Embargos and NDAs aside, in four or five months, I'll be able to let readers know why it was so amusing to me that "The Amazing Race" spent a second consecutive Leg traveling through Morocco on Friday (October 31) night. That amusement held sway even though Friday's Leg was, as we've almost come to expect from "The Amazing Race" this season, a mixed bag of really good tasks, confusingly confusing tasks and gratuitously complicated tasks. It was a Leg that made me build more appreciation for the teams I already liked, gave a couple unexpected stars the chance to shine, but also failed to generate even an iota of tension or excitement surrounding its result. But I liked the scenery, I liked the Greeter with the chicken on his head and I'm sure that this "Amazing Race" episode set a record for most goat teat close-ups. And, staring down an impressive wall of exhaustion,...

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race certainly was not one of the most dynamic legs we’ve ever seen, but it was definitely one of the angriest.
Check out some of the quotes from this week:
Brent: Ladies get their way. Bitches don’t.
Carol : They U-Turned us because you’re prettier than she is”
Brandi: She’s on You Tube for a reason.
Carol: Get a good long shot of that bitchy mug
Well! Certainly sounds like somebody is pissing off some players on the race.
As it turns out, this was a battle that had been brewing since the very beginning of the race when Carol and Brandi insulted Caite for her colossal public embarrassment during the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007. Brent and Caite (rightly) took umbrage with the humiliation from Carol and Brandi and have had a vendetta against them ever since.

(S16E09) Yikes! I'm finding it hard to believe that we're down to five teams on 'The Amazing Race.' It seems like it just started a few weeks ago. Where has the season gone? The five remaining teams aren't necessarily the final five teams I would have predicted in the beginning. I really thought Steve and Allie or Joe and Heidi would have taken up a few of the last slots.
But both of those teams were Philiminated, so we're down to models, lesbians, cowboys, cops and young brothers, oh my. Well, the cowboys are brothers, too. Are the best teams still in the running? I can only say that since they haven't been eliminated, they deserve to be there. That doesn't mean I have to like them.

Amazing Race duo Steve and Allie Smith have revealed that they formed strong bonds during their time on the CBS show. The father-and-daughter team, who were eliminated from the competition on Sunday night's episode, told Digital Spy that they had made lifelong friendships with the other racers. "We really connected with so many people. Even people I wasn't necessarily super close to on the show, I find myself talking to almost every day," said Allie. Steve added: "Being in baseball, I travel everywhere, (more)...

After a winning leg in the Seychelles (at the expense of losing their bags), the father-daughter duo Steve and Allie Smith ran a muddled leg in Malaysia and were eliminated on Sunday's Amazing Race. "Being in sports, that's what happens sometimes. You have a great day one day and a horrible one the next," Steve, the Cleveland Indians third base coach, tells TVGuide.com. "I'm not saying we were the best team, but we were good and we felt like we were on a roll and had a good opportunity to win. One little thing knocks you out." In this case, it was multiple, direction-challenged cab drivers. Find out how much time they bled shuffling between Detours, what Allie, 23, blames herself for, and what Steve, 57 — who won a World Series ring with the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies — wishes he had in Malaysia.

It's disappointing to see a team that's done so well on The Amazing Race to be eliminated, more so when you come from first place to last in one leg. Steve and Allie went through just that last week: in the front of the pack for most of the race, they finished first two weeks ago in Seychelles, only to drop to last in Malaysia and get eliminated. You can blame the taxis for that.
It's sad, since they were a really fun team to watch. I got a taste of that when I talked to them--it was good hearing them really have fun with each other. We chatted about those missing backpacks, their relationship with Joe and Heidi, and Allie's plans to dance to the Amazing Race theme song at her wedding.

Dan called this week’s leg of The Amazing Race the most difficult the racers had faced so far, but what made it challenging, specifically Dan and Jordan and Steve and Allie, were the tough decisions they needed to make during the leg.
Michael said it best when he reiterated an age old The Amazing Race adage that a cab can be the difference between winning and losing a million dollars. Typically the statement pertains to the cab drivers and how fast they drive, what route they take, etc. This week the cabs were a vital component to the episode, but only with respect to how the teams managed their cab rides.
From the start of the episode, cabs played a crucial role in determining a team’s fate. In the normal sense of how cabs impact the race, Dan and Jordan lucked into the best cab driver in Malaysia...

