- Azar Vladimir Hassan was born on July 29, 1976 in Toronto, Canada. His parents are both originally from the country of Guyana, which is on the northern coast of South America. Hassan's ancestors are originally from India. Hassan has lived in Canada, the United States, and Kuwait (The Middle East). Azar was officially classified as being mentally gifted from an early age. His main interest in school (aside from girls) up until the 8th grade was in academics and academic competitions. He often placed first in school wide academic competitions and on an occasion placed first in a city wide math contest. It was also around the age of thirteen that Azar became interested in learning specific martial arts self defence techniques. It would not be until the age of 17 that Azar would try to take his martial arts training seriously. In high school, Azar became more involved in athletics, medalling at track and field meets. It was at the age of 22, that Azar finally felt that he understood the martial arts, and what studying and practicing the martial arts, can and can't do for you. It would not be until Azar was in his late thirties, that he would truly consider himself a "true martial artist". Azar considers himself to be primarily a self taught martial artist. Azar maintains that though he loves everything about acting, he will always consider himself a, "martial artist first, and an actor second". It was also at the age of 22 that Azar decided that he wanted to make acting a professional career for himself. On that decision, Azar's final comment is, "I finally realized, I have to accept who I really am, no matter how hard that might be for me, and even if others can't accept who I really am. So I chose acting, because it allowed me, to be me."- IMDb Mini Biography By: Azar Hassan
- Azar Hassan was born on July 29, 1976 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- He's 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighs 160 lbs.
- Hassan was a self-described "heavy smoker" of cigarettes for 13 years. He quit smoking in May of 2012. Although he quit, he still believes in "smoker's rights", as long as they don't conflict with the rights of non-smokers, such as a non-smoker's right to not have to be constantly breathing in second hand smoke over an extended period of time. He believes that a person should have the right to choose whether they want to smoke or not, regardless of what society thinks of smoking. In his quest to quit smoking, Hassan first switched to smoking "ultra-lite" cigarettes. Then he moved on to a combination of using "nicotine gum" to take away his cravings for a cigarette, and, smoking a cigarette when he felt the need to. Finally he moved on to the "nicotine patch" system, during which you are not supposed to smoke at all. Using these steps, Hassan was able to successfully quit smoking.
- He was enrolled at the University of Western Ontario after he completed high school, but he dropped out in the first semester of his first year, and never went back. Commenting on that decision, he says, "I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, that's probably the main reason why I dropped out. To be completely honest, I was fed up with the formal educational system by the time I was doing my last years in high school. By the time you reach high school, the whole educational system seems to be focused on preparing the students to be future blind, obedient 'sheep'. At least, that's my opinion. Still, I would not advise the vast majority of students to drop out of college/university. Even if you don't know what you want to do with your life, hang in there for the college/university experience. If you don't know what you want to do with your life, don't worry about what courses you're taking, just take anything. This is a very special time in your life, and you will not really get the chance at this magical experience again. Try to make the most of it. You might even find the career for you after a couple of years in college/university. But anyhow, you can always figure out where you stand after attending college/university. Don't be in such a rush, enjoy the college/university experience, if possible...".
- Hassan was given multiple IQ tests during his elementary school years, and was classified as being, "mentally gifted", as a result of those tests. "Perhaps since that time, which was long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I have become mentally UN-gifted," he jokingly laments.
