Cameron Douglas gives a deeply felt performance as a cynical cop who strong-arms a teen screwup into helping with a bust
A high-society princeling trying to drown inner demons with drugs by the bucketload: it could have been a role written specifically for Cameron Douglas, son of Michael. But, befitting his newly sober and reformed status, Douglas takes the paternal cop role in The Runner, while French-Finnish actor Edouard Philipponnat (soon to be seen in Ridley Scott’s Napoleon) is a teenage drug-dealing screwup; both give robust performances in this deeply felt but somewhat cumbersome thriller.
It plays a bit like Hamlet, if Hamlet was constantly bumping coke and hawking every substance going around. Gilded high-schooler Aiden (Philipponnat) is busted by the no-nonsense Detective Wall (Douglas), who releases him on the proviso he helps take down a local big-shot dealer. Aiden steers his partner Blake (Nadji Jeter) into inviting the...

This Quantum Leap review contains spoilers.
Quantum Leap Episode 7
Quantum Leap episode 7 “O Ye of Little Faith,” is the episode diehard fans have been waiting for in the sequel series. The original show carried with it specific sensibilities of good versus evil, God and the Devil, the power of the subconscious versus the rational mind and the separation of science and religious belief. These tropes popped up from time to time through all the original five seasons, but certainly the Halloween episodes and a good deal of season 5 drove full throttle into the seemingly unscientific questions of faith.
As Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) leaps into the body of Fr. James Davenport in 1934 on Halloween night, creepy children stroll the streets in Depression-era costumes. The bleakness of the period is highlighted exquisitely by the trick-or-treat scenery. Our modern fears of sending our kids out into the street–alone–in homemade...

The Bring It On franchise has been around since 2000, taking viewers into the world of cheerleading.
The seventh entry in the series, Bring It On: Cheer Or Die, is a complete overhaul, adding a slasher element that was not present in the prior installments.
Director Karen Lam wanted to switch things up for fans of the franchise.
"I think of this one as the Halloween special, the way a lot of franchise shows have a holiday-themed stand-alone," Lam tells TV Fanatic.
"It’s definitely in the horror category, but it’s a throwback to the fun horror from the 80s, and hopefully something that bridges the fans of Bring It On with horror fans who want a film that’s campy and lighter than really dark fare."
Lam says she considers it the “gateway drug” to horror for teen girls.

Plot: When a cheer squad practices their routines on Halloween weekend in an abandoned school, they are picked off one by one by an unknown killer.
Review: I’m not sure what I expected when it came to Bring it On: Cheer or Die, but I can at least say it lives up to the name. Because there is a metric crap ton of cheerleading, with just a sprinkle of death. And most of those deaths are so uneventful, that it essentially just feels like a high school theater project. And by the time you see the killer’s costume, it just further solidifies that idea.
Cheer or Die begins in the ancient year 2002 where we get to see a major cheerleading accident that leads to someone’s death. How did they die exactly? Falling 15 feet from the top of the pyramid down onto the padded platform below. She’s...

No, you’re not imagining things, I’m reviewing a film from the Bring It On franchise. Bring It On: Cheer or Die takes the never-ending series into horror territory and revisits the classic slasher trope of a killer mascot knocking off the cheer squad. That might not have gotten me curious, but it was a couple of the people involved behind the camera that convinced me to give it a look.
I was familiar with director Karen Lam from her short film Doll Parts which was included in the Shevenge anthology. And the script was co-written by Dana Schwartz (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) and Rebekah McKendry who directed one of the best films I’ve seen this year, Glorious as well as co-writing and co-directing the Christmas horror anthology,...

The 2000 hit Bring It On was turned into a franchise after doing well at the box office and earning a place among other iconic teen movies. Yet with five so-so sequels under its skirt, each one more or less performing the same routine as the original, it makes sense for the series to try something new. The latest Bring It On scores big points for stepping outside the box and attempting to reinvent itself, but this genre outing has a less than perfect dismount.
Bring It On: Cheer or Die (originally titled Bring It On: Halloween) marks a first in the franchise; the seventh installment is touted as a horror movie. And with slashers being popular again, it seems only natural for the cheerleaders at Elk Moore High to be the targets of a depraved and disguised killer. Before any actual slashing takes place, though, the story opens with a flashback.

'Brr, it's cold in here. There must be a killer in the atmosphere. Bring It On is back, and this time, the beloved cheerleading franchise is taking a stab at the slasher genre. Titled Bring It On: Cheer or Die, the seventh installment coming to Syfy this October is a horror flick that follows team co-captains Abby (Kerri Medders) and McKayla (Tiera Skovbye) and their Diablos teammates as they prepare for the upcoming regional cheer competition. The squad has a problem, though—they're forbidden from doing any risky cheer stunts by their overly cautious school principal (Missi Pyle). So, the squad decides to choreograph a winning routine in secret at a nearby...

ABC likes to have a sudsy primetime soap on its midseason roster, and Promised Land looks like a winner.
In the past, we've had one-and-done but highly watchable shows like Grand Hotel and The Baker and the Beauty, so we're hoping Promised Land stands the test of time.
The series is an epic, generation-spanning drama about two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.
The first trailer dropped at the network's panel during the Winter TCA tour, and there was another big announcement regarding the series:
The first two episodes will be available on Hulu the day after the series premiere on ABC, marking the first time ABC programming will be released on Hulu before debuting on the network.
The series premieres Monday, Jan. 24 (10:01-11:00 p.m. Est), on ABC, out of The Bachelor.
Will Promised Land and The Bachelor be a match made in TV heaven?...

“Jane,” a feature film from startup studio Creator Plus, has halted production after two Covid cases on set in New Mexico.
The film stars Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”), who is also a producer. None of the cast has tested positive, according to the company. The shutdown is expected to last for six days.
In a statement, Creator Plus said that the cases were detected “while adhering to strict safety daily testing protocols.”
“As a result, we immediately implemented a six-day shutdown, which started yesterday (as a half day) from the initial case we received,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday. “All lead actors are continuing to test negative despite exposure. We’re working closely with our SAG representatives, the CDC and the All Together New Mexico ‘Covid Safe Practices for Individuals and Employers’ while upholding SAG’s Return to Work agreement.”
Sabrina Jaglom is directing the film, which marks her feature debut.

When Olivia gets deferred from her dream college, she begins to spiral and experiences a series of increasingly frightening panic attacks. In an attempt to regain some sense of control, she embarks on a social media-fueled rampage against those that stand in the way of her success. At last May’s Upfronts, I suggested to CBS’ entertainment chief that Seal Team‘s Season 2 renewal must have been a close call, given, as I put it, the freshman drama’s “disappointing” ratings.
The premise of my question was refuted — Seal Team at the time did rank No. 3 in the demo among all CBS dramas, though it was ninth in the network’s famously and frequently touted measure of total viewership. But to this day, more than midway through Season 2, I maintain that this show should be doing better. And I remain puzzled as to why it isn’t.