What's the best explanation for the weird stuff that happened on The Amazing Race last night? They weren't really mistakes. They were more of gambles that didn't pay off--but, again, there seemed to be too many of them this week that the end result was a leg that saw a frontrunner drop to the bottom of the pack without any U-turn. I guess it's just a change of environment: a 21-hour flight leading to Malaysia's bustling heat changes things a lot.
Things may have gone terribly wrong, but there were a handful of silver linings in last night's episode, which brings us to my post-leg honors. While it's sad to see Steve and Allie go, and all because of the little things rather than a complicated conspiracy of sorts (Joe and Heidi, hello!) there are still a few things to be happy about. I think.

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race takes place in Malaysia, the archipelago nation of southeast Asia. The tropical climate was well-received by front-runner father/daughter team Steve and Allie. Last week, the pair made a monumental blunder by forgetting their backpacks during a challenge. Far too involved in the race to backtrack and retrieve the forgotten goods, Steve and Allie opted instead to venture on without them, choosing to complete the race with nothing more than their passports and the clothes off their back.
Teams were instructed to fly from the African island nation of Seychelles all the way across the Indian Ocean to the city of Penang, Malaysia. Once there, teams needed to seek out Snake Temple. The Buddhist temple was constructed in 1850, and the name is quite appropriate. Inside, hundreds of snakes live inside uninhibited. Sadly, no team had the foresight to make an Indiana Jones joke.

A lot was made going into this week’s episode of “The Amazing Race” about the handicap facing cowboys Jet and Cord, who face a Speed Bump in this week’s trip to Malaysia, but I didn’t really see the concern. My problem, I think, is that the entire race seems to be facing some sort of handicap: Steve and Allie are without their luggage, and if we’re being completely honest some of the other teams aren’t exactly operating with a full toolbox in terms of strategy or general intelligence. Last week’s episode saw the teams living up to our expectation from the premiere...

When Steve and Allie check into first to the Pit Stop for the seventh leg of The Amazing Race, Phil asks them if they noticed that the theme of the leg has been the number seven. What he really should have asked them is if they’ve noticed the theme was carelessness.
We normally hear the foreboding clash sound that CBS likes to use to indicate when a team has made an error once, maybe twice, an episode. This week? A whopping five of the biggest and most preventable blunders in The Amazing Race history!
(I certainly have to qualify my claim with preventable because there have been plenty of worse blunders on the race that topped what the Detour-botching racers did this week. But, in terms of being preventable? I’m not sure the Ox Trot mistakes can be topped).

My brother loves geography. He is currently at college studying for a career in geospatial technology. When his classmates were learning the basic fundamentals of subtraction, he memorized all fifty Us states and their capitals. In fifth grade, he competed in a statewide geography bee. He can currently name all 195 nations of the world and can nearly name all their capitals and largest cities. As such, when he hears of some small, obscure nation like Seychelles, his synapses connect and form a reaction similar to how you and I would react to Mexico.

The fifth leg of The Amazing Race started with a small wrinkle. Instead of a traditional 12-hour pit stop in the place they ended the previous leg, the teams were put on a bus for a traveling pit stop. The bus’s destination? No one knew. Well, we, the viewers, knew - Les Monthairons, France - but the teams racing did not.
Initially this seems like a really cool comment and gets some fun mat quotes such as we took a bus from “Hamburg to…here. Wherever here is” from Jet and Cord, but ultimately doesn’t really add much to the leg. I feel like they really could do more with this concept to give the leg a unique feel to it, but dropping them off in France is hardly that challenging. At least not as challenging as it could be.

Welcome Back Racers! Time for another recap of The Amazing Race! Last week we left our racers in Argentina and saw the Cowboys continue to pull ahead of the other racers for their second consecutive win, and Monique and Shawne found themselves in last place at the mat and were eliminated. Well, hold on to your cowboy hats because we're in for a bumpy ride this week!!
In this leg, teams travel from Argentina to Hamburg, Germany! Finally, we're out of South America! The Cowboys (Jet & Cord) kick off the leg and the Cops (Louie & Michael) are tired of coming in at the bottom of the pack. The Princesses (Carol & Brandy) realize they had a lot of problems communicating in the last leg, so this time around they're going to try to be more respectful to each other – we'll see how long that lasts. Brother Dan confesses he hates to...

