I hope you’re sitting down. A Bachelor contestant has been called out for their racist past. In recent seasons it’s become a predictable part of the show’s meta-drama, and this year it happened in record time.

It’s a Bachelor scenario more predictable than a Neil Lane engagement ring on finale night: The longer a season of the ABC dating series runs, the more time its cast members will have to completely let us down.
In recent years, social media users have done the work that the Bachelor franchise’s casting department should be doing, uncovering contestants’ problematic pasts with just a few scrolls and swipes. Almost like clockwork, a Bachelor(/ette) season is interrupted by the news that, say, Garrett Yrigoyen liked a slew of bigoted memes on Instagram, or Eazy Nwachukwu was accused of sexual assault — or,...

To my knowledge, despite numerous films based on the story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, their hadn’t been many about Shelley’s own life. But in 2017 came the film Mary Shelley, in which Elle Fanning played the author, and now in 2021 A Nightmare Wakes comes to Shudder. This movie covers the true story of the part of her life where she had an affair with a married man and fell pregnant with his child, all while trying to write the famous novel Frankenstein.
It’s no surprise at all that A Nightmare Wakes is a gothic period drama that occasionally leans towards the horror side of things. This isn’t full of gore or jump scares, there’s more an underlying sense of unease which comes...

Forty seasons, 18 years, and one Black lead. If those statistics sound familiar to you, you're probably a fan of The Bachelor. It's also the phrase at the center of a recent campaign launched by a group of fans who are tired of the franchise's blatant lack of diversity and are demanding change. Titled The Bachelor Diversity Campaign, the organization's mission is to hold the beloved franchise accountable for Bipoc representation and antiracism.

On June 8, the campaign launched a petition titled "A Campaign for Anti-Racism in the Bachelor Franchise," which features 13 calls to action, including casting a Black lead in season 25 (season 16 of The Bachelorette has already cast Clare Crawley), casting Bipoc for "at least 35 percent of contestants" while giving them equitable screen time, hiring a Bipoc diversity consultant, and properly vetting new contestants to...

Former “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay threatened that if “The Bachelor” franchise doesn’t address its racial diversity issues, she’s walking away from it all, she told AfterBuzz on Friday.
“If we’re going around talking about Black Lives Matter and what’s important and how we need systemic change … well then let’s talk about systemic change when it comes to ‘The Bachelor.’ We got to change some things there, too,” Lindsay said.
Calling the long-running franchise’s output “whitewashed,” the first — and only — black lead in the “Bachelor” universe said, “I think that they have to, at this point, give us a black ‘Bachelor’ for Season 25. You have to. I don’t know how you don’t. And it’s been asked of me, will I continue in this franchise if it continues in this way? I can’t,” she answered. “I have to see some type of change.

A contestant on The Bachelorette is under fire yet again for views expressed on social media, and while ABC is apparently looking into it, the situation this time is rather tricky. Just after 29 year-old Garrett Yrigoyen was shown receiving the first impression rose from new Bachelorette Becca Kufrin during Monday's premiere, screenshots surfaced that showed what appeared to be his Instagram account "liking" some offensive posts, including some disparaging women and the transgender community and accusing Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg of being an actor. Last season of The Bachelorette, contestant Lee Garrett was found to have posted a bunch of racist and otherwise extremely offensive tweets,...

On Monday night’s premiere of “The Bachelorette,” Garrett Yrigoyen set himself as a frontrunner for Becca Kufrin‘s affections, receiving the first impression rose after a charming entrance in a family-friendly minivan.
While Yrigoyen was winning over Kufrin onscreen, the Huffington Post reported that the suitor has a history of liking posts on Instagram that mock Parkland high school students, liberal women, trans people, and undocumented immigrants. He has since deleted the account, which was made private on May 24, but not before former “Bachelor” contestant Ashley Spivey posted screenshots of his social media activity to Twitter.
The screenshots show that Yrigoyen has liked numerous memes and posts from conservative political pundits, including Tomi Lahren, which include comments about the appearances of women, throwing immigrant children over border walls, and suggestions that Parkland student David Hogg is a crisis actor.
