We wake up, with our protagonist, knocking back a miniature bottle of vodka and heading into the office. Living the dream. Before we know what is happening, a sacked employee is stalking the halls of the office with a gun. Not even the ladies toilets is sacred.
It is at this point that our protagonist realises that she might need to make some changes in her life. After being caught drunk, in a dangerous situation. She is signed off work and is told to take some time to get herself healthy. She pours a load of booze down the sink and drives dangerously at night. She wakes up, and she has made it to the titular Bright Hill Road, a boarding house where she checks in. Marcy is on her way to visit her sisters in California,...

Directing a horror movie is never an easy feat but for Canadian director Robert Cuffley, his first foray into the genre was a liberating experience.
Shot in one location and featuring a stupendous performance from Siobhan Williams, Bright Hill Road is a deeply unsettling movie about a woman losing her mind in a place that might just be haunted.
I recently had a chance to speak with Cuffley about his new film and we covered everything from casting and editing to tips on how to make movies look more expensive than their budget.
Bright Hill Road is now available on DVD and on-demand.

Canadian director Robert Cuffley's credits over the years have included a wide variety of projects from dramas and comedies to thrillers but they all have one thing in common. They all feature outstanding performances from actors on the verge of a breakout: Katharine Isabelle, Leelee Sobieski, Amanda Crew and most recently Siobhan Williams in Bright Hill Road.
Cuffley's first foray into horror isn't full of jump-scares or gore, the type of horror movie one might expect from a filmmaker looking to make a short-lived splash. Instead, the movie is clearly the work of a filmmaker who values story, character, and focuses on performance to really get at the heart of the thing: in this case, a woman on the verge of a mental breakdown.

High school, according to TV and movies, is either the best or worst thing that can happen to a person. It’s almost always depicted as the most fun a kid can have, or a horrifying hellhole from which there’s no escape. “Deadly Class” is decidedly in the latter camp — and despite its edgy attempts otherwise, doesn’t particularly find a new way to show it.
Adapted from Rick Remender’s comic book series and produced by the Russo brothers, “Deadly Class” travels back to 1987 to tell the unlucky story of Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth), an orphan who gets recruited out of homelessness to enroll in the King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts. Headed up by the exacting Master Lin (Benedict Wong), King’s is like Hogwarts, if Hogwarts was brimming over with snarling teens training to become vicious assassins. And in fact, the best directing comes...

There are a ton of buzzy new shows coming to TV screens in early 2019, but few have drummed up as much attention as Deadly Class.
The upcoming Syfy show is based on Rick Remender's bestselling graphic novel series of the same name, which follows a teenager (Benjamin Wadsworth) who finds himself recruited into King's Dominion, a high school that functions as a training ground for the world's deadliest assassins. To All the Boys I've Loved Before's Lana Condor stars as fellow trainee Saya Kuroki, along with Liam James, Benedict Wong, and Siobhan Williams.
Though the series doesn't premiere until Jan. 16, Condor has done us all a solid by sharing the pilot on Twitter. That means, regardless of whether or not science fiction is your thing, you still owe it to yourself to check out Deadly Class.

Season 3 Episode 3
“It’s like the history of vampires being played out in my subconscious.”
Though it occupies only the blink of an eye in real time, the education of Vanessa Van Helsing continues with another brief and fascinating journey into the past. “I Awake” not only serves up a dramatic shift in time and space, but this cast-lite episode immerses Vanessa in a foreign world in which she surprisingly finds herself quickly at home. And while Kelly Overton appears alone among the series regulars, Van Helsing, nonetheless, manages to spin a tantalizing tale that neatly sets up the next leg of Vanessa’s Elder quest.
Let’s be honest. While Vanessa’s single minded pursuit of the Elders’ totems remains the current central focus of Van Helsing,...

"Forget about school, it's time to party." An official trailer has debuted online for an Canadian indie comedy film titled Adventures in Public School, formerly known as Public Schooled when it premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival. The film is about a socially awkward home-schooled kid named Liam who forces his way into attending public school against his "suffocating but loving" mother's wishes. The talented Judy Greer stars as the mother, and the kid is played by Daniel Doheny. The cast also includes Siobhan Williams, Russell Peters, Grace Park, Andrew McNee, Alex Barima, Andrew Herr, and Eva Day. I don't recall hearing much about this from Tiff last year, but it seems like it might be a fun coming-of-age comedy about parenting and school life. I like that Greer seems to be having as much crazy fun as her son is. Here's the first official trailer for Kyle Rideout's Adventures in Public School,...

