Exclusive: George Gallo has signed on to direct the thriller Covet as his next feature film after he completes The Poison Rose. The latter pic stars John Travolta and Morgan Freeman and is gearing up to start shooting this month in Georgia.
The filmmaker, noted for his screenwriting credits on Bad Boys 1 & 2 and Midnight Run as well as directing such titles as Middle Men, will reunite with Emmy-nominated producer Steve Lee Jones and Scott Lastaiti. Previously, they worked on the fitness guru Weider brothers feature Bigger, which is being sold at Cannes by 13 Films.
Written by Washington, D.C. attorney George Mahaffey, who sold his first script to Paramount, Covet tells the intense tale of a home invasion of a wealthy Persian-Jewish family by ruthless anti-Immigrant Nationalist perpetrators that goes horribly awry.
Jones says: Covet cuts deep into the zeitgeist of the current notion of anti-immigration being masqueraded as patriotism.

Wanted and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov is set to direct the Michael Bay produced aerial action movie Heatseekers. There's really not much known about the story other than that it will center on an ex-military pilot who takes on a group of aerial pirates.
The movie is being written F. Scott Frazer from a spec script by George Mahaffey that was picked up by the studio for a cool six-figure payout. Frazer is currently writing a film for Universal called Day One, another for MGM called Metro 2033 and a Warner Bros. project called Line of Sight.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out, Bekmambetov may not be the best director, but he tends to make really fun films. ...

With Michael Bay putting the finishing touches on his Pain and Gain, the first non-Transformers movie he has made in years, he has had to hand off the aerial action movie Heatseekers. So while Bay will continue to produce the upcoming movie, Timur Bekmambetov plans to slide into the director.s chair and guide the blockbuster to theaters. THR reports that the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director has recruited F. Scott Frazer (Line of Sight) to polish a screenplay about an ex-military pilot who has to face off against a group of pirates in the sky. The initial treatment was submitted by George Mahaffey. Further details on the storyline are scarce, though the trade says that the picture has been set up at Paramount, with Bay co-producing alongside Chris Morgan, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. For a time, Bekmambetov was contemplating a sequel to his English-language debut Wanted, though...

This could be a match made in action movie heaven. THR reports that Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov has signed on to direct Heatseekers, a new action film being produced by Michael Bay and Andrew Fuller from Platinum Dunes and Fast and Furious producer/writer Chris Morgan. That's a lot of big names. Paramount Pictures acquired a spec script written by George Mahaffey in 2010, but rising scribe F. Scott Frazer (who only has the John Cusack thriller called The Numbers Station to his name) has just been hired to rewrite it before production begins. The story details are being kept secret for now, but THR says the plot surrounds "an ex-military pilot who takes on a group of aerial pirates." I don't know about you, but that description immediately conjures images of Stealth in my head. But action fans can take heart that even if Heatseekers...

Things have been quiet for director Timur Bekmambetov following last summer's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." In the run up to the movie there was talk of a few projects including "The Current War" about Thomas Edison with Sacha Baron Cohen considering the project as well as his take on Hermann Melville's "Moby Dick" which got a fresh rewrite. But not so much since. However, the helmer is kicking off 2013 by pairing up with a filmmaker who knows a thing or two about explosions. Bekmambetov will direct the action flick "Heatseekers," with none other than Michael Bay sitting in producer's chair, with the project set up under his Platinum Dunes banner, while Chris Morgan of "Fast & Furious" fame is also producing. Based on a spec script by George Mahaffey snapped up by Paramount in 2010, there are no deep details yet, but the story is said to center on "an ex-military pilot who takes on a group.
