According to director Matthew Vaughn, if he returns to helm a sequel to X-Men: First Class, it'll only be the One new mutant he adds to the superhero team to take on Magneto. Well, here's your chance to decide which character that should be! Right now, we have no idea whether or not they'll stick to the continuity of the previous three movies, although the reviews and recent comments from Vaughn strongly indicate that this is the start of a new series rather than a prequel. For that reason, I've included as many of the past and present most popular X-Men I could think of. Cast your vote and check back in a few days for the results! X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men. Starring James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme, Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Oliver Platt as the Man in Black, Jason Flemyng as Azazel and...

June 3rd is going to be an interesting day. It's going to be the day when we learn whether or not Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class is a pile of revisionist, money-grabbing crap... or a savvy, interesting and well-portrayed bit of retconned cleverness. At this point, I'm leaning towards the latter -- but only slightly.
In any event, Fox has released a series of brief character vignettes, and they're actually quite good. Particularly fun was the one on Banshee, though their depiction of the burgeoning romance between Mystique and Beast is also somewhat interesting -- even if it's completely divergent from the comics. Anyway, here are the four that have come out so far:
Alex Summers, aka Havok:
Sean Cassidy, aka Banshee:
Henry "Hank" McCoy, aka Beast:
Raven Darkholme, aka Mystique:...

Today will be an epic day for any Marvel Comics fan, especially those who adore the X-Men (like me). In an MTV exclusive, daring video profiles for three mutants from the upcoming movie, X-Men: First Class, were unleashed.
Are you ready to get to know Banshee, Havok, and the new Beast, up close and personal? I know I am! Will Chuck be able to help these kids control their super powers? Don’t miss the new film trailer, or the very comic book-ish new poster.
This version is of Banshee is a little young, no? Comic book readers will remember Professor Xavier (MacAvoy) and Moira (Rose Byrne) have had their romantic entanglements, but Moira has also been linked as Banshee’s girl. Ruh-roh.
Actor: Caleb Landry Jones
Character’s Proper Name: Sean Cassidy
Ability: Sonic Scream

With an onslaught of comic book movies coming our way, X-Men: First Class is standing out from the crowd by playing the game a little differently. Not content with letting Thor steal its thunder with hammer-swinging, Green Lantern outshining its own dazzling effects or Captain America punching its way to the top, First Class is keeping itself in a mystery box, slowly leaking out snippets of footage and relying heavily on performance. Xavier would be proud: it seems director Matthew Vaughn has found a way to convince Fox to sell First Class as an action blockbuster with brains.

As the film establishing the movieverse origins of Marvel's merry mutants, 'X-Men: First Class' is in the unique position of not only telling backstories, but also debuting new special effects for the mutants' powers. MTV's three new video segments spotlighting Alex Summers / Havok (Lucas Till), Sean Cassidy / Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones) and Hank McCoy / Beast (Nicholas Hoult) flesh out both halves of the equation and give fans one of their closest looks at the June 3 film yet.
The three young mutants all face their share of tragedy. Havok's powers have hurt those closest to him; Beast is so driven to become normal that he accidentally becomes even more mutated-looking; and Banshee, well, he's just got zero game. For a dude his age, that may well be the worst curse of them all.

20th Century Fox is attempting to introduce the young and gifted mutants in "X-Men: First Class" before the movie hits theaters June 3. Three character spots have just been released via MTV, giving an in-depth look of Banshee, Beast and Havok's abilities plus their trainings at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
Banshee, played by Caleb Landry Jones, is originally an ordinary boy by the name of Sean Cassidy. His power relies on sonic scream which he can use as a weapon by means of the wave length as well as a method of flight. Xavier, played by James McAvoy, tells him to train his voice like a muscle.
Beast, played by Nicholas Hoult, is a nerdy genius named Hank McCoy. The spot gives a highlight on his relationship with Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique when he was first introduced to her by The Man in Black. At the end of the video,...

