Jim Caviezel‘s acting career has spanned over three decades, and he’s worked with such filmmaking giants as Ang Lee, Tony Scott and Terrence Malick. A devout Catholic, Caviezel was profoundly moved during production of the 2004 hit “The Passion of the Christ” in which he portrayed Jesus and began changing his career focus to making inspirational films that more directly appeal to audiences of faith, such as “When the Game Stands Tall” and “Paul, Apostle of Christ.”
In his 2023 movie “Sound of Freedom,” Caviezel plays the real-life Tom Ballard, a Dhs special agent who goes rogue to rescue a young girl who has been kidnapped by a Colombia sex-trade ring. The film has been celebrated by politically conservative audiences, while critics were more mixed. Despite the controversy surrounding the film, “Sound of Freedom” became the unexpected box office hit of 2023, crossing the coveted $100 million mark in only 16 days.

After two years with Melbourne comedy podcast network Sanspants Radio and after doing pilots at Southern Cross Austereo in 2020 as well as being a 2Ser radio segment in 2021, cult news comedy podcast News Fighters will join Dan Ilic’s A Rational Fear podcast feed as a monthly show starting in 2023.
“With the Queen dead, Scott Morrison gone and Barnaby on the backbench, there's just not enough dumb material to do a weekly show anymore” said News Fighters host/producer Dylan Behan. “Doing the show monthly be much more sustainable - and Dan’s all about sustainability!”
Added A Rational Fear creator/host Dan Ilic:
“Dylan Behan has a brutally satirical eye, and that eye is forced to watch a lot of news… which is why it’s also very swollen, and red. Rather than see a doctor, part TV editor, part cyclops, Dylan Behan, is bringing News Fighters to the A Rational Fear feed.

"You can't conquer the mountain." DocBusters has unveiled an official US trailer for another new mountain climbing doc called The Lost Mountain, from filmmaker Chris Terrill. This is arriving on VOD to watch in the US starting in March, if anyone wants to give this a look. The film tells the unforgettable story of the 30-year-old climber Tom Ballard who disappeared on the so-called killer mountain, Nanga Parbat, in 2019. Ballard was a British rock climber, alpinist and the son of mountaineer Alison Hargreaves, who perished on K2 in 1995. Mother & son, two of the greatest climbers of all time, died at almost the same age, in the same mountain range, both doing what they loved best. They now lie forever encased in the ice of the Himalayas. Left behind to cope with the enduring tragedy are his sister, Kate, and their father, Jim. The Last Mountain is a heart-breaking yet uplifting...

‘Nice Shorts.’
Nick Boshier and Jazz Twemlow are leading the team of comedy writers/performers who will create Nice Shorts for Bunya Entertainment.
The online sketch comedy of 16 episodes, ranging from 3-10 minutes, will tap into national and international conversations to create videos for weekly release via social platforms.
Apart from Boshier and Twemlow the team includes Nazeem Hussain (Legally Brown), Greta Lee Jackson (Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am), Penny Greenhalgh (The Lost Tapes) and Bjorn Stewart.
The Bunya Group is not looking to monetize the low-budget online series, instead using it as the first opportunity to work with comedy creatives and as the first foray into comedy for the new banner Bunya Entertainment.
“Like the dramas we’re best known for, the quality of writing in Nice Shorts will be the hallmark of this show,” says Bunya Group CEO Sophia Zachariou.
Bunya Entertainment is developing seven narrative comedies including one with Adam Zwar.

Top (l-r) Sophie Hawkshaw, Zoe Terakes; Bottom (l-r) Rachel House, Marta Dusseldorp.
As a teenager Monica Zanetti searched in vain for gay rom-coms which she could watch with her mother, while Neil Armfield’s same-sex romantic drama Holding the Man was a major influence.
That has inspired the writer-director to make her feature directing debut on Ellie & Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt), which, unlike Armfield’s film has a happy ending.
Shooting in Sydney started today, starring Marta Dusseldorp, fellow Janet King alumni Julia Billington, Kiwi Rachel House, Zoe Terakes and newcomer Sophie Hawkshaw.
Zanetti adapted the screenplay from her eponymous play which was staged in 2017 at The Depot Theatre in Marrickville, her second feature credit after Jonnie Leahy’s 2014 drama Skip Deep.
Hawkshaw’s Ellie is 18 and struggling to find the courage to ask classmate Abbie (Terakes) to the formal. Luckily her aunt Tara (Billington), a lesbian who died in the 80s,...

ABC youth station Triple J and the station’s presenter Tom Ballard this afternoon issued an apology for his controversial joke about the holocaust he made during yesterday’s show.
The comment, made by breakfast presenter Tom Ballard, came during an on-air game to link two things together, Hitler and a wind-farm.
In a reference to gas chambers used in concentration camps, Ballard suggested “fan-forced ovens”.
After his joke caused offence, Ballard initially refused to apologise, saying on Twitter: “If you don’t like the show, just don’t listen.”
Ballard also compared the jokes to comedians such as Monty Python, John Cleese, Mel Brooks and Charlie Chaplin.
Both Triple J and Ballard this afternoon backed down.
Triple J issued a statement saying: “We recognise the concerns regarding the comments are serious. Triple J agrees the comments made were inappropriate. The matter has been followed up with the Breakfast team.

