Danny Dyer stars alongside creator and writer Ryan Sampson in Mr Bigstuff, and here’s the trailer for the new sitcom.
Danny Dyer may be better known these days as Mick Carter in EastEnders, but before that, he’d been a steady presence in British film for over two decades, from his debut in Justin Kerrigan’s Human Traffic through The Football Factory and Severance.
The one thing Dyer had never done was lead a sitcom – until now. Mr Bigstuff is created and written by Ryan Sampson, who’s perhaps best known for starring alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst and Celia Imrie in BBC sitcom After You’ve Gone, and for co-starring in ITV2 sitcom Plebs.
The synopsis, per the British Comedy Guide, reads as follows:
Mr Bigstuff explores broken families, fragile masculinity and carpet sales. It tells the story of two estranged brothers; Glen (Ryan Sampson), a nervy perfectionist striving to live...

"We don't run from our problems." Sky TV has revealed an official UK trailer for a comedy series titled Mr. Bigstuff, arriving to watch in the UK starting this July (though no US launch yet). The series stars actor Danny Dyer, best known for his various "tough guy" roles like Moff in Human Traffic, Tommy Johnson in The Football Factory, and Mick Carter in Eastenders. When two estranged brothers Glen (Ryan Sampson) and Lee (Danny Dyer) find themselves under one roof in "idyllic" suburbia, their lives start to unravel faster than a cheap carpet. Glen is a nervy perfectionist and carpet salesman striving to live a suburban ideal and Lee is an alpha male with a prescription drug addiction and a tin full of their dad's ashes. Written & created by Ryan Sampson, this "relatable, irreverent comedy about brotherhood, manhood and carpet sales" is set in Essex. Also with Harriet Webb,...

Jack Rooke’s sitcom Big Boys returns to Channel 4 in January, and the details of the new run have landed.
Big Boys, Jack Rooke’s autobiographical sitcom about his experience at university, was one of the comedic treats of last year.
Derry Girls’ Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing play two disparate young men, Jack and Danny, who find themselves as roommates in their first year of University. The former is closeted and sensitive, the latter is full of boorish bonhomie, but despite their differences they form a touching, tender bond, and Rooke’s writing covers everything from Jack exploring his sexuality to Danny’s mental health.
It proved a hit for Channel 4, which didn’t waste an awful lot of time in ordering up more episodes. Those episodes are nearly with us, too.
What’s more, we now have a synopsis for series two, which reads as follows:

In the world of Medusa Deluxe, beauticians wield scissors like knives and hairsprays like pistols. Hairstyling competitions are fraught spaces stacked with talented participants. Anyone can tame an unruly mane, but only a handful can turn it into a work of art.
“I’m in the middle of a Georgian fontange,” one stylist snaps in the opening scene of Thomas Hardiman’s exciting directorial debut. “You can’t just walk away from that shit.” Tensions are high in this dressing room. Outside the door, police patrol the hall. Sirens blare in the distance. The death of Mosca (John Alan Roberts), one of the stylists, has paused the competition and forced a temporary lockdown.
The atmosphere is thick with suspicion. This is a cutthroat bunch, a community whose members convene annually to flaunt their skills and prove themselves. There are public alliances and private allegiances. Betrayals abound, too. Everyone has a theory.

There’s been a scalping at a Northern England hairdressing competition.
It’s all any of the hairdressers — “hair artists” might be a better description, given the towering Marie Antoinette-level coifs and rainbow-colored cascades and expertly sculpted geometric ‘dos they’ve designed — can talk about. The victim is Mosca, the presumed frontrunner before being found dead and mutilated. No one’s canceled the event, however, and his peers are prepping their models for the runway. The show must go on.
As for the suspects — well, where do we start?...

Few, if any, single-shot movies ever justify the conceit. In fact, most of them do their material a disservice through the distraction that emerges naturally from the trickery. In other words, audiences are often put into the position of looking for the seams in the filmmaking, on the hunt for evidence of the artifice. In the case of writer-director Thomas Hardiman’s Medusa Deluxe, though, artifice is the entire raison d’être.
Set within the backstages of a cutthroat hairdressing competition, the film opens with a riled-up Cleve (played with dazzling fire by Clare Perkins) recounting the story’s inciting incident while fussing over a disgruntled model’s coif. Stylist Mosca (John Alan Roberts), presumed to be heavy competition, has not only been discovered dead, but also scalped. The remaining contestants are now sheltering in place and turbo-gossiping about who his presumed murderer could possibly be. At the same time,...

