"In the end we’ll all become stories. Make sure yours will be the greatest ever told." An impressive promo video has been created titled A Report Of Connected Events, made by PostPanic as a "branded content film" for Liberty Global. Directed by Mischa Rozema, this video combines cinema/storytelling with reality by implementing moments from film & TV into actual real footage of our world. This is almost like one of those images where you have to find all of the pop culture references, but with even more going on because they're hidden in every scene and every shot of this. Some of it is cool, some of it is crazy, some of it is weird - like the fully rendered Ghibli characters. I still think it is worth a watch because it is so unique and geeky. From the official description: "A Report Of Connected Events is a branded...

Crafting an impressive short with ideas to burn is becoming an ever-more popular means for first-time filmmakers to get their foot in the studio door. Dracula Untold’s Gary Shore got his start that way, and this year’s Pixels was born from Patrick Jean’s video game-referencing work. Now Dutch ads and short film director Mischa Rozema has scored a deal with Warner Bros. on the back of his pitch film, Sundays, which you can watch below. Rozema’s concept, which he wrote with Kevin Koehler, finds Brian Petsos as a man who begins to realise that he himself and the world around him are not what they seem – indeed, the whole universe appears to be slowly falling apart. But can he trust even his own senses? The short definitely has overtones of The Matrix, Inception and even District 9 in its use of grungy visual style and dystopian ideas.

This week's must see video comes at us care of Dutch commercials producer PostPanic. The company has been making visually stylish commercials for years but they recently launched a film and television division and with it, a nearly 15 minute proof of concept video that has more wow moments than anything you've seen since Ruairi Robinson's breathtaking, and soon to be feature film, The Leviathan.
Directed by Mischa Rozema, the co-founder and creative director of PostPanic, Sundays is an ambitious pensive bit of sci-fi, the story of Ben (Brian Petsos), a man who slowly begins to realise that Isabelle (Sofia Sisniega), the only woman he has ever l [Continued ...]...

We've been following the progress of Mischa Rozema's ultra ambitious scifi short Sundays for quite some time now here at Twitch. From the earliest days of the crowd funding support to send the crew to shoot on location in Mexico - a fund raising effort we happily supported - through to trailers and other materials hitting the public eye, we've just been more and more impressed by everything we've seen. And now we get to see it all.Set in Mexico City sometime in the future and starring Us actor Brian Petsos and Mexican actress Sofia Sisniega, Sundays is an ambitious philosophical science-fiction proof-of-concept short. The end of the world seems like a nightmare to Ben. A memory of a past life that doesn't belong to...

They say that good things come to those who wait and that very much appears to be the case with Mischa Rozema's scifi short Sundays. We first wrote about the film two full years ago - back in June of 2012 - when they launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the Mexican shoot for the ambitious scifi short. The film posits a future in which computer intelligence outstrips humanity - and the consequences of that development - and the first teaser, which arrived back in December showed that the wait up until that point had been very worthwhile. And now? Now the film is deep into post production with completion anticipated for later this year and a second teaser has arrived to tide us over....

It was all the way back in June of 2012 that we first wrote about Mischa Rozema's scifi short Sundays. The occasion was the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to back the creation of the film and I was impressed enough with the visuals and pitch package that I threw down a few bucks myself and encouraged others to do the same. Money well spent. The first teaser for Rozema's creation has just arrived online and it looks every bit as good as I could have hoped.Shot on location in Mexico City with Brian Petsos in the lead the film posits a future in which computer power overtakes human intelligence and the consequences of that moment. Take a look at the fabulous teaser below and keep...

If you didn’t get your stop-motion fix last Friday night at the Ray Harryhausen Tribute, you’ll have a chance this weekend to take in the astonishing 9-minute horror short Abyssus Abyssum Invocat when it plays here as part of the St. Louis International film festival.
Abyssus Abyssum Invocat is a Latin phrase that means ‘Deep thinking leads to deep understanding’, though the filmmakers note that it can mean ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right’. Whatever the translation, the film is clearly inspired by Czech animator Jan Švankmajer, the American Brothers Quay, and Russian animator Wladyslaw Starewicz by way of David Lynch and the Saw franchise. Abyssus Abyssum Invocat utilizes stop-motion animation and live-action puppetry to create a darkly comic meditation on capital punishment and religion. I’ve seen Abyssus Abyssum Invocat and it’s a haunting trip. The animation isn’t particularly smooth but that crudeness works in the film’s favor,...

There are many film projects seeking funds via crowdfunding platforms these days, which offers the unique opportunity for an audience to interact and connect with a film, sometimes before the first shot is captured. This bi-weekly column will highlight projects that demonstrate potential, and deserve a closer look (and possibly a donation).
The Last Good Country
The Gist: A narrative short film, focusing on a transformative period in Ernest Hemingway’s life. Based on historic findings, the film will depict time Hemingway spent in the Michigan wilderness, and how this experience shaped his identity.
Why It Should Be Kickstarted: Perhaps the most alluring line of their pitch video is when actor Nic Collins states, “In this film, we see Hemingway become the man he writes about.” That’s a tall order to fill, but an exciting one as well. Hemingway himself was an enigmatic figure, the strong personality behind all of his characters.

Though we seldom cover Kickstarter projects here on Twitch - I will only cover crowd funded projects that I personally find interesting enough that I have supported them financially myself - sometimes the quality is so obvious that you just have to. Such is the case with Mischa Rozema's Sundays.A scifi short being prepared by the Amsterdam based commercials director as a prelude and proof of concept for a planned feature film, Sundays is built around the idea that a time is coming soon where computer intelligence will outstrip human intelligence on the planet, arriving at a sort of technological singularity. We are fast approaching an event, unparalleled in our history. A tipping point known as a technological singularity. It's the moment when computer power...