To Sydney’s Comedy Store and Ten’s storming showcase from the team on The Project.
And the loudest heckles came from an unlikely source – with The Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges having apparently warmed up early for the event. At one point – when Tom Ballard showed off his pasty white belly – Bridges yelled out “Shit!” loudly enough to make The Project regular and Triple J morning presenter wince.
But Dave Hughes probably had the most honest line of the night, telling the audience: ‘Thank fuck The Voice has finished.”
But Charlie Pickering had the biggest confession, telling the audience that his dark secret since the show began is that at the end of each episode, he says goodnight, turns to his script and draws “a cock and balls”. He volunteered that it now comes so naturally, that on occasion he does it while maintaining eye contact with the night’s guest.

We told you Friday that Zachary Quinto was returning for the second season of American Horror Story, joining Jessica Lange. At the Paley Fest round table it was announced that hottie Evan Peters, along with Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe would also return. All Ryan Murphy will say is they're playing characters who are the opposite of what they played before, which is a shame, because I found Tate all sorts of sexy, in an ax murderer sort of way.

I imagine his kids make him smile a great deal.
Oddly, when celebrities tweet about their kids it can be kind of endearing, which is completely unlike people you run into in the grocery store with their endless stories about their kid's little league games. And when it's an out and proud celebrity, it's really breathtaking in a way. Sean Maher talks about both the good and the bad with his kids, like the loss of sleep.
Decided to have a quadruple shot latte today-- one shot of espresso for each hour that my son was awake last night.

Morning Meme: Melissa McCarthy Is Divine, "Kadaffi Goes Hollywood," and Take a Trip to "Bear City 2"
Savage Garden's out Darren Hayes says "I don’t want to be a gay or a straight artist. I don’t make gay records - I make records. I don't want to feel like I have to be a poster child for anything other than being a great artist. I don’t take that on board as being my responsibility as a gay man, because I think it’s really limiting.” I do understand what he's saying, and he is out, and he's married. That satisfies the "visible" request from Rick Mercer yesterday, but somehow saying this seems counterproductive to kids who need to see someone like themselves.
FX has picked up Charlie Sheen's Anger Management sitcom for 10 episodes. But in a bold move, they're committed to a full 100 episodes if it hits a certain ratings target. Making a long-term commitment to Charlie Sheen's employability takes big brass ones.

Andrew Keenan-Bolger and costar Jeremy Jordan
Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we take a look at the goofy, the funny, the profound words that the pretty folks can squeeze into 140 characters or less.
Newsies has closed at the Papermill Theater without me getting a chance to go admire the abs on those poor, underappreciated paperboys in person. But it seems that I may have missed more than just abs at the very end, based on this tweet from the abtacular Andrew Keenan-Bolger, who played Crutchy.
Let's be honest, he looks good in anything.
I'm of the opinion that if more of us took time to mozy, as opposed to dashing from one thing to the next, the world might be a better place. Of course, I could just be trying to see more of hot guys like Dave Salmoni in cowboy hats. And chaps. Chaps would be a nice touch.

The Good Wife is upping the gay factor exponentially this season. Not only does it have Christine Baranski, who I dub an honorary gay man, bisexual Alan Cumming, and Alicia's gay brother Owen (Dallas Roberts), now they've given Owen a boyfriend played by Michael Arden. On top of all of that (not to mention Kalinda), Harvey Fierstein is joining the cast as a liberal judge to meddle in Alicia's cases.
As far as that news that Rep. Michele Bachmann would reinstate Don't Ask, Don't Tell? And we all wondered how that would work? Well, since Congress was sloppy with the repeal, it's really as easy as going back to old ban, pre-dadt, and can be done with an executive order, no law change needed. Of course, the military brass would probably counsel against the change, but I just don't see Bachmann listening to anyone.

At the Indiana State Fair, minutes prior to a Sugarland performance, the stage rigging collapsed in a wind gust, killing at least five people and injuring dozens. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those lost.
Breaking Bad is renewed for a final season of 16 episodes on A&E. It's likely that will bring it to a close in 2013, which should give me time to catch up from the beginning before the end.
Rep. Michele Bachmann again dodged questions about gay rights, denied previous audio footage and claimed she doesn't judge. She's terrifyingly impossible to knock off message. She doesn’t' answer the question that's asked, just what her talking points are. And I'm afraid most of the country doesn't notice.
Slightly more entertaining is this satiric piece about Governor Rick Perry who may be the true threat.

