Meet the film reviewer who gave Warner Bros a review even better than a five star rave...
The late 1960s were widely regarded as a turning point for American cinema, and this was thrown into focus by the nominees for the 40th Academy Awards. Held on April 10th 1968, and celebrating films released in 1967, the line-up of five Best Picture candidates notably had only one film that could be bracketed as traditional Hollywood. Even then, the bloated Doctor Dolittle, featuring Rex Harrison gamely trying to belt out a few tunes across the best part of three hours, was disregarded pretty much the minute the nominees were read out. Instead, the focus turned to the other four contenders.

This weekend marks 50 years since the release of the film that shook up studios and ushered in a new wave of auteurs including Coppola and Scorsese. Does the complacent Hollywood of 2017 need a similar shock?
We will never know the contents of Warren Beatty’s head once it became clear he had cued Faye Dunaway into wrongly naming La La Land this year’s best picture at the Oscars. Rooted centre stage, the cast and crew of the real winner, Moonlight, filing by, he wore the horrified blank stare of the veteran actor suddenly unable to remember his line. Or perhaps he found himself a happy place – lost in thoughts of Bonnie and Clyde, the transformative crime movie whose 50th anniversary was the reason he and Dunaway were there anyway.

“This here’s Miss Bonnie Parker. I’m Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.”
Fifty years ago, Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde made Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway into genuine superstars, building on the tale of a real-life crime spree that had enthralled America in the 1920s. Bonnie and Clyde smashed through almost every cinematic taboo, combining violence, sex, romance, action and comedy in groundbreaking ways.
On August 13, 50 years to the day from its original theatrical release, Bonnie and Clyde returns to theaters nationwide, presented by Fathom Events and the TCM Big Screen Classics Series. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Bonnie and Clyde won two Oscars and presaged a cultural obsession with public notoriety at any price.
Bonnie and Clyde will play in more than 600 theaters nationwide on Sunday, August 13, and Wednesday, August 16, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day.

Don’t look to this noir for hardboiled cynicism – for his first feature Nicholas Ray instead gives us a dose of fatalist romance. Transposed from the previous decade, a pair of fugitives takes what happiness they can find, always aware that a grim fate waits ahead. The show is a career-making triumph and a real classic from Rko — which shelved it for more than a year.

According to Deadline, a long-in-production movie about the Texas Rangers tasked with hunting down legendary outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow might finally get made, at least if Netflix can get the rights from Universal. The project is called Highwaymen, and it was originally set to star Paul Newman and Robert Redford, but due to the endless passage of time, Netflix wants to replace them with Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner.
Assuming this all works out, Costner will play lawman Frank Hamer—who Deadline says “survived 100 gunfights and killed 53 people”—with Harrelson playing Manny Gault. Together, those two men led a posse tasked with ending Bonnie and Clyde’s crime spree, which naturally gives Highwaymen a different spin than what you usually see in Hollywood’s many Bonnie and Clyde stories. Again, this is all fairly early and dependent on a few good things happening for Netflix, but ...

This hour starts with Wyatt and Lucy debating the concept of soul mates while ducking under a hail of bullets.
They have a perfect case in point on Timeless Season 1 Episode 9: doomed outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. The connection? The Rittenhouse key that Flynn is seeking was a gift from Clyde to Bonnie stolen from Henry Ford.
Early on, the only functional relationship among the trio is on display as Rufus and Jiya share a parting kiss before the mission. This development is news to Rufus' partners.
Rufus: I trust Jiya.
Wyatt: I bet you do. I've got eyes, you sly dog.
Lucy: What? Is it happening? I told you it was going to happen.
Permalink: What? Is it happening? I told you it was going to happen. Added: December 05, 2016
Right before the mission, Lucy has had a disastrous date with her fiance Noah, with whom she has zero chemistry.

Kelly Brook plays a shop assistant turned outlaw in a breezy London tale that doesn’t do justice to writer/director Maeve Murphy’s talents
Ever envisaged Kelly Brook as a latterday Bonnie Parker? Me neither. But talented writer/director Maeve Murphy has other ideas, casting Kelly as disgruntled shop employee Kate who decides to rob her place of work when redundancy looms. It’s fluffy, sunny fare, shot in breezy London locales that go some way towards disguising the ropey plot and televisual contrivance.
Personally, I much preferred Murphy’s short film, Sushi, the tasty appetiser to this altogether more bland main course.

