Rennes-based production outfit Vivement Lundi!, whose short film “Memorable” claimed two top prizes at last year’s Annecy Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award, returns this year to pitch a project of a wholly different flavor.
Presented in the Mifa Pitch forum, the short-format series “Douce” (French for “Meek”) offers a bawdy and irreverent look at modern maternity, centering on a 41 year-old force of nature with three kids to feed, one more on the way, and no use for social niceties.
Variety has had access to a pilot, which demonstrates this very well.

Michael Leonard and Jamie Helmer’s The Diver was awarded Best Australian Short Film at the closing of Flickerfest in Sydney yesterday evening, while Michael Shanks’ Rebooted took home the Best Australian Short Animation prize.
Other winners included Alana Hicks, who took home Best Direction in an Australian Short Film for Chicken and Lydia Rui, who was named Outstanding Female Director for This Perfect Day.

I previously detailed all 45 animated shorts in contention for Oscar's 2012 Best Animated Short Film category and today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the ten animated short films that will advance in the voting process for the 84th Academy Awards. Taking all of the information I compiled for the long list of 45 films I have listed the ten in contention for the Oscar with videos and additional information directly below The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee viewed all the eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting in screenings held in New York and Los Angeles. Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will now select three to five nominees from among the ten titles on the shortlist.