Public Schooled, Kyle Rideout’s Toronto-bowing comedy starring Judy Greer, has been picked up by Gravitas Ventures for the U.S., Australia and South Africa. The news was announced by Kaleidoscope Film Distribution and XYZ Films.
Based on an original script co-written by Rideout and Josh Epstein, Public Schooled follows a socially-awkward boy who has been homeschooled his entire life. When he falls in love with a popular one-legged girl, he abandons his mother’s suffocating love and enrolls in public school, getting a crash course in sex, drugs and mayhem. Daniel Doheny, Siobhan Williams and Russell Peters also star.

Deadly Class, an assassin high school show, is coming to Syfy courtesy of the Russo Brothers. Here's what we know so far.
Rick Remender and Wes Craig's graphic novel, Deadly Class, has received the adaptation treatment courtesy of the Russo Brothers and will now be airing on Syfy.
The graphic novels, which debuted for Image Comics back in 2014, follow a group of teenagers as they make their way through San Francisco's late '80s punk scene and also a high school for assassins. The book focuses on Marcus Lopez, a homeless Nicaraguan teen who gets recruited for the school. His first decision as a student is to kill Ronald Reagan, and that's somehow the least bad decision he makes in the entire book.

Judy Geer is a treasure, whether she's lighting up a comedy or strengthening a drama, so whenever she appears in a film, it means that attention must be paid. In a fresh clip from Public Schooled, her sad, soulful side is showcased, as she says goodbye to her teenage son ... forever! Or, at least until the end of the school day. The film revolves around the young man in the clip: "Socially awkward, Liam has been homeschooled his entire life. The western movie streak continues! There have been a lot of good westerns recently that include The Hateful Eight, Bone Tomahawk, and Slow West, and Jane Got a Gun is coming up. We’ve got another one on the way called Forsaken, and it stars father and son duo Kiefer and Donald Sutherland. I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty cool to see the Sutherlands starring in a movie together like this. It looks like it will be a decent film worth checking out, especially if you’re into westerns.
In 1872, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer Sutherland) retires as a gunfighter and returns to his hometown of Fowler, Wyoming in hope of repairing his relationship with his estranged father, Reverend Clayton (Donald Sutherland). However, he soon learns that the town is in turmoil, as the railroad will be coming through the area and a criminal gang is terrorizing ranchers who refuse to sell their land.

"Are them stories true about the men you killed?" Momentum Pictures has debuted a trailer for the western Forsaken, about an embittered gunslinger who attempts to make amends with his estranged father whilst their community is besieged by ruthless land-grabbers. The film stars father and son duo Kiefer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland, along with Demi Moore, Michael Wincott, Brian Cox, Landon Liboiron and Siobhan Williams. This has been a very strong season for westerns, including Bone Tomahawk and The Hateful Eight, as well as the underrated Slow West. There's also Jane Got a Gun coming up, but this also looks like a solid indie western worth checking out. Plus it's cool to see the two Sutherlands in a movie. Hell on Wheels returns Aug. 2, and the AMC Western—which parlayed Saturday night success into an expanded 13-episode fourth season—will have more than one new face. One that might surprise fans is that of Cullen’s young Mormon bride, Naomi. Originally played by Siobhan Williams, the character was introduced early last season when the railroad carved its way through her family’s Nebraska homestead. Cullen (Anson Mount) had sex with her once in the barn, but then had to hang her brother after her trigger-happy father blamed his son for killing of a member of the railroad police. In the season 3 finale,...

ABC recently cancelled several shows (Mixology, Suburgatory, Betrayal, etc.) and renewed many others (Resurrection, Revenge, The Goldbergs, etc.). What about the new Black Box series that airs on Thursday nights?

While ABC hasn't cancelled Black Box, they surely will. The ratings have just been too low to be renewed for a second season.

ABC gave Black Box a straight-to-series order and ordered 13 episodes without seeing a pilot first. They held it until late in the season (typically not a good sign) on Thursdays at 10pm as a replacement for their hit show, Scandal. Will Black Box live up to expectations? Will it be a ratings success and earn a second season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