A24’s released the official trailer for Medusa Deluxe, a murder mystery from first-time feature film director Thomas Hardiman. The trailer reveals the twisted behind-the-scenes world of a hairstyling competition, with intricate – and bizarre – hairstyles competing with talk of a murderer in their midst.
The film currently sits at 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes following a festival run. Little White Lies’ Cheyenne Bunsie says “Hardiman makes a directorial debut that successfully injects a fresh, vibrant perspective into the murder mystery genre while still employing the dark dread that stands as its trademark.” And Indiewire’s Marisa Mirabal calls it “an arresting and visually stunning achievement.”
Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Clare Perkins, Darrell D’Silva, Debris Stevenson, and Harriet Webb star. The cast also includes Heider Ali, Kae Alexander, Kayla Meikle, Lilit Lesser, Luke Pasqualino, and Nicholas Karimi.

Last year, we shared the news that Fremantle’s Euston Films is set to produce a six-part horror comedy series called Wrecked for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Euston’s Noemi Spanos and BBC’s Tommy Bulfin executive produced the show, which has been written by Ryan J. Brown – who said he “wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of Scream, the unsettling atmosphere of The Shining and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of The Cabin in the Woods.” Wrecked is now set to premiere at London’s Fright Fest on August 26th (the show will launch on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer later this autumn), and in anticipation of the premiere a batch of images from the show have arrived online… images that seem to reveal that the killer wears a duck costume and is called Quacky! The images can be seen...

In “Medusa Deluxe,” the serpents aren’t in the hair, but all around it: a writhing, hissing collective of human predators slinking around the various parlors and platforms of a high-level hairdressing competition. Most are venomous, and at least one is deadly, or so it seems when a star stylist is found, not just murdered but quite literally scalped, the night before his widely expected victory in the contest. That’s the setup for British writer-director Thomas Hardiman’s splashy, hooky debut feature “Medusa Deluxe,” an arch, gossip-fueled murder mystery that delights more in rounding up its many unusual suspects than in any kind of logical, procedural detective work: Whodunnit isn’t a pressing question in a film where everyone is 100 that bitch.

I May Destroy You was one of the most critically-acclaimed and most-talked about television shows of 2020, despite what the Golden Globes say.
However, Michaela Coel has always said that the 12-episode series, which is a co-production between HBO and the BBC, was intended as a one-off. “When you see the final episode, you’ll know,” she said last year.
That said, HBO would like to remain in business with the Chewing Gum creator, who also runs her own Falkna Productions, for whatever she is planning next.
“She is noodling ideas and I hope anything she comes up with, we would be able to participate in,” Casey Bloys, chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max told Deadline.
Coel herself told the Obsessed With… podcast that she did have an idea for another series. “It is in the back of my mind,” she said. “And I keep telling this idea to...

In 2015, Michaela Coel’s screenwriting debut was the brilliant Chewing Gum, an E4 comedy that earned her two Baftas, an Rts win, several nominations and a considerable weight of expectation for what she’d write next.
What Coel wrote next is I May Destroy You, a BBC-HBO co-production announced last year under the working title of January 22nd. It’s the autobiographically inspired story of Bella (played by Coel), a young London writer whose drink is spiked on a night out. When she tries to piece together the events of what happened, Bella goes on a personal journey through trauma and pain that examines questions of sexual consent, liberation and exploitation in contemporary London.
Arriving on HBO and BBC One this June, here’s the latest trailer and more…

HBO has released the official trailer for “I May Destroy You,” its hotly-anticipated topical new TV series from Michaela Coel, the BAFTA-winning creator of “Chewing Gum.” Coel executive produces, writes, co-directs and stars in the series, which the network promises will be bold and candid, exploring the question of sexual consent in the present day given how much the landscape of dating and relationships has changed. And given Coel’s previous work, as well as the look of the trailer, it likely will be provocative.
HBO is certainly no stranger to envelope-pushing series. And “I May Destroy You” will likely fit in perfectly on the network that Zendaya’s “Euphoria” — or any number of its hard-hitting documentaries — call home.
Previously titled “January 22nd,” the official synopsis for “I May Destroy You” reads: “Set in London, where gratification is only an app away, the story centers on Arabella (Coel), a carefree,...