Considering that it’s got a large cast at hand, it makes sense for Fox to be pushing individual characters forward in their marketing for X-Men: First Class. We saw something similar to this in March 2009, when Warner Bros. released individual TV spots for the many characters of Watchmen, but I imagine Fox is hoping this will have a bigger financial impact than it did for that movie. They’ve shown up over at MTV, and the three, one minute spots are for Banshee, Havok and Beast.
The first one shows Caleb Landry Jones‘ character, Banshee, who also goes by the name of Sean Cassidy. His power is that of a supersonic scream, which allows him to – as shown here – do things like shatter glass, irritate fish (well, that’s not really a power), as well as fly. You can see the surprisingly funny spot below:

X-Men: First Class is looking like it's going to be a pretty damn good comic book adapted movie! Matthew Vaughn was the right choice to bring on this project as a director, the casting is great, and the story looks solid and interesting. Hey guys, it's time to cry Havok and let slip the clips of awesomeness, because MTV's Splash Page has just revealed three fantastic new character bios for the upcoming blockbuster "X-Men: First Class" featuring exclusive footage from the movie.
Opening on June 3, "X-Men: First Class" tells the story of how the "X-Men" first formed; set back in the 1960s, it features a bunch of kick-ass mutants straight out of the pages of Marvel Comics, including the three fan favorites spotlighted by MTV: Havok, Beast and Banshee.
Havok, of course, is Alex Summers, older brother to "X-Men" stalwart Scott Summers (aka Cyclops); like his bro, Havok (played here by Lucas Till) can fire big beams of destructive energy, though in this case it doesn't come from his eyes but from an invisible third nipple in the middle of his chest.
Beast, meanwhile, is supergenius Hank McCoy, whose big brain is matched...

Excitement...amazement...discussion...analysis. That was pretty much the reaction (and still is) to the two new trailers for X-Men: First Class that have been released tonight.
Both clips are included below if you've yet to view them or want to have another look. There's a fair amount of new footage and while there are no dramatic spoilers of major plot twists, the general flow of the story is laid out and it's your call whether you want to know so much about the content of the movie.
As the poster above indicates, this X-Men prequel hits UK cinemas on June 1. It chronicles the first meeting of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and the events that led to their rift and the formation of their rival teams, the Brotherhood and the X-Men.

Superhero fans have been busy showing their creative talents with a series of posters and even an opening credits sequence for the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class.
It indicates a healthy level of anticipation for 20th Century Fox's mutant origin tale as well as the huge amount of imagination and skill out there.
Amazingly, the posters put to shame many of the official images released by the studio's own marketing department.
The film is set in 1962 and has something of a Bond flavour, which has obviously been a major influence on the fans' art.

Comic book fans have had four opportunities to ask questions of the cast and crew of director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class adaptation via the "X-Perts" feature on the movie's official Facebook page. Producer Bryan Singer revealed the one mutant he didn't get to include in the movie and discussed some of his creative decisions about the movie's story. Nicholas Hoult, who plays Henry "Hank" McCoy, aka Beast, discussed playing the character in various stages of transformation, while Rose Byrne and Oliver Platt discussed the government's role in the movie and the lack of Scottish accents.
The latest cast members to answer questions are Caleb Landry Jones, who plays Sean Cassidy, aka Banshee, and Edi Gathegi as Armando Muñoz, aka Darwin. Both characters have been shown only in flashes in the movie's first trailer and the subsequent Russian trailer, so it's not a surprise that Jones' answers are brief.

Another sneak peek video for "X-Men: First Class" has been debuted to tide fans over the release of the movie. Dubbed in Russian, the new international trailer has more footage with Michael Fassbender's Erik Lensherr.
Young Erik is seen expressing his frustration with his mutant powers, while his softer side is exposed when older Erik sheds some tears in another scene. Also, there is a glimpse of Erik getting ready to do his thing while donning the early Magneto helmet.
Other fresh scenes give preview to Caleb Landry Jones' Sean Cassidy/Banshee as he deals with his power. He is showing off his mutant vocal abilities in front of his friends, and there is a quick shot of him flying through the air.
"X-Men: First Class" will chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, when Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr were two young men discovering their powers for the first time.

It May be all in Russian - but it's definitely worth a look.
A new trailer has been released for X-Men: First Class. While the text and dialogue is not in English, there is a lot of new footage.
Caleb Landry Jones plays Sean Cassidy, aka Banshee, and you can see him emitting the mutant's trademark sonic scream and also flying (although possibly with the aid of a jetpack).
A comparison image is shown below in which you can see the striped straps in the trailer are a clear nod to the character's comic book costume.
There's also a better view of Nicholas Hoult as Beast, whose appearance looks to have been slightly modified from the first trailer.
We're told there is unlikely to be an English version of this trailer, so sit back and enjoy the new footage.

