Wesleyan University’s finest Mgmt may finally be ready to release some new music.
Andrew VanWyngarden, one-half of the ever-inventive synth-pop duo, popped by the Mgmt subreddit yesterday to share a photo of a test pressing, on top of which he placed a banana. Maybe because he was about to get his daily dose of potassium, or he wanted to reference the Velvet Underground & Nico cover art. Who’s to say?
Accompanying the photo was a bit of chicken scratch digital writing: “elf of soils.” That could be the name of an album,...

There’s an amusing story about the late painter Edward Brzezinski that endures even though his legacy hasn’t. It was 1989, and Brzezinski arrived at the Paula Cooper Gallery in SoHo for a show. On display that evening was Robert Gober’s Bag of Donuts, a simple sculpture displaying resin-covered donuts in a crinkled white paper bag. (The piece, quite literal in its construction, recalls Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian, which you might remember as the banana duct-taped to the wall.) Brzezinski, slightly drunk and maybe even hungry, stumbles into the gallery, lifts a donut from the bag and…eats it.

David Byrne, Iggy Pop and Michael Stipe are among the musicians and artists participating in a new digital art project from artist Maurizio Cattelan called Bedtime Stories.
Bedtime Stories launched via the New Museum and, per a statement, Cattelan envisioned the project “as a way of staying together during these days of isolation.” Each participant was asked to share a selection from their favorite book, but while some followed the prompt exactly, others read their own writing or even shared impromptu performances.

Less than a week after performing his new song “We Are the People” with Laurie Anderson at the annual Tibet House benefit in New York, Iggy Pop dropped a video for the track. The song appears on his latest LP, Free, released last fall.
The minimal, stark video features Pop staring into the camera, reciting the words to the song. “We are the crystal gaze/Returned through the density and immensity of a berserk nation,” he declares. “We are the victims of the untold manifesto of the lack of depth.

For the nouveau riche, Miami’s annual Art Basel festival is an opportunity to take Instagram photos on yachts with rappers and show off your mistress’s new butt implants. It is also, incidentally, one of the biggest and most prestigious art shows in the country, even if many of the people there don’t actually know or care much about art.
This dissonance was on full display on Sunday afternoon, when a prankster graffitied a controversial exhibition with the phrase “Epstein didn’t kill himself” — prompting many attendees to...

Donald Trump‘s Van Gogh dreams were reportedly very creatively flushed down the drain last year.
The president asked the Guggenheim Museum in New York City if he and Melania Trump could borrow Vincent Van Gogh’s “Landscape With the Snow” to decorate the private living quarters of the White House.
Chief curator Nancy Spector, who has often criticized the president on social media, denied the Trumps of taking the 1888 painting of a man and his dog in Arles, France, according to her statement to the Washington Post on Thursday.
Instead, Spector offered them a counter-offer nothing like the oil and watercolor painting.