Last night on The Amazing Race, the cowboys, Jet and Cord, took the lead again to become the first ones to arrive at the pit stop for the second week in a row. Brent and Caite started the leg in the hospital but managed to arrive seventh at the pit stop. Clips and other highlights from last night's episode after the jump:
Detour--teams had to choose between Horse Sense and Horse Power. In Horse Sense, teams visited a gunslinger who gave them a set of directional coordinates. Then, using an old-time compass for reference, teams had to follow the coordinates by counting out the specific number of steps given, to find a bag of stolen money buried in the ground. Then they had to deliver the money to the lead bandit at the train station. If the coordinates on the bag matched those on their sheet, the lead band would give them their next clue.

Last week, Jet and Cord looked unbeatable.
This week? Let's just say our opinion hasn't changed much.
The entire leg seemed tailor-made for the cowboys, something Carol and Brandi complained about at the roadblock. While it certainly isn't 100% fair, neither is life, Brandi. Jet and Cord appropriately pointed out that they are not complaining (you get the sense these two have complained about something maybe once in their life) about how unfair it is that Carol and Brandi speak Spanish, but they do not.
Considering that the while race has been in Spanish-speaking countries so far, that’s a far bigger advantage than Jet and Cord running into a steer roping challenge on one leg. Imagine, however, if the detour involved riding real horses instead of the practice one. Jet and Cord might have been a half of a day ahead of the other teams.

Welcome back Race Fans! Tonight we start where we left off, in Puerto Varas, Chile. Last week the Grandmother/Grandmother team of Jody & Shannon were eliminated, and the Cowboys, Jet & Cord won the leg, and started in first place tonight. Once again, they begin exactly 12 hours after they finished the last leg, so our Racers have been going for 3 days straight! I imagine exhaustion and stress will be taking it's toll. So let's see how they do:
We start out with some beautiful scenic shots of Puerto Varas' snow capped mountains, grassy parks, and antique statues and monuments. It really makes you want to visit this part of the world, and reminds you of the tragic Earthquake that rocked the country this past week. The teams start off taking one of two buses on a six hour trek through the Andes Mountains and cross the border into Argentina. Then they...

The momentum of Jet and Cord continued on The Amazing Race this week, as they made one correct move after another and rocketed into first place.
What the cowboys truly have going for them right now is a calm demeanor. Even while in last place during the premiere, they never seemed to panic or lose perspective on what was in front of them. By remaining serene, Jet and Cord nailed the painting challenge in the premiere and then masterfully handled bus situation from Santiago to Puerto Varas.
Their outmaneuvering of the other nine teams put them well ahead going in the two challenges and they finished the leg mistake free for a victory.
I felt they were the favorites going into the season, but quickly lamented my selection at the start of the race. Now? They look unbeatable.
Their Lone Ranger approach to the game with a singular attitude – only...

Helloooo Race fans! Last week our teams traveled to Chile, and this week continue to travel the Chilean countryside, and it is truly a beautiful place to be – even if today's race is a little overcast and rainy.
We start off where left our racers last week, at Valparaiso, Chile, with Jeff and Jordan (Team Jj) in the lead. Teams are allowed to begin this leg of the race exactly 12 hours after they finished the last leg. Team Jj finished at 3:21 pm, so they begin at 3:21 am. and travel back to Santiago, Chile where they then board another bus for a 500+ mile trip to Puerto Varas. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong!
Team Jj gets to the bus station first, but it is not open yet and we get some amusing footage of Jeff trying to communicate with the Spanish speaking locals using what I can only describe as Spanish sign language,...

Nestled deep in the Andes Mountains is the coastal nation of Chile; the location of this week’s episode of The Amazing Race. Departing from the beautiful city of Valparaiso, frontrunners Jordan and Jeff led the pack. Upon departure, The Big Brother alumni were given a lengthy set of instructions. First, they were directed to the Valparaiso bus station, where they would ride to the Chilean capital of Santiago. Once there, they must take another bus south to Puerto Varas, a trip well over 575 miles. In Puerto Varas, teams had to drive themselves to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, take a boat trip to Isla Margarita, then hike uphill to Mirador, an outlook over Todos los Santos Lake. Mind you, this cumbersome journey was simply the directions to the first challenge.

Last week, I made fun of the constants on this season's "The Amazing Race," referring to this as the "All-Stupid" season. I singled out several teams -- Brent & Caite, Jordan & Jeff, Jet & Cord, Steve & Allie -- for spectacular intellectual boners and anticipated a season characterized more by mental blunders than any smart racing. At least temporarily, I have to pause and take off my cowboy hat to Jet & Cord, who were funny, likable and, dare I say it, smart in Sunday (Feb. 21) night's episode of "The Amazing Race," titled "When the Cow Kicked Me...