First off, I’d like to thank snicks for keeping the Memes up while I was slaving away in retail over the Black Friday holiday. I’m completely exhausted, but I’m going to try to dazzle you!
Also, so many of you have emailed, Facebooked, Pm’d and tweeted me birthday wishes, I couldn’t possibly thank you all individually, but please know I do appreciate it.
On to the news, such that it is on a holiday weekend. I’m not really sure that I appreciate the tone over at TV Guide where they are wondering why Glee has become “the St. Kurt show.” Seriously, we all endured a full season of that Puck/Finn/Quinn/Terri baby drama that had nothing to do with the glee club, and you want to whine about three Kurt episodes that are literally “ripped from the headlines?”

As soon as David Beckham’s contract runs out with Emporio Armani, he’s launching his own line of underwear. As long as he’s the model, I predict strong sales.
While Defense Secretary Gates says that he wants the lame duck Congress to move on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, the newly appointed Commandant of the Marine Corps (nice appointment, President Obama) says leave it in place. What actually happens probably depends on the other service chiefs.
Adam Carolla says he’s all for legalizing pot, but if anything ever happened to him, he’d prefer a straight couple raised his kids rather than a gay couple. I guess he learned nothing from years with Dr. Drew.
Hugh Jackman has turned down hosting the Oscars this year, saying he’s too busy prepping for the new Wolverine movie that starts shooting around that time.

Actor with great stage presence who found his metier in comic and satirical roles
There was something extra-terrestrial about the character actor Graham Crowden, who has died aged 87 – a mix of the ethereal eccentricity of Ralph Richardson and the Scottish lunacy and skewiff authoritarianism of Alastair Sim. He specialised in portraying doctors, lawyers or teachers in a satirical way.
Crowden was a tall, red-haired, serious and sometimes professionally diffident man – he turned down the opportunity of succeeding Jon Pertwee as the fourth Doctor Who, remarking that working with a lot of Daleks did not sound like much fun. He had a tremendous stage presence, always moving with an emphatic, loping gait.
Despite his eminence in plays at the Royal Court and the National Theatre, where he introduced roles in works by Nf Simpson and Tom Stoppard, and in films directed by Lindsay Anderson, he did not become widely familiar until...

It's family reunion time on How I Met Your Mother.
Here at Twitterwatch, we mostly focus on the celebrities. But some celebrities have so much personality that they need a second identity just to hold it all. That character then comes to life and gets a publicist and a Twitter account all their own. With the fall television season around the corner, those personalities are waking up, and that's where we'll start today before hitting Broadway, knights, and even some male models.
We knew that Neil Patrick Harris' How I Met Your Mother character was going to discover his father isn't Bob Barker this season. So it makes sense that his family would be part of that journey, including his gay brother James, played by Wayne Brady. Sounds like they've filmed at least part of the arc.
We know from our own Michael Jensen's experience at TCA that...

Some of you argued with me about Eric Balfour's body. We all win.
Here at Twitterwatch, one of our favorite things is to find patterns in what celebrities are talking about. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Strangely enough, this week, it seems to have worked. I kind of wish it hadn't. Things are going to get weird.
I've mentioned Eric Balfour's sexy man curves on other threads this week, and some of you have the nerve to disagree with me! So I put him on the front page for Twitterwatch, and right here to prove my point. He's actually gotten better with age when get to looking at pictures. So while what he just tweeted is true, that doesn't mean a little aging hurts.
But as folks age, they often think of plastic surgery. Evidently people in Los Angeles were thinking a lot about aging, at least...

Well, at least the balls aren't blue.
Here at Twitterwatch, we're big fans of everyone being equal. Well, equal in all the important ways - we obviously place our celebrities on a pedestal. So it's great to know that our favorite celebrities also care about our rights, like how they reacted to the Prop 8 ruling. And don't worry, we have other things too. We'll celebrate Prop 8 at the end, O.K.? Let's start with people on the move.
Matthew Mitcham is presumably still wandering around the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. I'm not sure if he's staying for Chrolli's September wedding or not, but he did pop in to bowl, or at least to pose for suggestive pictures with the equipment. I'm just impressed he made it over - he swore his boyfriend and his coach were certain he couldn't travel alone. He was confident he'd be all right as...

Plus gay gangsters fly commercial, Pixar consults on new Muppet film, and Derrick Martin tells his story.
One year ago today, our community lost a giant of literature, E. Lynn Harris. We are poorer for his passing.
According to the UK tabloid The Sun, we’re in for a new Spice Girls movie. It’s more like a Mamma Mia! Treatment, with their music being used to tell a story, much like the West End musical, Viva Forever. Brits – I have to ask: Is this in retaliation for Justin Bieber? Because you should really blame Canada for that.
When I was younger, being able to make my own glow sticks would have saved me some serious shopping before the weekend.

In a way it's comforting to know that it's not only Americans who will do anything to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Who knew pretending to be a bi guy was a way to get ahead. Broadwayworld.com caught up with Levi Kreis immediately after he won the Tony for Million Dollar Quartet. Levi chats about winning the big one for his Broadway debut, about playing Jerry Lee Lewis, and for those of you wondering who the guy was who he embraced after winning, it was his partner Jason. I've had my doubts about SyFy Channel for a while. First, they changed the name so dumb people would be able to spell it, then they added wrestling to the lineup.