One element(among many!) of Mathew Vaughn's X prequel that has caused a bit of fan backlash is this movie's incarnation of Moira MacTaggert. A Dr working for mutant rights in the comics, here she will be a CIA liaison to Xavier and Magneto's young team.. Movie Trailers - Movies Blog "She works for the CIA in this prequel and gets involved in the whole mutant community as it were, "I'm on [the mutants'] side, so that's the main thing. "She kind of joins forces with [Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr] to use mutants for good rather than evil." "She really believes in them being able to coexist with humans," Does Byrne display a hint of a Scottish accent when she says "Mutant community"? Maybe it's my imagination. In the comics, MacTaggert is Scottish and an ex lover of Charles Xavier and Sean Cassidy(Banshee). In the movie Banshee is said to be her assistant. But the...

[1] I don't know about you, but when I saw the first trailer [2] for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, I went from being cautiously optimistic to unabashedly optimistic. It looked like everything I'd want from an X-Men film: action, character-driven drama, an excellent cast and plenty of meaningful nods at storylines familiar to any Marvel fan. Now a Russian trailer with new footage has been released, and I'm feeling even more confident in my high hopes for the film. Check it out after the jump. [via Filmonic [3]] It's a little weird to watch Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender) speaking in dubbed Russian, but aside from that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. We get a few shots we haven't seen before -- most notably, scenes of Sean Cassidy/Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones) demonstrating his sonic scream, what appears to be a recreation of the concentration camp scene from the first X-Men,...

While reactions to the first "X-Men: First Class" trailer have been mixed, we weren't alone in feeling like the first footage from Matthew Vaughn's upcoming prequel film won us over and eased a lot of our fears regarding the project. Now, some new footage has arrived online courtesy of a Russian trailer for "X-Men: First Class."
Posted over at The Playlist, the new trailer offers quite a bit of new footage — specifically, some new scenes showcasing the powers of young mutant Sean Cassidy (a.k.a. Banshee). Played by Caleb Landry Jones, Banshee is seen showing off his mutant vocal abilities, and we even get a quick shot of him flying through the air.
Yes, even in Russian, the "X-Men: First Class" footage has made me a believer.
"X-Men: First Class" hits theaters June 3, 2011.

No matter what it turns out to be in the end, it's already clear that "X-Men: First Class" is going to be something unusual. What we've seen so far of the '60s-set origin story for Marvel's premiere mutant super-team has a very different feel compared to other recent comic book adaptations. Director Matthew Vaughn thinks so too. Really, that's the whole point.
"This is going to be very different. What I'm doing no one has done in superhero films. It's James Bond, it's a political thriller and it's an X-Men movie," he told IGN during a set visit.
Vaughn came to the project with an open mind. Let's face it: the direction taken in "X-Men: The Last Stand" was not a particularly welcome one, a fact that he recognized going in.
"It's not like the other X-Men movies which I think is important. I think they need to sort of take on a new.

Check out new photo from Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. The photo shows off villains Emma Frost (January Jones) and Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) standing in what is believed to be The Hellfire Club’s HQ.
X-Men: First Classcharts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Set photographs of James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier in "X-Men: First Class" first appeared online last month, featuring the eventually bald telepath conversing with some of the film's other leading cast members.
Now, thanks to The Oxford Student, some context has emerged regarding the leaked photos. According to the report, the "First Class" scenes filmed in Oxford amount to a mere "few minutes of useable footage," despite the fact that it took three weeks to set up and two days to shoot the sequences on a hefty price tag of 200,000 pounds. Re-shoots are possible due to rain effecting the shots.
Additionally, some story details have come to light. The Oxford Student reports that the scenes shot in Oxford feature Xavier "getting doctorates in theology and philosophy from Oxford University in the 1960s, his manipulation of student uprisings using his psychic powers, and the way he meets best friend turned arch rival Magneto.

Filming is under way in the UK on Matthew Vaughn's mutant prequel X-Men: First Class, which explores the backstory of Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and the rift that turned them into archenemies.
The mutant roll call includes Caleb Landry Jones (pictured) as Sean Cassidy, whose sonic scream earns him the codename Banshee.
Jones, 20, is now on screen in The Last Exorcism, where he plays the creepy brother of Ashley Bell's demonic possession victim.
Daniel Stamm, director of the horror flick, made reference to Caleb's X-Men role in an interview with MTV.
He revealed: "He was a real find, because I wanted the character to be slightly off, but where you couldn't really pinpoint what's off about him. There's some weirdness about him, and his doesn't have that in real life at all. He's the smartest guy.
"He's going to be great in X-Men.

