[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 11 “The Outsider.”] If you thought Gideon Ridge (James Frain) shook things up when he made his entrance at the end of Episode 10, that’s nothing compared to what happens in the latest Quantum Leap. Gideon is none too pleased with Ian (Mason Alexander Park) for using the quantum chip he made for them that helped them find Ben (Raymond Lee)—he was missing for three years, though no time passed for the leaper—without his knowledge and refusing to give it back. Someone has to go, and since Ian is the best shot at finding Ben, it can’t be them. Tom (Peter Gadiot), as the Department of Defense representative, tells Magic (Ernie Hudson) he has to fire Jenn (Nanrisa Lee). Instead, Magic decides to resign. “Once he found out the truth about what Ian had been up to, I think he realized that something had to be done,” ...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 11 “The Outsider.”
Fate. The main narrative thrust of the original and new Quantum Leap is changing fate. To put right what once went wrong. That doesn’t mean that Leapers like Sam (Scott Bakula) and Ben (Raymond Lee) can just change anything they want however. When Leapers are given their missions they’re often small, helping individual lives instead of making changes on a global scale. Why? Why can’t a Leaper, who’s supposed to make the world better, change bigger parts of the fate of history?
Season 2 episode 11 of the new Quantum Leap, “The Outsider” brings this question to the forefront. In the two previous episodes, Ben had learned current love interest Hannah’s husband was going to die of heart disease. In a full Back to the Future moment, Ben writes a letter to Hannah before that happens so she can prevent it.

Back in the present, Addison lets Tom (Peter Gadiot) know she found the engagement ring. She’d been trying to figure out if she should say something, but then she realized he’s the one who gets her unstuck when she’s stuck. He admits he had a plan, but emergencies kept popping up. Ben’s (Raymond Lee) days leaping around in time and into people could be numbered, if the lead that Tom (Peter Gadiot) found at the end of the last Quantum Leap episode goes anywhere. But is that something the team—namely Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who’s the one mostly interacting with him as his hologram—will clue him in on? “That’s always been a really fun thing about this, right?” Bassett tells TV Insider ahead of the NBC drama’s midseason return on January 30 (it moves to Tuesdays at 10/9c). “When to tell him things, how to tell him things. Could Ben actually return home? That’s the question many have been asking since Quantum Leap’s midseason finale on Dec. 13.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 8 “Nomad.”] Is Ben (Raymond Lee) finally going to be able to come home? There’s hope at the end of the latest episode of Quantum Leap. Just as Addison (Caitlin Bassett) thinks Tom (Peter Gadiot) is about to propose (she found a ring), he instead reveals that something was found on a fragment of a hard drive of the discontinued Darpa project: a way to bring Ben home. TV Insider spoke with those who star as the Quantum Leap project’s team members — Ernie Hudson (Magic), Mason Alexander Park (Ian), and Nanrisa Lee (Jenn) — to find out how they feel about that (can they trust it?) and more. Tom tells Addison that there may be a way to bring Ben home, but given that the team has been trying to figure out a way to do just that, and now, sure they like Tom, but this...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 7.
“His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear.”
This description, which accompanied the introduction of most episodes of the original Quantum Leap, firmly set in stone the in-show rules for a hologram from the future. There was only one person, Al (Dean Stockwell), who could help Sam (Scott Bakula). Very rarely did the original series change this and the same held true throughout much of season 1 of the new Quantum Leap series, with Addison (Caitlin Bassett) as hologram to Ben (Raymond Lee.)
Towards the end of the first season, however, the new show began to experiment with this long held paradigm. Without the constraints the original series had, that Al’s brain waves were linked to Sam’s and thus...

Ben (Raymond Lee) and Addison (Caitlin Bassett) likely aren’t going to be ready to work together again for a while on Quantum Leap. Season 2 began with Ben finding out that while for him, between jumps, no time passed, it had been three years for his team back home. As a result, the project was shut down. Everyone thought he was dead, and Addison moved on with Tom (Peter Gadiot), who is now also working with them at Quantum Leap. Things got rocky between Ben and Addison as she remained his hologram despite their personal tension — for a bit, at least. Now, the others, including Tom in the most recent episode, are stepping in to be the hologram. “What happened [prior to the latest episode] was really damaging in a way where I don’t know that Ben’s really unpacked it yet. And there’s no book on relationships that deals with this specific thing,...

“Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home.”
These are the words that ended the original Quantum Leap series. Sam (Scott Bakula), who’d been leaping from life to life, was informed in the final episode that he finally had control over his leaps. That he could leap home if he wanted to. The thought of this tempted Sam but instead he leapt back in time to help his longtime friend, Al (Dean Stockwell.) What happened to Sam after that has remained a mystery, with the final title card informing us Sam never got home being our only clue.
It’s an understatement to say that his devastated fans of the original series. Why would the story end on such a down note? Surely there must be some other way to interpret it. Maybe...

It takes some true dialogue-forging skill to drop tiny details into conversation without drawing a lot of attention only to become incredibly significant later on.
Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 2 is rife with finesse as it pilots Ben through a classic catastrophe-aversion leap while providing catch-up on the lives of the rest of the Ql team.
Moreover, it introduces Peter Gadiot's character, Tom Westfall, in a benevolently ambiguous manner. While his appearance bears little likeness to his recent One Piece character, I suspect Tom will be just as full of surprises.
It goes to show how well the show's creators shaped the characters and relationships throughout Quantum Leap Season 1 that bringing a new face onto the team immediately triggers the stranger danger alert in our head.
Nothing about Tom's behavior indicates he is anything but supportive and understanding, but he sets off all sorts of alarms.
Largely, it's the fact...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 2 “Ben & Teller.”] In the first season of Quantum Leap, Ben (Raymond Lee) and Addison (Caitlin Bassett) were kept apart by his jumps and the fact that he lost his memory. Now, in Season 2, the team knows he’s alive (after being missing and presumed dead for three years), but that doesn’t mean the (formerly engaged) couple can just pick up where they left off, even if he does remember everything now. Rather, as the second episode reveals, Addison’s now in a relationship with Tom Westfall (Peter Gadiot), a former special forces soldier and a high-ranking US Army Officer in the realm of Army Intelligence. They’d known each other for years, and she credits him with helping her remember what it is to be alive and happy again after thinking Ben was dead and the darkest two years of her life. “It was very...

The Quantum Leap project has been kept well under wraps ... until now.
NBC shared the official trailer for Quantum Leap Season 2 on Monday, and it teases Ben filling in someone about his time-traveling job.
In the new footage, Ben tells Hannah (played by The 100's Eliza Taylor) all about it.
As previously reported, Taylor is one of two new series regulars this season, so we're inclined to believe Ben and Hannah will be spending a lot of time together.
Peter Gadiot is the other new addition as US Army Officer Tom Westfall.
The exciting new footage teases leaps to Egypt in 1961, the Los Angeles Riots in 1992 Koreatown, a UFO investigation in 1949 New Mexico, witch trials in 1692 Massachusetts, and more.
If you watch Quantum Leap online, you know the leaps keep the show fresh because they offer new locations and time periods for the characters.

One of the best genre shows is adding cast members from two other genre greats.
According to Variety, Eliza Taylor (The 100) and Peter Gadiot are joining the cast of the NBC drama series.
Taylor will play Hannah Carson, "a complex young woman who may be more than she appears," and will be introduced on Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 3.
Gadiot will play U.S. Army Officer Tom Westfall, who is a former special forces and will oversee the next phase of the Quantum Leap project.

Quantum Leap is one of few TV shows returning in the fall as planned, thanks to NBC getting the show into production earlier due to the risk of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

There are a couple new characters coming in for Quantum Leap Season 2 whose descriptions leave us with questions. Peter Gadiot and Eliza Taylor have joined the NBC drama, which will return on Wednesday, October 4, as series regulars. Taylor’s Hannah Carson is said to be “a complex young woman who may be more than she appears”; we’ll meet her in the third episode. And Gadiot’s Tom Westfall is “a US Army Officer, former special forces, now high up in Army Intelligence.” He is “thoughtful, centered, a spiritual kind of warrior who both men and women admire, but whose humility keeps him from ever being arrogant” and “will take on a crucial role overseeing the project.” So now we have to wonder: What’s Hannah hiding? Will we meet her with Ben (Raymond Lee), last seen trying to find his way home, or with his team, aiming to get him back?...
