Lucknow, May 8 (Ians) All Hanuman temples in the state capital are being spruced up for the ‘Bada Mangal’ festival that is celebrated on every Tuesday during the Hindu month of Jyestha. The festival, interestingly, was celebrated only in Lucknow but is now being held in other parts of the state as well.
This year Bada Mangal will fall on May 9, 16, 23 and 30.
According to the popular legend, the tradition was started by Janab-e-Alia, the Hindu wife of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah, in the late 18th century.
“The Begum could not conceive and someone told her to pray at the Hanuman temple in Aliganj. She complied and was blessed with a son. She dreamt of a divine entity commanding her to build a Hanuman temple, so she got the old temple renovated and a new one built and thus began the Bada Mangal celebration and fair – a tradition which continues till date,” said secretary...

A project nurtured over 12 long years and conceptualized by one of Bollywood’s premiere directors at the forefront of historical epics, which oftentimes are interwoven with enchanting Indian mythos of years past. Inspired by the Marathi novel ‘Rau’ by the late Nagnath S. Inamdar, Sanjay Bhansali brings to life this visually arresting story of a 18th century Peshwa (akin to a modern-day prime minister) Bajirao’s love triangle with a Muslim maiden Mastani and his wife Kashibai. ‘A will as immovable as the Himalayas’ leads the charge as this tragic saga unfolds, an allegory of intimacy, lust and passion set against the bubbling racial instability of the Hindu Maratha Empire.
Emperor Chhatrapati Shahu (Mahesh Manjrekar) is looking for the next Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. Before he could appoint one of his courtiers as the next leader, a defiant Bajirao Ballal (Ranveer Singh) barges into the court and challenges the man for the prestigious role.

The cinematically grandeur hall of fame that is known as the Sanjay Leela Bhansali epics has another film to its feature wall. The era, the costumes, the sets… everything is at the scale of the veteran filmmaker modus operandi. Yet there is something about Bajirao Mastani that doesn’t fall into the niche as perfectly as its predecessors. It isn’t that Bhansali isn’t appropriate as a director for the historical and politically enticing tale of forbidden love. But somewhere in the research for the costumes, dialect, history and big screen adaptation of Nagnath S Inamdar’s Marathi novel Rau, we have missing pieces that point back to the veteran and his writing team, which includes himself, Mallika Dutt Gharde and Prakash Kapadia.
The story of love that destroyed the lovers themselves but stood strong in their hearts is quite familiar to most. We have enough examples. Bajirao Mastani...

The entire shooting of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ambitious historical Bajirao Mastani has been wrapped up. And now, Sanjay Leela Bhansali gets ready for the biggest battle of his career.
Bhansali seems all set to take on the formidable Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale which releases on the same day December 18, with no possibility of either juggernaut release moving away in time before the big collision at the box-office.
To ensure optimum results, the filmmaker-composer has also edited the film completely. All post-production including the background music of Bajirao Mastani is complete.
Says a source close to the project, "Last week, the entire shooting was wrapped up. Aur mazey ki baat yeh hai ke editing bhi ho gaya. Sanjay's editor Rajesh Pandey who has earlier edited Sanjay's Goliyon Ki Raaslila Ram Leela was on the job, as the shooting progressed. The editing got done while the shooting was in progress.