It has some appealing quirky touches, but Maeve Murphy’s comedy might have worked better on the small screen
Maeve Murphy is the award-winning theatre and film director whose debut feature Silent Grace (2001) was a tough drama about Irish Republican hunger-strikers in women’s prisons. For her new movie, she has gone for a larky comedy caper – for me it didn’t gel, despite some divertingly surreal touches. Kelly Brook plays Kate, an out-of-work actor dumped by her boyfriend on the same day as being laid off from her humiliating stopgap job selling cutesy home furnishings. In a rage, she conceives a bizarre plan to rob this store of its cash takings, imitating her secret heroine, beret-wearing outlaw Bonnie Parker of Bonnie and Clyde fame. There are some nice exterior locations in King’s Cross, London: a nod to the Ealing classic The Ladykillers. It has a quirkiness that might have worked better on television.

Happy birthday to Faye Dunaway, who was put on this Earth 75 years ago (on January 14, 1941) for a reason: to play grand, old-school divas, aristocrats whose diction is as perfect as their cheekbones, women whose icy exteriors often crack to reveal volcanic passions beneath.
In recent years, she's been relegated to bit parts, but in her prime, she commanded the screen in a way that harkened back to the glamour goddesses of old Hollywood. Here are the five movies you need to see to grasp the full Faye.

Hit the deck! Rat-a-tat-tat!! These are the sounds of a cinema staple, the gangster genre. From the early silent days, “thugs with dirty mugs” were the source of many a “hit” at the box office, of course. Soon after the Brothers Warner began their studio, they quickly became the premiere producers of these “blood and thunder” morality plays, featuring a “murderers’ row” of movie icons headed by James Cagney, Edward G Robertson, and Humphrey Bogart. In the waning years of Hollywood’s Golden Age, these thrillers often merged with the biography genre with the stories of real-life 20’s and 30’s criminals like John Dillinger, Bonnie Parker, and Clyde Barrow, and, the big man himself, “Scarface” Al Capone. With the phenomenal success of The Godfather, these “public enemies” were back in vogue, continuing even to this day. Now the Warners are back in the true tale gangster biz, but they’re...

Michael Fassbender looks nothing like Steve Jobs: 7 actors who don't resemble real-life counterparts
Say what you like about Ashton Kutcher's Jobs movie, but it did hold one ace up its sleeve that the Danny Boyle-directed biopic doesn't - an actor who actually resembles the character they're playing.
We take a look at a handful of stars who don't look anything like the real-life people they played.
1. Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs
As brilliant an actor as the Shame star is, it's clear from the trailers for Danny Boyle's biopic that little has been done to make Fassbender look like the man he's portraying. Ashton Kutcher has him beat in that department (as does Noah Wyle if you go all the way back to Pirates of Silicon Valley), but with the talent involved here we're expecting Steve Jobs to be a cut above Jobs.
Intriguingly, prior to Fassbender's casting Christian Bale was circling the role before bowing out due to worries...

Those of us who lead hapless lives know how frightening getting up in the morning can be. Instead of rising and embracing the daylight with an ardent cuddle and a zealous "Yahoo!" we see grey clouds overhead and wonder aloud, "What now?" Another egg carton with broken shells? A second bedbug infestation within twelve months? Still no replies to our Christian Mingles ad even though we've noted we can recite the Book of Revelation by heart in Latin?

Love can be a many splendid thing…both in triumph and sometimes in tragedy. The emphasis of this sentiment is mainly on the latter as tragedy can be defined in various degrees of despair. Consequently, we have endured all sorts of conflict between lovers in cinema throughout the history of frequenting the movies.
In You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling: Top Ten Tragic Lovers in the Movies we will look at a selection of films where the tragic circumstances have shaped the foundation of film lovers convincingly. The tragic overtones come in all varieties: marital discourse, criminal activity, fraud, addiction, etc. Granted that there are probably bigger and better choices for lovey-dovey antagonism that could be cited in You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling but hey…the outcome remains the same: hampered relationships that are creatively rooted in turmoil.

