Eight-time Grammy winning songwriter and record producer Philip Lawrence, who’s worked with Adele, Flo Rida, Wiz Khalifa and CeeLo Green, but is best known for his hitmaking association with The Smeezingtons — a no-longer-together songwriting team comprising Lawrence, Ari Levine and Bruno Mars — has hoisted his glamorously appointed apartment in New York’s Lincoln Square area on the market at $8.25 million.
Lawrence, also part of Shampoo Press & Curl — another Grammy-winning songwriting/producing team with his wife, celebrity stylist/fashion designer Urbana Chappa Lawrence, and Bruno Mars — purchased the 38th floor aerie about 2.5 years ago for not quite $7.568 million and subsequently had it worked over in high style by Los Angeles-based designers Patrick Dragonette and Charles Tucker. Notable details of the almost 3,100-square-foot, four-bedroom and four-and-a-half-bath condo include motorized window treatments, custom closets, a built-in safe, camera-equipped security and a comprehensive home automation system.

This isn't the Freida Pinto people are used to seeing. The 28-year-old actress takes center stage in Bruno Mars' just-released "Gorilla" music video, playing a newbie stripper named Isabella. Actor Luis Gusman also makes a cameo as the seedy club owner who introduces Pinto's character as "the new girl in town." Mars, who co-wrote the song with Philip Lawrence Ari Levine for his sophomore album, Unorthodox Jukebox, directed the clip. During the six-minute video, the 28-year-old singer watches men throw dollar bills at Pinto as she writhes on a pole, whips her hair back and forth and caresses her body. While the video is certainly provocative, it's not too surprising, given the lyrical...

New York -- Bruno Mars was jealous of Amy Winehouse because he wanted to do what she did: release genre-bending songs that connected with audiences around the world.
"I felt like everything I've been saying, everything I wanted to do, she did it. It was one of those things like, `Damn it! Damn it!' It was perfect," the singer-songwriter-producer said in a recent interview.
Winehouse, who died last year, won five Grammy Awards for 2007's "Back to Black," including album of the year.
"You couldn't put it in a box `cause it could be played on rock stations, it could be played on rhythmic stations, it could be played on pop radio, and I've always wanted to make music like that – that could be spread out, and can't be pigeon-held to one thing," he said. "And they did it. Her and Mark Ronson."

-- Adele is the rare star that doesn't need multiple magazine covers, a cosmetics contract or a clothing line to sell albums. She does it all based on the strength of that sumptuous voice and those stirring songs.
That's a rarity in today's pop world, where artists are overexposed and their music often comes second to what they're promoting in tandem with it.
Adele scored an unlikely critical and commercial triumph with "21," last year's best-selling album, all based off the artistry of songs like "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." And she'll be richly rewarded come Sunday, when the Grammys hand out their trophies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While Kanye West is the lead nominee with seven, Adele, who's up for six, will be the act who dominates – well, at least that's what We think.

Los Angeles -- A whiteboard hangs on the wall of the tiny Hollywood studio used by the Smeezingtons, Bruno Mars' production and songwriting team. It's filled with doodles, including a picture of Alf and a joking note that producer-engineer Ari Levine "hangs out with Jamaican drug lords on the reg."
Mars, just back from a tour, plinks away at a newly-purchased Korg keyboard while Levine and singer-songwriter Philip Lawrence perch on couches. Levine's dog Rambo snores noisily on the floor.
This is the Smeezingtons' moment of calm after storming up pop charts for the past two years.
"What I just went through the past year, I've never done before in my life. Everything: Interviews, on television, we've toured everywhere," Mars says, shaking his head. "I'm excited for round two."

MTV News takes a look at the history of Album of the Year nominee Doo-Wops & Hooligans.
By Jocelyn Vena

Bruno Mars showed he was more than just B.o.B and Travie McCoy's hook guy when he dropped Doo-Wops & Hooligans back in October 2010 — and he's got an Album of the Year nomination at Sunday's Grammys to prove it.
With an ear for vintage-sounding details and a love for a good melody, Mars unleashed an album that would spawn megahits and make the Hawaii native (and former Elvis Presley impersonator) a household name, not to mention the go-to guy for the likes of hip-hop legends Eminem and Lil Wayne.
For the smash debut, Mars hooked up with his production team, the Smeezingtons (Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine), as well as A-list talent like songwriter Claude Kelley, producer and collaborator Damian Marley and former Fall Out Boy leading man Patrick Stump.

