The Atx Television Festival has unveiled a second wave of programming for its eighth season, which will now include the premiere of the HBO teen drama Euphoria from Sam Levinson.
Also on tap for the festival, which this year runs June 6-9 in Austin, is ABC’s always-popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, a screening of an all-new episode of Freeform’s Grown-ish and an advance screening of a brand spanking new Archer episode. Kevin Bacon is also slated to join the festival’s previously announced presentation of the never-picked-up Tremors pilot from writer/executive producer Andrew Miller and based on the 1990 ncult horror pic.

Archer is ready to party like it’s 1999 — in space! The new season of FX’s long-running animated series announced its new title for Season 10, and despite the futuristic setting, the new moniker alludes to a time 19 years in the past.
“Blast off to: ‘Archer: 1999,'” executive producer Casey Willis announced Friday evening in San Diego.
Willis was joined by fellow executive producer Matt Thompson, art director Chad Hurd, and cast members H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of Archer), Jessica Walter (Mallory), Chris Parnell (Cyril), Amber Nash (Pam), and Lucky Yates, who was dressed in a parrot costume to honor his Season 9 character. FX didn’t have any footage to show the Comic-Con guests, but fans already got a glimpse of next season’s footage during the “Archer: Danger Island” finale.
“We’ve literally just started working on it over the last couple weeks,” Ep Matt Thompson said. “We recorded the first episode.

When Adam Reed pitched his “James Bond meets ‘Arrested Development’” spy series to FX, he always intended for it to be animated because that was his area of expertise.
The cabler, which prides itself on having a slate of successful shows that are “radical deconstructions and reconstructions of genre,” per CEO John Landgraf, did not blink at the idea of adding “Archer,” an adult cartoon, to its lineup in 2009. And as the years have gone by, an increase in animator talent and an evolution of digital technology has allowed the show to take more creative risks.
“When we started it was really just eight of us in this house in East Atlanta,” art director Chad Hurd says. “The house style was limited animation [and] everything was drawn in Adobe Illustrator. We storyboarded everything to be very, very user friendly, but the animation was a little stiffer.”

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly boasts a six-page article on the hit FX spy spoof Archer, an interview with star H. Jon Benjamin, and creator Adam Reed’s favorite episodes. (Elsewhere on EW.com you’ll find an exclusive photograph of the entire Archer “cast” and a guide to the show’s running gags.) But how exactly does the Archer behind-the-scenes team create the show’s remarkable animation? Using a recent sex scene between Sterling and supposed Colombian drug cartel godmother La Madrina as an example, art director Neal Holman details the crafting of the Sterling sausage. (Phrasing!!!)

Jennifer Yuh Nelson's "Kung Fu Panda 2" dominated the Annie Awards nominations, but the International Animated Film Society decided to give its highest honor -- the Best Animated Feature award -- to Gore Verbinski's "Rango." Both films are from DreamWorks Animation and they still have to duke it out at the upcoming Oscars in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
Besides the Best Animated trophy, "Rango" also collected awards for Best Editing and Writing. But Nelson, the first woman to direct a feature film animation from a major Hollywood production company, won the Directing in a Feature Production award! Yay! (Check out my interview with Jennifer Yuh Nelson for "Kung Fu Panda 2" right here)
The Annie Awards winners were announced yesterday at the UCLA Royce Hall in Los Angeles.

I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

Pixar's "Cars 2" received seven nominations, while Disney's "Winnie the Pooh" took eight nods but was oddly missing in the Best Animated Feature category.
