Michael Chamberlain was born on 27 February 1944 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was married to Ingrid Bergner and Lindy Chamberlain Creighton. He died on 9 January 2017 in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia.
In 1980, the Chamberlain family were on a camping trip at Uluru (Ayer's Rock), when their baby daughter Azaria was carried off by a dingo, a type of wild dog. Prosecutors believed that the couple had killed their daughter. Michael's then-wife Lindy was found guilty of murdering Azaria and sentenced to life in prison. Michael was convicted as an accessory after the fact. In 2012, the Northern Territory coroner finally ruled that Azaria had indeed been taken by a dingo.