Charice and Lea on the Glee set
Charice aka “Sunshine Corazon” makes her return on “Glee” tonight, but this time as a potential “spy” for Vocal Adrenaline. The small girl with amazing pipes made her debut at the beginning of the Glee season with a pumped up singing “duel” of Telephone with Lea Michele (aka Rachel Berry). This time Charice takes it down a notch with a goosebump inducing version of “All By Myself”. In addition to her run on “Glee”, Charice is releasing a new single (The Bruno Mars/Ari Levine penned “Before It Explodes”), and is in the midst of filming her first movie, “Here Comes the Boom” with Kevin James, Salma Hayek, and Henry Winkler.
We caught up with Charice on the phone, and asked her how she’s feeling about all the recent activity going on in her life, “I’m losing it! (laugh) No. It’s been fun for me.

Record of the Year contender almost didn't make its way to B.o.B.
By James Montgomery

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" was not its chart-topping success, its earnestness or the fact that it served as an introductory course in two of the year's biggest artists. It's the fact that the song wasn't meant for B.o.B at all.
Yes, before the song — which is nominated for three Grammys, including Record of the Year — found its way to B.o.B, it was originally intended for Lupe Fiasco. Seems the folks at Atlantic Records felt that it would be a perfect fit for the Chicago Mc, and they insisted that its producers, the Smeezingtons, send it their way. But, as fate would have it, one of the men responsible for shaping B.o.B's career intervened.

Former "American Idol" judge, Kara DioGuardi, appeared in front of a room of television reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote her new reality competition show for Bravo, "Platinum Hit." In the end, her appearance generated the wrong kind of headlines after she refused to answer questions about her former TV gig.
"I thought it was out of place to be talking about 'Idol' when they were debuting their show," DioGuardi tells Zap2it. "And the producer was there and [host/judge] Jewel was there. It just didn't feel like the right forum."
As we reported, there were some people in the room who booed her for refusing to answer. Then, things escalated when one reporter yelled out, "You're here, because of that show." In response, DioGuardi defended her resume.
"I felt that was a little bit hurtful," she says. "But I understand they're just trying to do their job.

Each year, the Grammy Awards not only serve to recognize the best achievements in music over the past year but also help to elevate certain artists from unknowns to stars and from successes into household names. The latter will probably be true of Bruno Mars once the awards are handed out in February, as the singer and producer was nominated for a total of seven awards during Wednesday night's "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" show.
Mars scored a handful of nominations as a performer for his vocal stylings on the chart-topping B.o.B track "Nothin' on You" and also picked up several nominations as a member of the Smeezingtons, the writing and production trio that consists of Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine.

There's no denying the ear-candy magic in Cee-Lo Green's F-bomb-dropping kiss-off soul nugget "F--- You." But even the Goodie Mob/ Gnarls Barkley singer himself has been a bit surprised at the viral explosion set off by the lyrics-only video for the first single from his upcoming The Lady Killer album, which has rung up more than 2 million views since it was released last Thursday.
"It's a pleasant surprise, I must say," the singer told Entertainment Weekly's Music Mix blog.
"I think it's totally surpassed just about everyone's expectations. We had a clue — I mean, it's a very noticeable song — but this has been extraordinary." Though he's understating the shockingly catchy nature of the profanity-laced Motown-like ditty, the success is probably a bigger shock to the Smeezingtons production team behind it,...

Motown throwback 'F--- You' is gaining Internet buzz despite its explicit lyrics.

Four years ago, Cee-Lo scored big with his Gnarls Barkley hit song "Crazy," but now the singer is sending a different message, one that may be a little too hard to sing in public. With his new song "F--- You," the R&B singer is keeping blogs buzzing.
On the first single from his new solo album, The Lady Killer, Cee-Lo convincingly tells off his money-hungry ex-girlfriend and the man with the larger pockets who took her away. Despite being kicked to the curb, the soul singer holds his head high and turns the tale of a scorned man into a happy-go-lucky track with his charismatic voice. The song was produced by the Smeezingtons (the writing and production trio of Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine).
