Starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and set in a gorgeously ominous castle, the new gothic thriller Voice from the Stone is now out in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD from Momentum Pictures, and we caught up with the film's director, Eric D. Howell, for our latest Q&A feature, and we've also been provided with a new clip from the movie.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Eric. What attracted you to this story and made you want to bring Andrew Shaw’s adaptation of Silvio Raffo’s novel to life on the big screen?
Eric D. Howell: The script was one that literally made me want to read under a blanket with a flashlight. It had familiar gothic motifs, but told a story about love, loss, grief, and fear in a way that was completely compelling and original. Andrew is...

It has emerged Emilia Clarke has a passion for roles in which she is brought in to help or even nurse those in need of help. Firstly in last year’s Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin now in supernatural thriller Voice from the Stone, judging from the trailer this one will send shivers down your spine.
Related: Me Before You Premiere Interview with Emilia Clarke
Whilst there is a melancholy beauty set within the eerie tones of the trailer, all appears to be well at first as Clarke, who plays the hired young nurse, Verena, is brought into the fold to help a young boy come out of his self-induced silence after his mother dies. However, after a series of strange events that almost drives her insane, she becomes a victim of abduction and sinister supernatural incidents eventually showing her in a broken state.

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke finds herself in horror movie hell in the creepy new thriller she stars in called The Voice in the Stone. The movie has a very gothic horror movie feel to it, and I love the old-school spooky vibe that this trailer radiates. This could actually be a solid horror movie. Here's the synopsis:
A haunting thriller set in an isolated castle in 1950s Tuscany, Voice from the Stone tells the story of Verena, a determined young nurse who is hired to help the mute young heir within. But the more she observes him, the more Verena becomes convinced he has fallen under the spell of a powerful and otherworldly persona trapped in the villa’s stone walls, one that seems to be rapidly entwining with her own.

When she's not busy literally burning down the patriarchy as the mother of dragons, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is steadily becoming quite the movie star. Following the success of last year's weepie, Me Before You, she landed a role in the Star Wars spinoff about young Han Solo. Before that, she has something completely different in store: a thriller called Voice From the Stone.

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has landed another feature film movie role. Her first big screen introduction is a big one with Terminator: Genesis, in which she plays Sarah Conor. Her second movie will be a psychological thriller called Voice from the Stone.
The story is set in 1950′s Tuscany, Italy, and Clarke is taking on the role of a nurse who is "aiding a boy through the trauma of his mother’s sudden death. As she works with the troubled child, she becomes ensnared by a malevolent force inside the family’s castle." I hope the movie has that classic Italian horror movie feel to it, because those films are crazy as hell.
I'm one of those moviegoers that gets excited about movies like this. I have a blast watching films that screw with my head. I hope this project is able to pull off the insanity and freak me out.

The fourth season of "Game of Thrones" just concluded this past Sunday on HBO, so there's no better time to reveal a new project for series regular Emilia Clarke. The actress is currently busy playing Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis, but she's just locked down the lead role in Voice from the Stone, a psychological thriller set in the 1950s. The film will see Clarke playing a nurse who helps a boy through the traumatic sudden death of his mother only to become ensnared by a malevolent force inside the family’s castle. Sounds like a traditional horror thriller, but this is based on the Italian novel La Voce Della Pietra. Silvio Raffo wrote the book which Deadline reports has been adapted by newcomer Andrew Shaw, and will mark the feature directorial debut of Eric D. Howell. Production will begin in November, and it's not clear if it will happen...

Great Hope Springs, the movie in which Meryl Streep plays one half of a married couple spending a week of marriage and sex therapy with a famous therapist (Steve Carell) has gone through a few possible male leads. Jeff Bridges was mentioned early on, and James Gandolfini looked like a possibility at one point. (Those were when Mike Nichols was going to direct [1], but now The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel will make the film instead.) Tommy Lee Jones was next [2] in the casting rumor series, but now he definitively has the gig playing husband to Meryl Streep. That's a great pairing, and while the director may not be my top choice, I'm still as interested in watching these two actors trade barbs as I was when the idea first came up. The synopsis for Great Hope Springs is after the break, along with news of new gigs for Maggie Gyllenhaal and Holly Hunter.

As she develops a relationship with the father of the boy, she also becomes haunted by the same evil presence and must fight to save herself and the boy."
I'm happy that we are seeing more creepy ghost stories getting the movie treatment. For example, Insidious was a great horror film. I fyou haven't seen it yet, you're missing out. It's nice that the slasher blood splatter films have taken a back seat.

Hollywoodnews.com: Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn’t work as frequently as her brother, Jake, but when she chooses a project – be it an indie like “Sherrybaby” or a blockbuster like “The Dark Knight” – it usually has meaning.
So we’re immediately paying close attention to “Voice From the Stone,” a supernatural thriller directed by Eric Howell that has lured the leading lady, according to Variety.
As the trade puts it, Gyllenhaal would play a nurse “drawn to the aid of a young boy who is haunted by malevolent forces within the walls of an old house in the Italian countryside.”
Sounds reminiscent of “The Orphanage,” which was brilliant. Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini are on the hook to produce “Voices,” which is based on the Italian novel “Le Voce Della Pietra” by Silvio Raffo.
