child.”
“‘Blue Beetle’ is sacred to me, from the family you see on screen to the ones I made off, this movie has tore me down and built me back up in ways I’ll never be able to articulate,” Maridueña said on Instagram. “To celebrate this moment behind closed doors has been one of the most formative moments of my life but it helped me realize, there is no dollar sign, no tweet, no headline, that can quantify the feeling inside a child who sees their ancestry is heroic.

Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, the film centers on college graduate Jaime Reyes ( Xolo Maridueña) who gets chosen to become a symbiotic host to an ancient alien biotech relic that turns him into the superhero known as Blue Beetle. As one of the most preeminent Latino superheroes in comic book history, the “Blue Beetle” cast is predominantly Latino, including Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Raoul Max Trujillo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar and Belissa Escobedo, along with Susan Sarandon.

Angel Manuel Soto thinks 'Blue Beetle' has had a "positive impact"' on young viewers. The 40-year-old director is at the helm of the DC Comics movie which stars Xolo Maridueña as the first Latino superhero and recalled at one of the screenings of the film, a young boy came up to him in tears after seeing himself represented on screen. He told ScreenRant: " I think in one screening that we showed up, we saw a couple of kids, but this one kid, gave me a hug and started crying. Because he never thought that he was ever going to see, not only his community represented that way, but also family members that reminded him of his own family. It felt like he saw his family and he saw them the way he sees them as heroes in his life. it gave him an energy that there...

The superhero movie was originally slated as an HBO Max (now simply known as Max) streaming release, but then moved to a theatrical run during development. Ángel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer's "Blue Beetle" (check out our review here) may not have been a box office success, but the latest venture from DC Studios and one of the last films of the DC Cinematic Universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran revamp the studio is thankfully one of the most fun. Not to mention, it's also one of the rare instances where a superhero movie embraces cultural specificity, instead of just perpetuating the same ol' white stories over and over again. If you've yet to see the film, here's what to expect.

It’s been a week since ‘Blue Beetle,’ the newest DC movie, opened in theaters, and judging by the first weekend only, WB and DC Studios are listing this as their fourth DC flop in a row. 2022’s ‘The Batman’ remains the latest commercially successful DC movie, and it looks like it’s going to stay like that for a while now.
Despite the fact that ‘Blue Beetle’ is still very early in its theatrical run, grossing a little over $40 million worldwide for the opening weekend is already enough to call it a flop, particularly because ‘The Flash,’ another commercial disappointment for DC one and of the biggest box-office flops in history, grossed $139 million in its opening weekend.
At this point, the future of Xolo Maridueña as the Blue Beetle, despite the fact that he was born to play this role, is very uncertain, regardless of James Gunn’s promises about his future in Dcu,...

This post contains spoilers for Blue Beetle.
Even ten years ago, few would have guessed that the Blue Beetle would be in a movie, let alone the star of one. Both the current Blue Beetle Jamie Reyes and his predecessor Ted Kord have been fan favorites since the 80s, when the latter became a member of Justice League International. But Blue Beetle is hardly the only DC Comics deep cut in the film.
Throughout the movie, the villainous Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) touts her company’s newest invention, a battle suit termed Omac, which stands for One Man Army Corps. Created by Jack Kirby during his time at DC Comics in the 1970s, Omac is one of the legendary artist’s strangest characters, someone who has been radically reimagined several times since his first appearance.
Omac made his debut in 1974’s Omac #1, written and penciled by Kirby, with letters and inks by Mike Royer.

Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto is hopeful about the future of his characters and storylines, and the mere presence of the film’s mid-credit scene is a big reason why.

The recently released DC live-action venture Blue Beetle has managed to amaze viewers worldwide by presenting a pretty simplistic yet inventive superhero origin tale of the eponymous character. There are multiple points done right in the movie that need to be appreciated, but undeniably the best aspect was the intricately family-oriented narrative and an honest, relatable representation of Latinidad. Through the teenage lead, Jaime Reyes, and his Mexican family, director Angel Manuel Soto tried to delineate the living experience of the Latino communities as a marginalized section in a first-world country. If you loved the cultural representation and family-oriented issues DC’s latest superhero flick addressed, you’ll surely like the ones we would like to suggest you check out.