#20. The Exorcist (1973)
Lost to: The Sting
Crammed in between two Best Picture wins for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Godfather” films was an interesting little year that rewarded another pairing of Robert Redford and Paul Newman (trivia: “The Sting’s” Julia Phillips is the first time female producer to ever win Best Picture). The other big landmark – the first time a purely horror film was nominated for Best Picture. “The Exorcist” was nominated for ten Oscars, winning for Sound and Adapted Screenplay. The horrifying story of a young girl possessed was, rumor has it, cursed as they tried to complete the film. This film about the struggle between faith and sin is possibly the most important horror film of all time.
#19. Avatar (2009)
Lost to: The Hurt Locker
The year after “The Dark Knight” and “Wall-e” missed out on Best Picture nominations, the Academy decided to change the rules and allow ten nominees.

20. Love/Chloe in the Afternoon (1972)
Directed by: Éric Rohmer
Originally titled “Love in the Afternoon,” but released in North America as “Chloe in the Afternoon,” this Rohmer film is a tale of possible infidelity, seen through the eyes of a conflicted man. Frédéric (Bernard Verley) is a successful young lawyer who is happily married to a teacher named Hélène (Françoise Verley), who is pregnant with their second child. While Frédéric is in a considerably good place in his life, he still struggles with the loss of excitement he had before he married, when he could sleep with whomever he chose. It wasn’t so much the sex that thrilled him, but the chase itself. Still, he feels that these thoughts and fantasies, paired with his refusal to act upon them, only proves that he is completely dedicated and in love with his own wife. That is, until he meets Chloé...

Thanks to the popular web series' new weekly schedule, a fresh installment of Erb arrived on November 17th, with Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig portraying leading ladies in a battle pitting Bonnie and Clyde against Romeo and Juliet. In the video, Hart plays Bonnie Parker alongside Lloyd Ahlquist's Clyde Barrow; on the other side of the matchup, Helbig's Juliet is paired with Peter Shukoff's Romeo. The battle features everything that makes Erb great, including detailed costumes, a fresh beat, and disses that are both educational and sharp. If the two-and-a-half minute battle doesn't do enough to satiate your Erb appetite, a behind-the-scenes video is available, as always, on the series' secondary channel. Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson are looking to star in a new film called Highwaymen. They will play the two Texas Rangers that hunted and killed the popular Depression Era bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.
John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is set to directed the film from a script written by John Fusco (Hidalgo, Young Guns). The drama "focuses on legendary lawman Frank Hamer, who was coaxed by a consortium of banks to assemble a posse and end the robbery reign of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in the 1930s." Hamer was an old-school Texas Ranger that killed 52 people and survived over 100 gunfights. He set his sights on Bonnie and Clyde after their gang organized a jail break and killed a guard.

Pair in talks for frontier drama, Highwaymen, about Texas rangers who pursued and killed the notorious duo
Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson are being courted for a new drama about the Texas rangers who killed Bonnie and Clyde, reports Deadline.
Highwaymen, which is due to be directed by The Blind Side's John Lee Hancock, centres on law enforcer Frank Hamer. A ranger who had brought peace to dozens of frontier towns during a long career in which he reputedly survived more than 100 gunfights, Hamer was appointed to head a posse charged with hunting down the notorious Barrow gang in 1934.
Hamer started hunting Bonnie and Clyde after the pair broke several inmates out of Eastham prison farm in Houston County – where Clyde Barrow himself had once been incarcerated – and killed a guard. Hamer was employed to end the gang's reign of terror, which had ranged across at least half a dozen Us states.

