On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

Michael Ray’s new song “Whiskey and Rain” is equal parts Ronnie Milsap and Gary Allan, a mix of the piano man’s Eighties swing and the Nineties lonesomeness of Allan’s Smoke Rings in the Dark.
“It’s been nothing but a hangover trying to get over you,” Ray sings in a pronounced but easygoing twang, a sign that he’s embracing a natural throwback country sound over the more modern vibes of past hits like “Kiss You in the Morning” and “One That Got Away.” “Till the bottle...

On September 1 the Country Music Association announced the nominees for the 54th Annual CMA Awards, and Miranda Lambert came out on top with seven bids. That not only makes her the most nominated artist of the year, it makes her the most nominated female artist of all time. Her career haul of 55 noms surpasses former record-holder Reba McEntire, who amassed 50.
Lambert is up for Entertainer of the Year against Eric Church, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. Absent is defending champion Garth Brooks, who recently withdrew his name from consideration after winning seven times. Lambert’s additional six bids are for Single of the Year (“Bluebird”), Song of the Year (“Bluebird”), Album of the Year (“Wildcard”), Female Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year (“Fooled Around and Fell in Love”) and Music Video of the Year (“Bluebird”). That’s every single category she was eligible for.

The nominations for the 54th CMA Awards are out this morning, and they don’t include country music legend Garth Brooks as a nominee for the Entertainer of the Year award.
That’s because Brooks voluntarily disqualified himself in late July, saying that he’s won too many times — seven, to be exact, including last year’s — and wants to give the opportunity to another artist.
It was a tweet from a fan that steered Brooks to the decision.
“It said, ‘Hey, man. This guy, why doesn’t he just step down (and leave) the entertainer for the next generation?’ 100% agree,” he told press according to The Tennessean. “It’s time for somebody else to hold that award.”
That leaves the possibilities open this year to Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Luke Combs and Eric Church. May the best country star win.

Carrie Underwood aside, country radio has embraced former “American Idol” contestants only reluctantly, as if they were averse to sharing the credit for launching an act. A few have managed to last, though: Underwood’s an arena headliner and a radio mainstay for 15 years now, and Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, who finished 1-2 on “Idol” in 2011, also seem to have won over programmers.
Gabby Barrett can go on that list, too. Barrett, who finished third on the 2018 edition of “Idol” as an 18-year-old, recently made that ascent with “I Hope,” making her the first solo female singer since Carly Pearce in 2017 to reach No. 1 on the country airplay charts with a debut single.
That acceptance may be because Barrett follows so closely in Underwood’s footsteps, the older singer might want to steer clear of “All About Eve” for a while. Barrett’s breakout single essentially rewrites Underwood’s signature hit “Before He Cheats.

Singer-songwriter Gabby Barrett recently scored her first Number One country hit with the vicious breakup song “I Hope,” making her the first solo female performer since 2017 to reach the top of the country charts with a debut single. On June 19th, she’ll release her debut album Goldmine via Warner Music Nashville.
Barrett had a hand in writing all but one of the tracks on Goldmine, which also includes a special new version of “I Hope” featuring pop performer Charlie Puth and an appearance by Shane & Shane on the song “Got Me,...

Hosted by Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton, the night will “celebrate the legacy of women” within the genre, according to Cma Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern. It’s the culmination of a year that saw female artists pushing harder than ever to support each other and be heard, from the Highwomen’s “pirate ship” to Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile,...

The Country Music Association went with an all-female hosting lineup for this year’s show, and that woman-celebrating theme continued when nominations for the 53rd annual Cma Awards were announced Wednesday morning: Maren Morris led the pack with six nods.
Morris’ sophomore album, “Girl,” is up for album of the year, while the song of the same name, a recent No. 1 at country radio, is nominated in the single, song and music video categories. Her collaboration with Brothers Osborne, “All My Favorite People,” got a nod for musical event of the year. Morris also received a nomination for female vocalist of the year.

The days of the singer/songwriter tend to come and go since the desire for this type of music seems to wax and wane in a way that is almost like a rising tide that sticks around for a while only to fade out when the tastes of the audience change. Where many of Chesney’s recent songs like “Get Along” have addressed more worldly concerns, “Tip of My Tongue” is a celebration of sensuality. Over a dreamy, percussion-free bed of guitar and synthesizer, Chesney sings of his appreciation for the little details — like the dimples in someone’s...

“I might be heart broke, but that don’t mean I gotta stay home,” sings Runaway June’s Naomi Cooke in the country trio’s sprightly hit single “Buy My Own Drinks,” obliterating any expectations that she might be the type to waste time crying over someone. Cooke, along with singing partners Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne (the granddaughter of the Duke himself) are bound to get some Dixie Chicks comparisons with their brand of harmony-drenched country-pop, but their debut album Blue Roses offers plenty to distinguish them from that multi-Platinum trio.
