Sergio Vega, who has played bass with Deftones since 2009, officially announced his departure from the group in an Instagram post early Wednesday morning. The statement comes after Spotify recently replaced Deftones’ picture to show a four-piece group over the weekend.
“Covid was a breaking point for a lot of people,” Vega said in a video. “And I started to question my place in the band, and the future that I wanted for my career. I really started to need something stable, because at that point, my contract with them was canceled.

Los Angeles – Few rock bands that emerged during the '90s nu-metal phase still exist today and practically none have the amount of respect and admiration the Deftones receive from their musical peers. Countless bands cite the Sacramento-based group as a big influence on their music.
Saturday night (July 28) the Deftones stopped by the Troubadour in Los Angeles – an incredibly tiny, sweaty 300-capacity club – to perform their first proper show in nearly a year and their only solo date before heading out on a co-headlining amphitheater tour with System of a Down prior to their new, still-untitled album dropping on October 9. Soad drummer John Dolmayan and bassist Shavo Odadjian were both in attendance, enjoying the set alongside Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato.
The Deftones took no time dusting off the cobwebs as they erupted straight into “Rocket Skates” – one of the heavier numbers off their last release,...

It’s clear by looking at festival lineups that nostalgia is in like never before in the music scene. (Why else could Cash Money sign Limp Bizkit?) And now fans of '90s alt-metal have plenty to celebrate with System of a Down announcing a two-week summer jaunt with their old chums, the Deftones.
The two outfits first teased the new tour through the trading of tweets (above) by holding up each other’s backstage passes in photos, but now the cat is officially out of the bag with the two groups hitting the road for the first half of August.
System of a Down notably went on hiatus in 2006, but made their live return for a round of some West Coast dates last year, but this upcoming Deftones tour will mark their first stops in the states since those few shows. Soad hasn’t released any...

The godfather of modern fitness, Jack Lalanne, died this week of complications stemming from pneumonia. Lalanne was responsible for a long string of events that many argue was responsible for the entire existence of the fitness movement in the United States.
He opened his first health club back in 1936, and was criticized for suggesting not only that resistance training could help fitness, but that women should do it, too. Lalanne was an extremely high-energy man and was one of the first people to publicly suggest that depression and fatigue could be alleviated with exercise. He practiced what he preached, working out daily until his health would no longer allow it. He will be greatly missed.

Takeru Kobayshi was not scheduled to compete in the contest due to some kind of rumored contract dispute. Not wanting to be left out of the action apaprently, Kobayshi rushed the stage after competitor Joey Chestnut won the competition. Police quickly grabbed him and hauled him away.
Kobayshi told reporters after court today he had “no regrets at all” over his actions at the Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest. According to his lawyer, the judge in the case “basically dismissed” all charges, leaving Kobayshi to get back to work trying to explode his stomach on a regular basis.