What is Casting Couch? It’s all part of a very simple process. Movie execs do the casting, the trades get the casting announcements, and then we put all of the news in one handy place. Today trios of big actors have been added to both Kung-Fu Panda 3 and Beware the Night. Jim Carrey’s casting in the upcoming comedy Ricky Stanicky has been a long time coming. According to Deadline, he’s been looking at this Black List script about a group of friends who have blamed everything they do wrong on a made up acquaintance named “Ricky Stanicky” their entire lives for about a year, and only just recently has decided to sign on to star. The deciding factor seems to be the fact that Steve Oedekerk has also come on board the project to direct, and Carrey already has experience working with him on Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. The story of bank robbers Bonnie Clyde is a familiar one, brought most famously to the screen by Arthur Penn in 1967. But what of the Texas Rangers who tracked them down and delivered brutal, bullet-ridden justice? Their story is one that John Lee Hancock and Universal want to tell, and they’re hoping Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson will be along for the ride in Highwaymen. The director and studio are teaming up with Media Rights Capital (which helped fund Ted) to back the film, based on John Fusco’s script.Highwaymen will focus on lawman Frank Hamer (we’d guess that’s the role they want Neeson to play), who was asked in the 1930s by a consortium of banks to track down Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. After the criminals organized a jailbreak and killed a guard, Hamer assembled a posse to stop them.Neeson has been busy...

Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland is making herself a second home over at Lifetime now that she’s been cast in the Lifetime/History miniseries Bonnie & Clyde. Airing in four parts, the miniseries will tell the well-known tale of Clyde Barrow (Emile Hirsch), the charismatic armed robber who swept Bonnie Parker (Holliday Grainger) off her feet and convinced her to be his partner in crime. They traveled the United States robbing various small shops and some banks. The story has been told many times before, but it’s yet to become boring. Hyland is just one of many high profile names joining the miniseries.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hyland will be playing Blanche Barrow, wife to Clyde’s brother Buck (Lane Garrison), a member of the Barrow Gang. It’ll be interesting to see Hyland, known for playing Haley Dunphy on Modern Family, portray a wanted criminal, even if...

They were young, they were in love and they were armed. The story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow has been holding the attention of the masses since tales of their bank robbing and violent crimes first appeared in newspapers in the 1930s and thanks to seminal 1967 flick Bonnie and Clyde, very pretty faces were attached to their names and Oscars were awarded for bringing this compelling story to life.
So you can't blame filmmakers for wanting to bring the story of this armed and dangerous couple to a new generation and Deadline Hollywood reports that Lifetime has teamed up with The History Channel to bring us a four-hour mini-series starring Emile Hirsch, in the role originated by Warren Beatty, and Brit thesp Holliday Grainger, taking over for Faye Dunaway. Some very stylish shoes to fill for sure.

Well, at least it's not Miley Cyrus, right? Lifetime is teaming with History Channel who are looking to continue the miniseries success they had with "Hatfields & McCoys" (true story: this writer couldn't make it past the first part) with another tale of outlaws and young love. That's right, "Bonnie & Clyde" are getting ready to ride again, and as much as we frown at this idea, the two leads are actually some pretty decent choices. Emile Hirsch and Brit actress Holliday Grainger ("Jane Eyre," "Anna Karenina") have been cast as the bank robbin' duo of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. While they're certainly not Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway (but c'mon, who is), they are two accomplished young actors that thankfully avoids Lifetime's usual stunt casting (see: everything they've ever produced). The four hour miniseries will tell the tale of the armed robber and small town waitress who go...

It's no secret that Jane Fonda is my favorite movie star of all time, so when she sits down with a gregarious homosexual (two, in fact -- hey, Sandra Bernhard!) on live late night TV and spills about Elizabeth Taylor ("A mensch!"), Faye Dunaway ("Sad."), and Ted Turner's misbegotten fling with Bo Derek, I need to make it everyone's responsibility to listen up.
First, let's learn about the role Jane desperately wanted and didn't get.
Next, let's watch as Jane spills on Lindsay Lohan, Faye Dunaway, Robert Redford, Katharine Hepburn, and Lily Tomlin.
And for the hell of it, let's watch as Jane and Sandra sort through a bunch of workout tape titles and pick out the real and phony ones.

Fox is developing a modern-day take on the story of Bonnie and Clyde. The pilot - from Ryan Tavlin (Without a Trace) - is a contemporary drama inspired by bank-robbing couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, Deadline reports. It will follow two young lovers from East Texas who go on a crime spree, becoming both wanted criminals and worldwide celebrities. The real-life tale of Bonnie and Clyde - who travelled across the United States committing robbery and murder throughout the early 1930s - was popularised by the Oscar-winning 1967 film, which starred Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as the couple. Last year, Limitless director Neil Burger signed up to make a new Bonnie and Clyde film starring Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers, but Duff was later dropped from the project. (more)...
