In between drags of cigarette smoke, Patty and Selma Bouvier are likely freaking out over the idea of a new Matlock series coming to CBS. The Matlock reboot gets a new star today with Beau Bridges joining the cast. Bridges replaces Jayme Sheridan, who starred in the pilot, to act opposite Kathy Bates in the updated version. CBS’ Matlock debuts in 2024-25 after the strike delayed production.
CBS’ Matlock hails from Jennie Snyder Urman and stars Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a sharp-minded septuagenarian with a stellar track record for solving cases. After being away from the game for years, Matlock rejoins the workforce at a distinguished law firm, where she uses her years of experience and unique tactics to achieve justice. At her new place of employment, Matty teams up with Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker who thirsts for fair play. Olympia’s ex-husband,...

If you are going to do a so-called “hilarious” comedy dealing with cancer you better know how to do it. Unfortunately, writer/director Jennifer Cram, for her first feature film in those jobs, does not knock it out of the park.
Sick Girl which stars Nina Dobrev as Wren, a bit of a mess of a 30ish woman whose spur-of-the-moment little white lie about having cancer spirals out of control, would need a satirist along the lines of an Adam McKay to actually pull off this misbegotten comedy which is simply more cringe-inducing than funny, and Cram, whose previous work has been in Casting just can’t find the right tone to make it work. The premise may have sounded good on paper but it quickly turns into a one-joke idea stretched way beyond its worth. Lionsgate is opening this Friday day and date in theatres and VOD, the latter...

Oscar winner Brie Larson (Room) whips up tasty meals on TV after being forced out of work as a scientist in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry. Set in the 1960s, Larson stars as Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant scientist who was born in the wrong era. The male-dominated lab where she’s employed stifles Elizabeth’s talent, holding firm to the belief women are only capable of handling subservient positions and are far too fragile and delicate to undertake any actual scientific endeavors.
A chance encounter leads to Elizabeth putting her chemistry skills to use in front of the camera and teaching women not just how to be brave in the kitchen but also in all aspects of their lives.
Lessons in Chemistry is based on Bonnie Garmus’ bestselling novel, published in April 2022. In a March 2022 interview with Penguin Books, Garmus discussed the book’s setting.

Apple has released the official trailer for Lessons in Chemistry, now set to launch streaming starting in October this fall. This Brie Larson series is set in the 1950s (although the book is set in the 1960s), telling a very feminist tale about a woman who takes on a job as a cooking show host, but offers up more than just lessons in cooking. Set in 1950s America, the show – adapted from Bonnie Gamus’ bestselling book – centres around Elizabeth Zott (Larson), a brilliant scientist who finds herself fired from her lab when a board of men in suits get spooked by the idea that “a pretty lab tech” may be on the verge of a major scientific breakthrough. Heaven forbid! But, as Zott narrates in the trailer, in life, “the only constant variable is the unexpected”. Brie Larson has delivered countless phenomenal performances throughout her career, but something tells us we're getting her finest work on Lessons in Chemistry.
Apple TV+ shared the official trailer for the highly-anticipated limited series on Thursday morning, showing Larson as Elizabeth Zott.
Zott is a scientist whose life is upended when, on the cusp of discovering something great, a patriarchal society puts her career on hold.
You can tell from the official trailer that this has a profound effect on Elizabeth because the first half focuses on her trying to make a significant breakthrough.
Hearing that everything you've worked for is being taken away from you must be one of the worst feelings in the world, and just when Elizabeth is trying to bounce back following the controversial decision, she gets quite the offer.
She's offered the job as a host of a TV cooking show, and while she's apprehensive at first,...

Brie Larson is giving out cooking lessons — with a dash of social progress on the side.
Apple TV+ has released a trailer for the upcoming limited series Lessons in Chemistry, starring Larson as Elizabeth Zott, whose promising career in science is derailed when she’s fired by her chauvinistic bosses. She finds an outlet for her skills, though, in the kitchen, cooking up delicious treats for her colleague. (“It’s just chemistry,” she tells him.) In a newly released trailer for Lessons in Chemistry, Brie Larson is challenging women’s stereotypes in the ’50s with her television cooking show.
The Apple TV+ limited series, which Larson also executive produced, is based on the best-selling novel by Bonnie Garmus.
“I stand proudly with the overlooked workhorse of the kitchen, women and baked potatoes,” Larson can be heard saying during one of her cooking show segments.
The eight-episode show, set in the early 1950s, follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson) whose dream of becoming a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. After being fired from her lab, she gets offered a job to host a TV cooking show, which she accepts. But she quickly sets out to use her platform to teach a nation of overlooked housewives, and the men who are listening all of a sudden, more than just recipes.
“Politics don’t belong in the kitchen.

"Welcome viewers." Apple has revealed a first look teaser trailer for an upcoming series titled Lessons in Chemistry, debuting sometime in the fall later this year. Just a quick 45-second tease! This Brie Larson series is set in the 1950s (although the book is set in the 1960s), telling a very feminist tale about a woman who takes on a job as a cooking show host, but offers up more than just lessons in cooking. Adapted from the book of the same name from Bonnie Garmus. Elizabeth Zotts' dream of being a scientist is put on hold when she finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab. She begins using a cooking show she is hired to host to educate housewives on scientific topics (and perhaps some chemistry). In addition to Brie, the series cast includes Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Patrick Walker, Thomas Mann, Kevin Sussman,...

“Lessons in Chemistry,” the upcoming Apple TV+ drama series led and executive produced by Brie Larson, has added Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Patrick Walker, Thomas Mann, Kevin Sussman, Beau Bridges to the cast.
The series is set in the early 1950s and follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes, all the while craving a return to her true love: science.