Bryan Singer, producer of X-Men: The First Class, dropped a line to AICN to share some notes and much needed plot details of the upcoming Matthew Vaughn-directed prequel. Currently, to this point, all we know about the film is that is will feature the story of how young Dr. Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr discover their powers for the first time, and meet up with other mutants.
Well, it seems Singer wants to clear some timeline points with fans, as we all wondered when this movie was going to take place. I for one thought it would take place after the Wolverine film, but I am wrong. You see, at the end of the Wolverine film, Xavier shows up to pick up the left over mutants from Three Mile Island, presumably to take them to the school of gifted youngsters. This actor is probably best known from titles like Clash of the Titans, Kick-Ass and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and today we’re here to add his name to quite interesting (and previously reported) Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class cast list.
So, one big welcome for Jason Flemyng who will portray Nightcrawler’s father Azazel, a character that he already described as “a teleporter.”
Here’s a little detailed description of this character:
“Azazel claims that many years ago an ancient horde of demonic mutants from biblical times called the Neyaphem were in an epic battle with a group of angelic over-zealous mutants, named the Cheyarafim. They were victorious in the battle and vanquished the “evil” mutants to an alternate dimension for all eternity.
The Neyaphem’s leader, Azazel, was the only one who was able to breach the dimensional void for brief periods of time due to his teleportation powers.

January Jones, best known as Betty on “Mad Men,” has signed to play Emma Frost in Fox’s X-Men: First Class.
The 32-year-old actress is the latest in a flurry of new announcements on the mutant reboot as the production prepares to get underway in London this month. Joining Jones are Zoe Kravitz (Lenny’s daughter) as Angel, Bill Milner as a younger version of Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender), and Morgan Lily as a young Mystique (played by Jennifer Lawrence).
In the comics, Emma Frost was originally a villain known as the White Queen, but later joined the X-Men and became a teacher at Professor X’s school for mutant mastery. There she takes an interest in Angel, a young mutant with the abilities of a common housefly. Frost’s super powers are telepathy and the ability to transform her skin into diamonds for increased durability.

Rose Byrne, Oliver Platt, and Jason Flemyng have joined the growing cast of Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.

Jason Flemyng has officially signed on for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming superhero film X-Men: First Class, according to Empire. The British actor will portray Azazel, the father of Nightcrawler, in the X-Men universe. Here’s an excerpt from the site’s article.
“Matthew showed me my costume just the other day. Now I swore I’d never be in heavy make-up again, but this role is going to involve it. But at least they said, “Don’t worry, we’ll add the tail in post”. I am Azazel, and I can teleport by waving my arms [gestures like a cross between a flamenco dancer and a Bollywood star].”
The site was also able to confirm that Flemyng’s Azazel will be red, as opposed to Nightcrawler’s blue-skinned character. It wasn’t clear at this time how big Flemyng’s role in the film will be. In other news, apparently Rose Byrne will be playing the role of Moira MacTaggert, a scientist...

Oy. Director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Kick-Ass) is giving me a beast of a headache that's not helping my hangover. While I've so far thoroughly enjoyed Vaughn's work, his casting for X-Men: First Class is getting a little (Ok, a lot) out of control. It's meant to be an early origin story, telling about how Professor X and Magneto were once friends and what led them to become enemies. Yes, it's an origin story. Apparently, Vaughn didn't learn from the Ratnerfucking of X3, and is making it an origin story about every goddamn mutant in the Marvel universe.
The most recent news is that Rose Byrne (Troy, "Damages") is in talks to play Moira MacTaggert, a geneticist, lover of Xavier and one of the few non-mutant protagonists. She's Scottish, though I wouldn't be surprised if that part gets retconned out, and spends much of her time doing research on genetic mutation...

The cast of "X-Men: First Class" continues expanding with additional member. At BFI's Movie-Con III in London, Jason Flemyng has told the crowd that he lands a role in the upcoming film, playing Azazel who is the father of popular mutant Nightcrawler.
Like Nightcrawler, Azazel has the ability to teleport. Though his role is considered a minor one, Flemyng has stated that he will get a lot of make-up to portray the character and he will have a tail, which will be added in post-production.
Beside Flemyng, Rose Byrne is also likely to join "First Class". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 31-year-old Australian is currently in negotiations to play Moira MacTaggert, a scientist and an authority on genetic mutation.
